My latch has been broken for 20 years...
If someone told me 20 years ago that I would be getting a new latch "printed" for my Turbo CD carrying case, I would have been like "What'chu talkin' 'bout, Willis?"
-
I have a total of 24 latches. Eight of them are spoken for so if anyone is interested in a pair (or a single) they are $20 shipped for a pair and $14 shipped for a single. Shipping outside of the US will be a bit more so PM me for a quote. Here is what they look like finished:

That's nice work. 3D printers are a pretty cool, relatively recent, technology.
Someone mentioned above, years ago not expecting this. I can say the same, since years ago this would have involved more work; A mold, etc.
-
Awesome work!!! Cant wait!

PM sent!

The process you use to dye the latches... would it work on, oh, i dunno... let's say, the hideous white DUO TAP or PC Engine Taps?
It should. I used the same dye on my center console in my car and has lasted for years and years.
-
The latches are dyed and after they cure for a couple of days I will start shipping.

That's some nice looking work. Any chance of making duo hu-card lids next?

Someone is sending me a duo hu-card lid so I can model it. I'm going to try and color match it while I have it also.
-
How about a replacement hu case update? Please!!! :P

I recall a Scooby Doo episode where the hidden treasure was a vast sum of Confederate Dollars. I think Jonathan Winters was in it, too.
Awesome episode.

Those are really nice. I would also really love a TurboDuo hucard slot cover.

I have a Duo card cover on it's way to model. I'll make another thread when I start work on it.

Nice! Regular Duo and R/RX?!
-
This is awesome! I have no use for this but it's great that you can do this to help others. A couple years back I had an issue with my original Duo hu-card lid and I was able to trade with someone (here, I believe) to get a replacement. Now, it might be harder to get one. It's cool that you are working on those next.
I've also been working on my 3D modeling skills, so outta curiosity, what software are you using? And which 3D printer? One day I would like to be able to make custom board game pieces for mockup designs doing something like this.
-
Still have some? :) This is awesome! I've been "one-tabbing" it for years. If you have some still, and please say yes as this old man's heart may fail if not, I'm gonna send you multiple hugs in the mail.

I use Solidworks and I have them printed by Shapeways so I'm not sure what they print with but I think it's a stratasys machine.

They can be a bit tricky to pop on until you see the trick. Glad they worked out for you.

I used to use Solidworks2005 at my last job... Pretty slick software!

What be this trick you speak of?

Sweet! If only I had a case or a Duo.

You kinda have to get both sides started in at the same time. If you pop one side of the latch in first I don't think you can get the other side in at all.
-
Got my latch today. It's a little resistant to lock/unlock, but works fine. Thank you so much!

I had one that was like that but it loosened up a bit after I worked a few times. If it's an issue I can send you another.
-
It also appears that these latches will work on the PC Engine suitcase cover also. They just would not be the correct color.

No, thank you, but it's fine. The action is a little rough (the lock doesn't automatically snap shut), but the latch is more secure than the original on the other side of my case. The original allows too much wiggle room and a tiny crack to open when the case stands vertically, while your replacement keeps a tight seal. Neither is perfect, but I prefer yours.

Did you case look like this:

Or like this:

If it was like the second pic then the "spring" that keeps the latch pushed out is broken off of your case.
-
Nice work, latches look great!
I test fitted original PC Engine latches on my Turbografx CD case before and they are interchangeable.
Have you attempted any fix or repair for the plastic "spring" behind the latch? On my case, one is broken off and the other is weak and doesn't put any tension on the latch.

I'm sure that I could come up with something that could be incorporated in the latch itself.
