I guess I will say it before somebody else does. A little friendly advice would to hang out for a bit, get to know people, and possibly contribute to the community before you begin asking for assistance with purchases. Welcome!

I do plan on that and have already been reading through some of the threads.
But considering it took a few weeks for my membership to get approved I figured I would go ahead and throw up a Buy/Trade thread for myself.

LoL Thanks that's exactly what I meant to say. Don't know how it changed during the post :P
(How am I suppose to follow his advice when he commented in the thread he told me to not make anyways lol. What a conundrum)

Long story short, I have hundreds of posts on other sites related to gaming and retro gaming including NA which I have a good trade reputation on.
While I plan on being a part of the community I would like to also try and build up my TG collection while I have a chance before things skyrocket as they seem to be atm.

That being said yes I did make a WTB thread right away, and while it may turn away some people on the site, this is a site for collecting and appreciating TG, which is why I joined, and I believe most will understand where I am coming from.
I was told by people I know who are members here it was a great community of people who love the TG and know their shit lol.

I found it humorous that mister "Leave-me-alone!-I'm-not-affecting-you!-I'm-not-breaking-the-rules!" was the first to butt in and school someone on forum etiquette.  Classic.

its not really a "collecting" forum.  if you just take a little time to read and post in other threads, people will eventually make deals with you.  you got to be genuine about it. not just a generic "here i am, heres what im looking for" then sit back and wait for PMs.  this shit is scarce enough.  peeps here dont just have piles to off load for folks we dont know.  And it doesnt exactly help your credibility that you are only looking for crap to help "complete" your games.  it already smells like you wont be around for long and just joined because you hoped this was some secret goldmine you happen to find.  most forums arent as tight as this one, people here actually know each other for the most part.  also, referencing NA wont help your cause at all.

I take it you see all retro gaming as a collectible hobby?

Perhaps game enthusiast forums are the minority now, but this one is based on celebrating the games and history and it is very obvious if you take any time to look around.

The best place to get your own box like that is to go to 1990 and get one.  There are tons of them there, all in perfect condition.

To think .. I had everything in that picture. With exception of Turbo Stick and only have about half of those games.  I still envy that guy that walked into my garage sale and picked up minty CIB lot.  If only I knew then, what I know now.  And it was all to raise money to build myself a PC.  But was a necessity of the time. Always selling the older system, to buy what was next. Now I find myself keeping boxes and inserts for everything gaming or electronic. It drives my wife nuts, and my 7 year old daughter is turning into a solid gamer, and collector also.

Man this picture brings back memories. I had every piece of hardware in that pic when it was released back in the day and several of the games too. I remember picking up the Turbo CD from Toys R Us, had to ask my mom to user her Mini van since the box was so huge, lol.

Fire up the wayback machine Mr. Peabody, We need some minty turbo stuff like we used to have. I too remember having all the boxes ect. ect. I never kept them because back then no one knew the box alone would be worth a Zillion dollars. I was more worried about getting the unit, games, controllers out of the box to try them out. Even today I don't keep a hold of stuff (shrugs) probably should but I'm not that guy, my big pay out for the games and systems is enjoying them, but thats me :-)

It's a collecting and collectors forum. Almost everyone here has fetishes for CIB, CIC, random boxes, plastic sleeves, manuals and cases, obsession to complete the 94 titles, obsession to complete 94 titles plus all the cd titles, obsession for PCE games and dreams of having them all, storage cases for systems, having multiple NEC systems, having doubles and multiples of same thing, the list is endless.

It's primarily a collectors forum. Also a hoarding forum as well.

they did the same to me. I came here, introduced myself, even to the detail of where I'm from, who I am and what I like to do and they still tried to get rid of me. They are doing the same to you and they same thing to the OP. It looks like this forum is a group of 20 trolls that troll the crap out of anyone new. The best thing to do against them is to participate in all the thread, but don't curse and stay on topic. When they post a troll message after yer decent posts, just don't answer it.

How many good folk are we scaring off by using this tactic?

a lot. That's why most of the Turbo community is on ebay and behind the scenes. Only the 20 something of you on this community that all know each other and have your little circle of trust.

The real Turbo community is global, it's not limited to this forum only.

Well stated. I have thought the hate and aggression level towards new members is quite high on here, even if there has been past douche baggery afoot. No reason we can't give new folks the benefit of the doubt. We're all collectors here and if one is willing to compensate fairly in a deal, I don't see the point to berate them just cause they are new to this forum. Mechanics are already in place (i.e. minimum post counts in raffles, the ability to quote prices for your own expendable items, etc.) to protect the members here. Why the elitism that goes with it?

Do all that and as a new member your time spent here won't be so distasteful. There is a wealth of great information on this forum, unfortunately you have to register to view it. I bet if everyone was able to view all the info, then there would be no need for people to register.

It's not a matter of thin-skinned or not. I'm just saying there are two ways to get new members that are here for the forum as much as they are here for the collecting. You can expect them to know the etiquette of the forum before they join as is the system currently in place here or we can all treat each other better.

I joined a forum (almostsmart.com) years ago before P2P download programs solely because they had MP3s uploaded on the forum. I then stuck around for years (well beyond my need for their MP3s) because the conversations were stimulating. They were welcoming to their new members regardless of their motivations for joining.

I'm just saying that if the regulars on this forum actually want lasting new members, there are better ways to cultivate them than the current practice in place.

This is my first time on this forum. I am not here to start anything. I was instigated into some of my posting. Now that I have learned my lesson on how the regulars here act I will adjust to them. Once again I'm not here to start anything. I have a good collection of Turbo stuff and could even post pictures as proof if needed. Thank you for wishing me luck. I hope it's not gonna be so bad that I will need luck. I can always ignore the people who are here to hate me.

Also a suggestion on raffles and sales. I think you should limit them to people who have been here for lets say 5 years or more. That way you can prevent yourselves from paranoia of some past troubled members coming back and taking advantage of the great deals. Me personally I am not here to participate in raffles or any sales. I do well money wise and have almost everything I need as far as video gaming world goes. Not here to take advantage of anything or anyone. So hopefully that clears up everything.

I'm new here as well and I agree that it would have been helpful to be able to browse this forum before my account was approved. When my account was approved though, I quickly learned that this forum is about appreciating NEC/TG/PCE and not about going from 5 games to 75 games.

I've been on forums before where a member's first post is a "WTB: This or that expensive game."  I do want to pick up some games from other members here but I want to learn as much as I can about the systems and its games before I think about that. I don't think I ever saw a TG-16 growing up where I did. Always thought the attitude I saw in commercials and ads was cool. That's why I came here. (I did enter a raffle though, so don't hate.)

Registering is mandatory, posting is optional ! Why does it matter that you have to register to view.  You can do that then remain silent and consume all the great information that's in this forum. What you are saying is "you have the right to remain silent, you just lack the ability."

Now, I'm just busting your balls alittle.

This forum is not about amassing large numbers of members. Yeah, this forum is kind of elitist, but that's one of its strengths. If you don't have the skin for a place that vets everyone from the very beginning, then perhaps this isn't the place for you. If you're passionate about the PCE, no amount of vetting should scare you away. It's a filter to see who's got passion and who's just here for buddy deals and/or fly-by-night scams.

Oh... and no Nazis or child porn collectors allowed either. Yeah... we've had both here.

When you have people signing up here making threads trying to sell their Nazi Turbobwares you tend to get thick skin very fast.

Every new member goes through a hazing ritual.  If you can take the little bit of heat thrown at you and you manage to get off of your high douchebag of a shelf without too much shaming you'll pull through fine here as a regular member.  If all you see is a flame war coming at you and you start loading your rifle to return fire you won't last very long here.

I appreciate the strict regime here.  It keeps the racist f*cks out.

There was a guy here who was a Nazi who tried selling stuff. I bought one of the things he sold before it was known that he was a white supremacist. After he was outed, he was ostracized to hell and has never come back. That's the kind of shit we don't need around here.

I don't understand how hate based on race persists. :/

Yeah .. I hate you because of one of the few things you had absolutely no say in !  I just can't understand it.

I'm a Caucasian guy, and married a Chinese woman. We are both Canadian born. Our daughter is of course mixed race.  I love that she's in such a diverse school system .. where hopefully this mentality can finally disappear, or be squashed by the majority if it every does pop up.

You have nothing to worry aboot here.

There was a guy here who was a Nazi who tried selling stuff. I bought one of the things he sold before it was known that he was a white supremacist. After he was outed, he was ostracized to hell and has never come back. That's the kind of shit we don't need around here.
Don't feel bad.  I almost bought one too.  I cancelled my order luckily.

^ all great points! thick skin, roll with it, stay on topic of threads, don't flame or curse and last but not least, ignore all negative posts from the "regular" members here because they do that to test and provoke you into trolling.

Do all that and as a new member your time spent here won't be so distasteful.

oh and how about f*ck you all!!!!!! go f*ck yourselves!!! and your mothers!!!!

I see u got mod involved to remove a standard member.

How about a f*ck YOU!!!! I will remove my account myself! Losers!!!! u didn't remove me!!! Go roT in hell in your Pathetic forum!!!! I hope u choke to death!!!!

Yeah, thank you for reminding the psycho of his past! Lest somebody actually take his Psycho Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde routine seriously!

I PM'ed him a polite, but perhaps curt message to lighten up, understand nullity's sarcasm a bit better, and the nutjob responded with a death wish, OBVIOUSLY I provoked it and his quick temper had to give way... Now he's in here trying to play up the victimhood mentality and cry cry about treatment of new hecklers, err, members, the same damn mantra we see here for years, etc.

Repost/Recap:
I will contact police to check this forum out. You are all dangerous and troubled losers.

So now you will finally remove your account ? kthxbye!

oh and how about f--k you all!!!!!! go f--k yourselves!!! and your mothers!!!!

and
To NightWolve: I hope u die soon mate. very soon.

Psycho "Tommy" creeping back into "normal" posting activity pretending none of all of the above just happened...

Look, this guy is beyond contradictory, dishonest, hypocritical, and already burned his bridges, etc. He's psycho! Claims we're HORRIBLE people, threatens to leave in protest, doesn't, threatens to "report us to the police," doesn't, claims wmac is a REAL member (conversely, we're "fakes"), wmac, the guy that made clear he's just a business account here to make money off of us and avoid eBay fees, treat a discussion gaming forum as an extension of eBay, etc.  He's got the psycho aggressive reseller defender bug up his butt to boot, the same way DarkKobold introduced himself to us. I've seen how the Turbo Gouging thread gets resellers REALLY butthurt firsthand from a chatroom way back.

We're no-life losers, just horrible, horrible people, it's a rotten, pathetic forum, but he STILL wants to hang around here, at least, that appears to be the case since he reversed himself in defiance... Seriously, GTFO already - stand by your words! You don't deserve any sort of sympathy after all your nonsense, psycho! YOU brought a bunch of YOUR OWN HATE, you psycho death-wishing hypocrite! Another theme of yours, "I'm not the hater, YOU YOU YOU ARE!" It's just retarded getting lectured by this nutjob.

This is my first time on this forum. I am not here to start anything. I was instigated into some of my posting. Now that I have learned my lesson on how the regulars here act I will adjust to them. Once again I'm not here to start anything.

Are you kidding? Your a troll, even on my Keith courage box I made for the community you had to troll that as well, and everyone there agreed, I don't trust you and you are not who you say you are. I will never deal with you.

I didn't see that actually. So he's a freeloader that demands printed material to made and shipped for free, otherwise you're an evil profiteer... He "exposed you..." God, what a f--ktard... He's obsessed with proving wrong the criticism of what eBay has done to prices, resellers, the collectard effect and has to drag it in to other threads to see if he can make a cheap troll point stick. Still trying to act like he's a totally new member and hasn't had a long standing level of butthurt when it's clear his psycho grudge with us goes way back...

I'm not even sure about the Nintega Nemesis situation here now, but his psycho grudge has to go way back, this past week or so can't alone be responsible for what the guy did here in that time! Not with that level of butthurt!

To the peeps whining about 'hazing' and being mean to all new guys: get f*cked.  The only guys that get shit on are people that are seemingly here solely to build up collections and have zero interest in actually discussing games.  This guy definitely fit that description, seeing as he wanted all teh rarez mint, complete, and in box.

Besides, I think y'all need to re-read the first page.  Besides me calling him a collectard, which he undoubtedly is, there's nothing even remotely hostile or particularly insulting directed at the OP.

Word.
We have had a stampede of new members coming in here the past couple months.  A lot of new members have had no problems.  Some have even helped out with group buys (thanks jtucci31) and other things.  There is no hazing here.  If you've been "talked to" there was more than likely something not right with what you were doing.  So many new members the last year are still here and have no issues.  Some even eventually come over to http://pcengine.freeforums.org (http://pcengine.freeforums.org/) for chat.  Everyone is more than welcome.

I have a personal one at work that will do 12 x 12 x 18.  It's not good enough for this kind of stuff though.  I could do one at shapeways but it would be very expensive.  If someone has a shell that I could borrow I will model it and find out.
