Title: XS to publish Raiden III
Post by: TR0N on June 09, 2006, 09:42:05 PM
If you any of you didn't get a chance to import it for the PS2.

The good news is, XS is gonna publish it for the U.S  :D

Only thing i'm worry about is if... XS renames, Raiden III as Mobile Light Force

Yeah, I've been looking forward to a US release of Raiden III for several weeks now. I plan on buying it once it hits the shelves.

I'm only worried that XS might not include a tate mode.

The tate mode rotates the the screen 90 degrees, so in order play in tate mode you have to place your TV/monitor on its left side. This is much better for playing top-down shooters (DoDonPachi, Battle Garrega, Raiden) because the screen is now taller than wide and there are no black boarders since the entire screen is filled.

The opposite to tate is yoko mode (horizontal). Obviously games like Gradius and R-Type don't require tate mode.

Afaik, there are no tate modes in any of the PCE games that I have come across. You'll definetely find tate mode more commonly in japanese PS1, PS2, Saturn, Dreamcast games. American games...hardly, alot of the shmups that were brought to the U.S. had the tate mode removed.

Keranu, weren't you around when "Nash" was at the old Turbo board(s)? Man, I must be mixing you up with someone else! He was obsessed with shooters and TATE modes and he even wrote up some great articles...

:) Seriously, who am I confusing you with?

As for Raiden III... I don't think I've ever played this. I've played nearly all the Raiden games, though I don't recall ever seeing this in the arcade.

XS did a perfectly fine job with Castle Shikigami 2, with the exception of the voice acting. I think they learned their lesson after getting some backlash from Mobile Light Force. I'm looking forward to Raiden III.

I just wish there was a company -- and maybe XS could be this company, but if so they would really need to step it up -- that would just release shmups on the current systems. DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou, XII Stag, Rajirugi -- there are plenty of them. Don't bother dubbing any voice, just translate the text, put 'em out at 20 or 30 bucks, and watch the danmaku fans eat 'em up.

I remember when Working Designs created their Spaz label for the same purpose, and put out like one or two games and then dropped it. At least we got Thunderforce V and RayStorm out of it.

Thanks for filling me in, Rolins. I know exactly what you are talking about now and I have done it in a few shooters before, like Ikaruga. I didn't know it had a special name like tate. :)

Please fill me in on who Nash is again, I can't remember what his current name is. Is Nash our beloved rob guy? I have heard the name Nash so many times from our old Turbo Board chats, but I can never remember who he is.

Don't know who you are confusing me with except me. :)
