Title: eBay Member: celforsale... "disk prints"
Post by: bob on August 14, 2014, 02:23:53 PM
After a quick mention in another thread, I went to eBay to see if these "disk prints" are actually floating out there.  Sure enough, some moron celforsale is indeed printing these stupid things.

SNATCHER SEGA CD PRINT (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Snatcher-Sega-CD-Disk-Print-/301278047267?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4625922c23)

Our message exchange:

Dear celforsale,
I dont get it. Why would you do this?
-galam (not my true eBay ID)

Dear galam,
No matter how many games you have, you can only play 1 at a time. I sell this, looks like an expensive game, looks good on your shelf. Thanks, Dan.

Dear celforsale,
But its just a disc. I guess Im not following your logic. Besides, the bigger problem is that somebody is going to buy this, burn the snatcher image on it and try to pass it off as "real".

Dear galam,
If you send me another message I will report you. I do not want to discuss my "logic," and you are not my customer.

Dear celforsale,
um...ok.  you can report me I guess.  not sure why, as i was just wondering if you realized you were possibly facilitating the production of counterfits.  My original question was simply "why make these?" because i didnt really understand the point of them.
I think we found the real reason behind them.  The "to sit on a shelf" is comedy.

His Popful Mail cdr is more than double the price of many of his others, because it's a picture of the "rare" variant of the actual game.

I wish ebay gave a crap about stuff like this. I believe this was brought up on one of Pat the NES Punk's podcast months ago, which means it's been reported many times. People reporting it has obviously done a lot of good.

Not until eBay gets sued will they start giving a crap about this stuff.

They'd probably make you pay a listing fee and final sale fee to start/end the lawsuit. They'd still get theirs out of it.  :)

Isnt reprinting the Sega CD label a copyright infringement?

Well its funny, the original auction i messaged him through, he then "ended" it early.
Then relisted it with the "its not a bootleg" description.

I suspect this guy has had a few of his auctions shut down by ebay for trying work around the Ebay rules.  He makes it a point to tell you that he will make other re-prints and conduct the transaction through ebay.  When have you ever seen that listed in an auction?

Certainly.  The Sega CD logo, Konami's logo, the Snatcher logo, and the Snatcher disc art are all copyrighted or trademarked.  Hell, even the compact disc logo isn't free for use.

This twat is still at it?!  I'm a bit tempted to dump $15 to buy one just so I can leave negative feedback, but they'd probably just create another account to sell this shit if they got banned anyway and I'd just be out $15 with a shitty CDR.

Oh, and that "rare" Popful Mail one?  It looks like he just ran out of ink mid-print.  What a f*cking tool.

It was.  I saw that episode.  Pat calls him out cold and rightfully so.  What a douchebag.

I was wondering how long it would take the counterfeit scene to move into the disc based stuff.  Here's the answer.

I have personally made copies of expensive games on NES for my personal use but these tool bags trying to make a buck off unsuspecting buyers is sad.

Lol your way late, it has been going on since people found out you could copy cd based games. It is harder to make cart based because you need some skill. That guy is a serious joke and ebay won't shut him down.

I know disc copying has been going on for a long time (I used to rent and copy PS1 games to play on my modded system).  I just personally haven't seen any that had legit looking artwork printed on them is all.

Mr. Potato Head will cut you if you don't buy that disc. He's obviously already lost an ear in a knife fight.
