Title: Better in North America?
Post by: slinkyturd on August 21, 2014, 04:21:29 PM
I wanna hear what you guys think. Which games that were released for both PCE and TG16 but were clearly better releases in North America. Please exclude any critique on the language barrier.

Conversely, I have another thread started for the opposite here:

"Clearly" is a dangerous word to use, but here goes:

Shadow of the Beast, although it has its cinemas in little windows in the US version, loads much faster, and crashes/stalls far less often than the JP version with its full-screen cinemas and even weirder ending.

Lords of Thunder doesn't have a dumb voice-over in the intro/intermission, while Winds of Thunder does.  You can just enjoy the unfettered music, which is clearly superior.

R-Type US is missing the 4th-level intermission and music of the JP cards, but plays in one go.  Better?

Magical Chase has more developed and better-drawn graphics in the US version, but it lacks the sound test...

Just didn't want to hear minor stupid details like "in japanese version, bonk has a gray pixel here whereas in the us version it was corrected." Nice input btw. All news to me.

Bonk's middle forms are feminine in the PC Engine versions. I prefer the North American forms, because it's a natural progressions which also better fits the overall theme.

I think that Zonk's bomb is cooler than giant turds, but Denjin has the cool intro. More people seem to prefer Denjin, but I like how the music syncs up in Zonk during the intro.

Godzilla is better on PCE, because the quiz mini-game lets you earn enough points to unlock every form.

Dragon Slayer is clearly better on PCE, because of the CD2 extras.

I think that the original Booby Kids theme works better in Cratermaze than the Doraemon version, but both have great music.

I don't like the Adventure Island intro, so Dragon's Curse is better.

Exile WP is broken, so Exile/EXR II is better.

Exile seems to have not had any cuts and the fading in/out static is fixed, so it's better on Turbo-CD.

Gate of Thunder's three bonus games make it clearly better than the PCE version.

JJ & Jeff (Kato & Ken) was completely reworked for the US market. Kato & Ken are a comedy duo that are famous in Japan but not so much in North America.

At least the North American releases are better than the Switzerland released games...

I prefer the US Bonks and Zonk, as glam Bonk and coiled turds don't really fit.

Yep, the 'bomb' in PC Denjin is a pile of poo.  On the plus side, the cow friend transformation gives you tittehs that you use to shoot out milk.

Yeah, I guess you shoot milk jugs, but they make a nice milk splatter when they hit something.

I think the spray can in JJ&Jeff is superior to farting. However, I like the other potty humor in KATO&KEN CHAN....(like peeing on streetlight, or naked butts getting kicked).

This if only working design hadn't had telenet change the game code to begin with.
