Title: Turbo Express Dead Pixel - Recycling Pixels back to life?
Post by: wolfman on August 09, 2014, 01:58:20 AM
I am having 2 dead or hot pixels on my TE, that came on last week - it still has its original display which I want to avoid replacing as long as possible.

I remember reading a post concerning cycling a display long enough with a special HuCard. That way the "stuck" pixels should come back to life. This was posted by someone here on the forum. I have no clue however if this is for real or just was an assumption.

Would it be possible to borrow or rent that card to try to fix my display? Who owns such a card?

There can be so many reason why a pixel is not working, and except for those that come alive when you give the screen a little finger bump and it starts working, unless it's that, it probably won't work.

Well here's the rom file someone made here some time ago, you will need a Turbo Everdrive or some other flash card to load it, and for those that don't have one, you can run it on the computer sending the video out of the computer via composite into the input on the tv tuner on the GT/TE, well if you have one.

Hey, thanks for that info! Do you know if that really works, or is it just a placebo?

Unfortunately I don´t have an everdrive to test it....

Might work, but I doubt it, I guess you don't have any tuner then, a US or Jap doesn't matter in this case.

A few guys here can burn it on those eprom hueys for you.
Chop for one, if he has any of those cards left.

It color cycles like a madman, you just have to try it, who knows you might get lucky.

Mmmh....would you borrow me one? I´d cover postage for you?

Since I would only need it once, buying an Everdrive just for this purpose seems a bit luxurious...

If you're worried about stuck pixels, just change the LCD for a modern screen; color washout, low resolution, and ghosting detract from the experience waaaaay more than a couple stuck pixels.

As for unsticking a stuck pixel (nothing will fix a dead pixel), the odds are slim to none of anything working on a 25 year old panel.

Well, the trouble is

a) I have problems removing the metal shield to get to the video chip
b) a screen small enough to fit inside (don´t want to remove the cover inside the original window).

These are my main reasons. Otherwise everything is fine, as I almost completely recapped it myself...
