I have been wanting to add this game to my collection for some time now, but I never did pick it up when it regularly sold for $35-$40 for the case, manual, sleeve, and game (2009 or so). As ebay seems to be the only outlet, all of the prices seem to be ranged about $135 or so now. I did not think this game was uncommon, more along the rarity of Blazing Lasers. What has happened?
I read every review I can about a game before purchase and Super Star Soldier was never mentioned in the same class as Air Zonk, Raiden, Blazing Lasers, R-Type, or the other AAA shooters in the TG16 USA library.
As far as getting the Soldier games, Soldier Blade has always been tough to find affordably (sub $100). Do most USA TG-16 collectors that want to experience the Soldier games import the PSP collection from Japan?

That's because it's in a higher class, all on it's own :D

Yea its a pretty rough time to be into buying for TG16/PCE. Some of the prices are just unbelievable, and a real shame since it puts the titles into collector only people who may never even play the game. What a waste .
-
At these prices, I may be forced to do that!
I just do not understand why this game has soared to such heights when other shooters are a lot more reasonable. Blazing Lasers, for example, is a few dollars higher than it was years ago and that is fine. But a $100 jump for Super Star Soldier?
-
Sometimes you can get lucky and find games for more reasonable prices in the wild. I purchased superstar soldier cib in mint condition 1 wk ago at a local video game store. Some might say even that was too expensive, however, judging by today's prices it was a good deal.
-
I can say for certain that I've largely gone through all the stores around here (in several cities). I plan to make a game run later today, maybe I'll get lucky? The supply of things has completely dried up and it is sad time to try and get a few more games to play. At least I found a copy of Vigilante recently :D

True. Within the past 9 months prices have risen considerably on TG hardware and software. The PCE Duos are starting to inflate to Turbo Duo proportions. Its madness!
-
TG-16 Super Star Soldier, why so expensive?
because life sucks!
-
pce version is cheap $25-30 and has way better art and manual
-
What I don't understand is how this hyped up inflation bypassed the genesis. NES and especially SNES prices are inflated.... The Turbo has just gotten rediculous... But the Genesis games are still pretty reasonable. Especially if you buy them in lots.

. Better art goes without saying! Lol

I can't believe what it's going for.

Yeah that's an outlier. I guess you need to look at the ratio of Inflated games to total games in the library.
The turbo and AES would prob be at the top of that list.
-
Dang and this is not just limited to ebay with Super Star Soldier, if my forum searches are good, it rarely turns up for sale here. Maybe I was wrong about the rarity, and it is just really in demand???? I should have picked it up years ago ](*,)
OT: Followed by Crusader of Centy and Grindstormer. Waves from: Vapor Trail, Trouble Shooter, TMNT, Castlevania Bloodlines, The Punisher, Splatterhouse 2 & 3, and a few others. And the Power Base Converter, what's going on with that...it's $100 now? The 32x and Sega CD have a few expensive ones too.

Flash card and CDRs is the solution. If you cannot keep yourself in check and resist collectarditis, those two will let you game on.
-
Just go for the pc-e version. I believe it also has an intro that isn't in the US version.
-
So wait... someone else asks about why a game is so expensive and gets no horseshit?....

This

It's sad that its having to come to this. I still like owning the original games because I value them more and am prone to actually play them more.
I still have the turbo everdrive but mainly for imports as I have all the US games minus Magical Chase.
I have been tempted to go the CDr route but I’d rather own the games, although I do like the CDr route to try a game before I drop some $$$ in case I do not like it.
There’s something about owning & playing the originals that keeps me collecting.
Plus I really wanted allot of these games as a kid but had no way to purchase them at the time.
Surely but slowly I’ll grow my TG CD collection and maybe even find a Magical Chase copy in the wild.

A Super Star Soldier was raffled here recently

Yes, there is but you do not see me collecting shit I cannot afford (Lamborghinis, real estate, US boxed Turbo games). Bitching about gouger and inflated prices does not get me more obey. Maybe we all get fancy, well paying jobs and we a can drop bank on originals.
PS: as a alternative, I've been buying cheap shit that entertains me: X-serd, Daisenryaku, Bari Bari, Mine Sweeper. Might not be the OMG-Must-own-noob games, but my ratio for price-to-entertainment is far better
-
dont get me wrong, i love the originals too, and really like buying them and playing them, but i must realize i dont want to invest so much into my entertainment, because beer and cars are my real entertainment.

I hear you.
Sadly, I bought lots of cheap stuff years ago...when I should have spent it on "more desirable" titles that I was too cheap to get.
Oh well.
At least I have managed to squeeze a lot of fun from the unlikeliest of places...

I was going to say that the best part is that's free... but my tissue expense must be in the millions by now.

Truth, I was really shocked at how much better the Japanese HuCard looks compared to the plain US version after seeing it recently...

Compare to the plain US version where they just went mostly cheap, white.
