Title: Forgottn Worlds
Post by: JesseZamora on September 01, 2001, 04:10:00 PM
I ordered FOrgotton Worlds from (http://www.tzd.com/)www.tzd.com (http://www.tzd.com/) a few days back, knowing a Capcom game would kick ass on teh TurboDuo.  I figure it's action, but what is it exactly?  A side-scroller?  A one-on-one fighter, like Fighting Street?  Hopefully not one of those Stree Fighter 2010-esque platformers.... Ah well.  Also, what other games did Capcom release in the States? Edited by: JesseZamora (http://pub80.ezboard.com/ujessezamora.showPublicProfile?language=EN) at: 9/1/01 11:13:49 pm

Okay, Forgotten Worlds is a shooter game.  It is mostly a side scrolling game with some of the scenes changing direction as the level progresses.

The graphics are very sharp, the music is off the charts good, and the game play is pretty solid.

Having to use the select button to change the direction of the cannon is annoying but nessessary to effect duplicate the action of the arcade version of the game.

As far as the other games that were made available for the TGCD by Capcom are:

Fighting Street (AKA. Street Fighter) - the original version of the one on one fighter.  The graphics are okay, the music is pretty decent, BUT the controls are terrible.  Being able to consistantly defeat normal opponents is difficult.

Buster Bros (AKA. Pomping World) - Based of the arcade game of the same name.  Very faithful translation, fantastic music, great game play.

Street Fighter 2 Championship Edition - A very good version of the first update of Street Fighter 2.  Nothing peticularly wrong with the game, but there is nothing that the SNES version of Turbo edition OR the Street Fighter Collection for the PSX would give you. Import only, kinda rare, not really worth the money you'd have to pay for it... completist collectors only.

There was also Strider for the Arcade Card (Never played it) and Ghouls and Ghosts for the Super Graphix (Also never played it)

That's about all I can remember

Well, SF2:CE... isn't something I'd look for anyhow, as it was import [I couldn't find a kisado anyhow, and as that's a chip... (http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/frown.gif) ].  But SF1/Fighting Street would definately help complete the SF collection for me.  Buster Bros, I may or may not get.  I've seen BB Collection for the PSone, so I have to compare the versions first. Anyway, thanks for the help. (http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif)
Title: More Capcom games on the PCE
Post by: Brasilpce on September 05, 2001, 12:32:00 PM
Hi, there.

Here are some other Capcom games released for the PC-ENGINE:

- Tenchi O Kurau (Dynasty Wars) - Excellent port of the famous arcade game. PCE version by NEC Avenue.

- Chiki Chiki Boys - Amazing port from another great Capcom arcade platform game. This one is really, really good!

- Strider (ACD) - Not that good, pretty dull movements, but amazing soundtrack and stylish cinemas.

- Ghouls and Ghosts (SGX) - AMAZING!!! The best G&G port ever!!

- 1941 Counter Attack (SGX) - AMAZING part II!!! Simply astonishing, but pretty impossible to be found!

Hmmm... maybe there are others, but I can't remember! (http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif)

Take care,

Forgotten Worlds was an awesome game. I first played itwhen it first came out in the arcades.  The game used a large paddle/button to turn and shoot in multi directions.  Very hard to duplicate on the turbo pad or genesis pad (there was also a genesis, atari xt and amiga versions i believe).  But from what i heard the Turbo is the best version since it does include all the arcade levels (genesis version is missing two levels).

Its sorta like sidearms (another great capcom game)...but with better graphics (I believe it was running on the capcom CPS1 arcade board..which is same as SFII).

This is definitely one good shooter game....and one of my favs next to strider and ghouls and ghosts.

I still remember when I first read Gamefan review regarding Forgotten Worlds SCD, they gave really low scores for background and no 2-player option.

Genesis version is good and contains 2-player mode.  Unfortunately due to the technology in early Genesis stage, 2 stages were missing.

I will go with Duo version (all the levels) and awesome music :)

Also Forgotten Worlds was the first game to use the Avenue Pad 3, I believe the pad was designed for this game.

The only game Capcom had a hand inport to PCE was SFIICE, every other game was licensed out.

Other Capcom games for PCE:

Side Arms & Side Arms Special

Adventure Quiz Capcom World

Son Son II -anime version of Black Tiger :P

1942

Tiger Road -not a port, a new game

Just a reminder that Capcom has never released any game on Duo.  NEC Ave re-programmed and published those Capcom games..........

I don't suppose the Avenue pad 3 works on the US version?
What about the 6 button controller?

Sidearms Hyperdyne was reprogrammed by Radiance Software. I'm not sure if there's any relation between Radiance and NEC Avenue though. I tried contacting Radiance a number of years ago but they were apparently out of business or something...

Excellent question.  I'm curious about this.  I need to unpack some boxes, but I may check this out.  I think i have a DUO --> TG-16 convertor... somewhere to plug AVE 3 into my TG-16...

Forget the Avenue 3 pad.Do this,if you have any solder skills, find you a arcade stick for Snes/Genesis,that used micro switches.Use the circutboard in the Tg16/Duo gamepad,by placing solder on the connector tab areas, and on the correct matching microswitches on the arcade stick, then with some good wire go to soldering, wire it all up.You will then have a dual arcade stick for both systems, and best yet,you can wire up run and select tobe right beside the 1 and 2 buttons,to get a better layout for games like forgotten worlds.I have done this for years.

You know, I had a couple Ave 6 pads for the last 8 years or so, but never tried them with FW.

Since I didn't like the feel of the loose D-Pads(hopefully ware) I sold them with my spare Turbo Duo to pay for my Duo-R like last month.

Otherwise I'd have tried them out as soon as I read this post.

I do have the 6 button Duo-R pad, but lent it along with the system to a friend to playYs IV in english.

Next time I see him I'll ask for the pad back and will give it a try in 6-button mode.

I put Magic Engine in my MAME cabinet and can play Turbo games with an X-Arcade stick. I say stick, because you can only map out one full pad to the 2P side because of the layout of ME & the X-Arcade sticks.

This is as far as I'll go for joysticks on a Duo, since I prefer pads in general.

I have made an arcade stick before using a Playstation controller PCB and used it for MAME which was nice. However I'll stick to a pad for Duo games and most 16-bit or less games. By the way, there appear to be many nice arcade sticks for PCE that I have yet to try out.

wow, I honestly didn't know about all the different things folks can do for controllers.  I've seen stuff but never really paid attention... yet another area of video gaming that I need to explore further :)
