Title: Hello!
Post by: Goose196 on June 19, 2014, 07:03:50 AM
Good morning everyone,

I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself to the community.  My name is Gary and I'm very new to the Turbo scene.  I've been collecting mostly Nintendo for the past couple years and after building back up my childhood collection (thanks mostly to Nintendoage) I've decided to look at what else might be out there.  Since NEO Geo is pretty much out of the question for now I thought the turbo looked really interesting, especially since 16 bit is my favorite generation of system.  Thanks to Bernie I have an awesome Turbo/CD set up coming my way and now I'm looking to start building up my library of games.  I'd be interested in hearing suggestions from the community on what games I should look to start out with.  I'm mostly interested in shooters and platformers (Bonks, Darkwing Duck, Blazing Lazers, Fighting Street) are some that are definitely on the list so please feel free to contact me if you know of any that are currently for sale.  I'm also open to suggestions as I'm essentially starting from scratch.  I look forward to contributing to the community in a positive way and I appreciate any feedback/information provided.  Take care!

Welcome to Pcenginefx!

If GOOD platformers are what you're interested in, then Darkwing Duck may not fit the bill.   :-"

I do have a copy of Fighting Street up for trade/sell in my trade/sell thread.  You're welcome to take a look.

I am a new member here too, welcome.

I would urge you to purchase Ninja Spirit.  It is a game that is on the same level of excellence as Ninja Gaiden (since you said you liked the NES) and Sega's Shinobi series.

I think you should also get Keith Courage, really just to have it as an introduction to the Turbo.  Go in with expectations low and you should have a great time.  It is a lot better than it's reputation, it is the most inexpensive game for the Turbografx, and it is what everyone got as a pack-in circa 1989 that introduced us to the system.

R-Type is a great shooter on the TG-16 along with Raiden for the more common titles.  Air Zonk, Soldier Blade, and some of the other releases can start to really break the bank (but are worth it).  Blazing Lazers is a great choice for your first shooter on the system.  It was made by Compile who also made Zannac on the NES.

I really like New Adventure Island per platformers, which is an update from the same named NES series.  Dragon's Curse is well worth playing if you do not own the Sega Master System version.

I get a lot of wear out of Military Madness as a strategy game.  The first CD game you should find is the 3-in-1 CD with Bonk 1, Bonk 2, Gate of Thunder, and Bomberman if you have the 3.0 system card.  If not...I am not sure if any of that will run on a 2.0 system card.  Senior members can probably help with that question, but it would present a way to save a lot of money and get some excellent games.  A mandatory purchase for the CD unit is the Ys (I & II) disc, which will run on any system card.

EDIT:  Dang typos, they are always tripping me up.

Fixed, and it does indeed require a Super System Card.

Thanks for the typo fix, and the information.  I'm always getting the two 'Thunder titles mixed up.

If you venture into other genres here are a couple of my favorites.

For Action RPG's I found both Neutopia  games to be awesome.

If you like the Contra series or Mercs on Genesis my favorite run and guns are Bloody Wolf and Last Alert (are there even any other run and guns on this console?). Bloody Wolf is good but I thought Last Alert was great, cheesy/horrible voice acting and all.

Thank you to everyone for the warm welcome and all of the suggestions.  I've been looking all over youtube today at lists ranking the best turbo games and I'm excited to get started building my collection.  I've kinda run into that wall with my other systems that there isn't a lot out there I'm anxious to pick up.

I'm excited to continue learning about the console and exploring all of the things this community has to offer.
