Hi, sorry for flooding this forum with posts recently. I was talking to my Japanese coworkers about the pc engine, and they started having a nostalgic trip. We were about gradius and salamander, they still remember to this day the layout of levels, as if they played it last night.
Anyway, they both start talking about a shooting game, Z cross, but i can't find it online. please help me.

For PC Engine: Nexzr, Azadick, Xevious?
Misc: Section Z?
Did they describe the game at all?
-
yes, its a vertical shooter, you can drop mini bombs on land like twin bee, and its a serious shooter. you pilot a military plane. the more they think about it, the less they are sure its on pc engine

he said it was a vertical shooter ... hmmm ill show him
-
doesn't fit on PCE kinda. Toliet Kids? haha
-
it would be awesome that they played that game hahaha. Im still on the fence for toilet kids. 33$ seems a bit steep if its just for the shits and giggles... is that a decent shooter even?
-
Shits and giggles... I see what you did there...
-
It might be Cyber Core.
-
Sounds a lot like Xevious...
if not that, Exed Exes?
Or else they're talking about the modern Android game, Z Cross?

ill check with them tomorrow. they said natsukashii, which means nostalgic, so i would be surprised that they are nostalgic about an Android game. the name is the same though... thats weird. anyway guys, thanks for your help, i guess well never find out haha.
-
for them every game that is older than like 5 yo is already natsukashii..lol.
-
thats the kids. they say natsukashii to smash bros wii....
-
I hear peeps browsing through like PS2 games at a HO or BO saying it all the time..lol
-
Hahaha. well Ps2 is in the gray zone i guess. If they are refering to the early ps2 games, its only one /two years oldrr than some dreamcast games, and i'm nostalgic of dreamcast era. i remember my first time playing shenmue. and i live in a shenmue kind of city now so its natsukashii

Answer: God Panic.

I finally found the name of the game, its not even on the pc engine. The games name is Zanac X. Japanese like to chunk words, so Zanac X, became Z-cross. (they call street fighter ii "Suto Two", pocket monster "pokemon", Monster Hunter "mohon", Puzzle dragon "Puzzdra", Dragon Quest "Draque", and the list goes on.
Thank you guys for helping me! I appreciate

They counfound PS1 with Pc Engine... quite nice :D
-
Yeah, Zanac x Zanac is on the Playstation...
-
2 of the first cd base consoles, they both start with a "P" hahah
I think he was refering to Zanac on the NeS, but he must have played Zanac X later and that name stuck in his head.
Because he recognized the Nes screenshot. By nes i mean famicom ;)
-
Well, Famicom & NES Zanac are included (emulated) on the PSX release of Zanac x Zanac, so...
-
well the PCE was by a far the first CD-ROM based console of the two (in fact it was the first cd-rom based game related device at all). then we also had stuff like Marty, Amiga CD32, CD-TV etc. before sony was even considering to bring out anything like a cd-based console.
-
Tatsujin, you do understand that for kids playing video games in the 80s - 90s in Japan, those consoles that you mentionned aren't known by most. those weren't maintream, didn't get any public here. So for my coworkers and I, Pc engine was the first, and then Saturn/Psone (The megadrive wasn't a big thing in Japan, therefore most of my friends are unaware of the Mega cd. They always ask me questions when they see my sega timeline shirt)
Anyway, point is, they were confused on the name of the game, it happens, I asked for your help, some guided me in the right direction.
-
sure thing :) only wanted to point out, that the PCE did the CD thing much earlier than the PS and SS did.
