Trying to find a copy of this around somewhere. No luck with the makers, from what I understand they're not printing anymore nor do they have anymore to sell. I did just see one come up on ebay, but the seller is gouging that thing at 150$ no way in hell would I would even consider spending that much on a homebrew. Id go to maybe 45-50 since It was a limited print, but that's gonna be about it.
-
Wow, $150? Geeze... I had several copies that I gave away maybe 3 months ago. Didn't know they were going to be so scarce. Maybe once rover is settled after his move they'll look into a second print run.
-
$150?! Holy shit. Mine is a steal at $149 then.
-
Man... you're in the same boat as me. I also want this game. I have seen the gouging of it on eBay and such. I am just being patient that either another run will be produced or one will turn up for a decent price.
-
yea I got a 2nd copy I raffled it off. f*ck the ebay gougers
-
It would make sense to print more, unless the folks behind it are sitting on X amount of copies to flip.
If there is enough demand, might as well print something, again.
Then again, that's the only way some folks will buy, if it is, "LIMITED EDITION".
"Yard-A-Pult", the Mysterious Song stuff. It's like getting rid of car tires, used diapers, magical Chase, etc.

-
Nah, the guys behind it arent that type. I know they're quite busy with other things at the moment but maybe eventually they'll be able to get some more copies pressed.

I know, but a, "Yard-A-Pult" for it would be good. Launch them in a parking lot someplace. "Parking-Lot-A-Pult". That has a nice ring.
-
Yea maybe I should just shoot the guys over at Frozen Utopia a message about a possible 2nd print..... Any in the meantime, ill sleep on that offer you made me there Quid :P
-
After I make the move to the mainland (next Friday, woohoo), I will give this more consideration. The others have to be on board with the idea as well though.

If this forum had a "LIKE" button I would press it.

That would be awesome! Please keep us posted on that, I would much rather spend the money in support of the actual creator of the game as opposed to buying second-hand
-
BTW, some friends of mine who pre-ordered the collector edition many years ago -and have paid- are still waiting for their copies.
What's going on ?
-
Collector edition? I didnt think it was any different than the regular game except for there were a few extra bonus items that came with it. Might shoot Keranu a message as I think he was handling some of the orders also.
-
Collector or whatever you call it, some are still waiting for their copies with extras to be shipped. ANd now I read that it sold out ?

I ordered the "Collector Edition." Waited a while and hadn't received it, so I e-mailed them. Turns out they sent my game to the wrong address or something like that. They corrected it and I got the game later. Maybe this happened to your friends except they didn't contact them?
-
ANd now I read that it sold out ?
This isn't news at all. It's been sold out for quite some time, so where were these people like a year ago?
-
They've been e-mailing since the release of the game without any reply from Frozen Utopia. They're gonna send me all the infos about when they paid and when they e-mailed Frozen Utopia.
-

Well, if it's any consolation I'm interested in buying one. I was just looking last week... only to hit the wall every time I found a link on Google. As I'm sure there are others who haven't gotten it yet who would like to. It looks like a rather good game... I love how you put all the cheesy cut scenes into it.
-
Just for the record, mine arrived without any issues way back when.

Send me a message here on the forum with the information.
-
Ok, I'll ask my friend to send me that ;)
-
I got a good deal on one at cge, only one I saw and it was in the swap meet section
-
I do have a copy of this game, and for a homebrew it's pretty damn good. The best thing about was how well they sync up the voice to the animation. The rough part is you need to run through the game 3 times to unlock everything :-) much fun. much fun.
-
Hey shub, been over a month now and still no word from ya. :(
Anyway, a second pressing is coming.

Wow, that's big news! What made you guys change your mind?

Yay! I'll keep my eyes peeled for more information on this!

Nice.
-
The second pressing was ordered some time ago but it was kept under wraps until the order was completely smoothed out. Looks like we're good to go now, so the sponsor has authorized a pre-order.
http://www.frozenutopia.com/
It should arrive sometime in late November/early December.
-
What was the catalyst that triggered your reversal? Originally the website said there would never be a reprint--so clearly you guys went into this deliberately intending NOT to do exactly what you are now doing.
And can you say how many more are being produced? I'm curious to know what the upper limit is for these sorts of projects. It took 1 year+ (something like that?) to sell the original 500 (minus copies lost in shipping)--although there does seem to be more interest in the platform lately, and presumably the omgzrare prices on eBay are signalling some additional demand.
-
not trying to sound pissy... but just want to offer an outsider's opinion: rover is not deserving of gougetard-suspicion.
Wha??
I am not suggesting that at all...
Not sure how that came across wrong. I was just asking what made them change their mind and how many were being produced, there was literally nothing about that intended to label or demonize Rover or Frozen Utopia, a person and group I highly respect.
Edit: I guess maybe the link and directness of my question seemed aggressive or something? Don't read too much into it, I'm asking because I want to know more about the viability of homebrew in the market and what kind of real numbers can get sold. That's why I'm asking. It has nothing to do with gouging.
-
The game is still in high demand and someone (I will let him reveal his name if he so chooses to do so) put up the funds for a second pressing as a result. He came to me about it and asked me that if he were to fund a second pressing, would I do it. I said sure. This was about a month or so ago, I believe. A short while later, we started the process of bringing MSR back to press. All the details got ironed out, and here we are now. :D
EDIT: there are 500 new discs.

Awesome news! And a big thanks to the original developers and the unnamed good Samaritan that ponied up the dough for another print!
-
Thanks for this. I pre-ordered a copy !
-
Just a quick heads-up... this second run is not exactly the same as the first... it is a slightly upgraded version of the game. There were some minor cosmetic fixes, as well as a couple of major errors fixed that we didn't catch in the beta test. The code was also streamlined in a few places due to my assembler modification. However, nothing new was added and nothing existing was taken out... it is still the same game as it was before.
-
So nothing to warrant a second purchase aside from collectard purposes?
What are these major errors you mentioned Rover? I, as well as many others have completed the game without running into any problems, so they would be more or less random occurrences? This, admittedly, is the first I've heard of any problems with the game so if it was mentioned about before, I missed it.
-
TBD ran into one of the errors during their review. The other error was an equipment error... something didn't quite work as designed. Neither error manifests in the normal game but in the EX game.
The reason this was put out was because people are still demanding it, not to make people rush out to buy it all over again. If I was interested in making people buy it all over again, I would have overhauled all of the graphics and upgraded it to the Eternal Silence game engine.
-
Good to hear.
-
Nice, glad to see that it is coming! Now to scrape up the extra cash for a copy :)
-
I'm going to put in a preorder after the month flips over, thanks for the reprint.
-
Sounds good. I also appreciate the reprint. I didn't even know the game existed until like a few weeks ago; so I wasn't around during the first print.
I will surely put in my pre-order in November.
-
Awesome news on the reprint! I ended up scoring a copy from our good friend KeithCourage for a good deal I couldnt refuse. Hell, I may still end up pre-ordering a second print copy just to have the 2 versions...
-
This is great news!
In case you want to see some video of the actual game itself, here's a review from last year (special thanks to the Frozen Utopia gang):

Keeping y'all updated... the master discs arrived in Texas yesterday, so now the process begins as soon as our project is first in the queue. They will be here soon! :)
-
Placed my order and can't wait to check it out.
-
wait, 2 versions?
-
wait, 2 versions?
Not really... this second pressing just has a couple of bugfixes and minor cosmetic fixes but is otherwise the same game... there's nothing new in it, it's basically just a re-pressing for those who missed out on the first batch.
-
Placed my order and can't wait to check it out.
Same here! Looking forward to checking this out!
-
The manufacturer was being boneheaded again and so things were delayed but we should have the check disc soon to verify that they did the stamper correctly. *waiting patiently*
-
I too am waiting patiently for it... but, it's better to be correct than to be sorry later.
-
They foolfarted around for the entire month of November but the check disc finally arrived and it checks out alright, so the stamper is correct. So now, they can begin the production run. It will only take a few days to manufacture and package up. I would say that we should have the actual product no earlier than a week from now but knowing our luck, it will be the end of the bloody year.

Any idea on Jungle Bros?

Any idea on Jungle Bros?
lord_cack wanted to take it beyond the realm of the PC Engine so we could fully explore its crazy animation. We haven't spoken about it in some time though, unfortunately. :(

Any latest news on the 'Mysterious Song' re-release??? I was hoping to be playing it around this time :(

Given the crazy shenanigans that occurred with the first pressing, I will be shocked if the second pressing goes smoothly.
Of course, I hope I am wrong.

I just placed my order after the holidays. I can't wait to finally play this.
But I need to ask, what happened with the first pressing?

The test disc played fine and they were given the notice to proceed on 12/10, so now it's just a waiting game until Rover has the discs. These Texans are anything but speedy. :|

Ha! What *didn't* happen.
You can find the old thread. The incompetence at the pressing plant was astounding. Pressing a mixed media (CD-ROM with data + Red Book) in a "nonstandard" (PC Engine) format shouldn't actually be too difficult, but the folks at the pressing plant have no skills, don't communicate well (even with each other, at the plant!), and fall back on a generic script/procedure even when they are SPECIFICALLY TOLD NOT TO DO SO.
Several different people handled the job, instead of one person who was intimate and familiar with the unique aspects of pressing a PC-Engine disc. Every time the "case worker" (ha!) changed, new problems ensued (imagine Old Rover and Keranu explaining the same thing over and over and over to different folks handling the job).
So many test pressings...botched by the plant due to their poor communication/directions between the "case worker" and the "dude in the plant who runs the software to make a test pressing" (I forget the fancy name for this disc).
It was absurd.
-
Damn. I hope the 2nd run doesn't have nearly as many encountered issues as with the 1st pressing. This should've gone smoothly.......
-
I was just coming to ask the same thing. Also I sent a PM to you concerning my ship to address. I ran into an issue with my order to Aertherbyte and would like to avoid having to go through that again. Though Andrew was a great help while the issue was happening.
-
I will be on the horn with these slowpokes today to find out WHAT DA FACK. They screwed off all November due to incompetence, and then December came and went without the shipment showing up. Never again will I use Nationwide. At least this time there should be no shipping issues, as I'm on the mainland now. I never did hear back from the USPS police investigators about all the missing shipments during the first run.
-
Okay... I got on the phone with the project manager and he says that due to the xmas season, it wasn't even finished. He said he would personally take care of it himself and have them shipped out and they should arrive next Thursday. Fanflippintastic... way over two months late.
-
Better late than never! I can't wait to get my hands on it. Also thank you for addressing my problem.
-
They gave me the tracking number, so now we know it's finally on the way. Sheesh.

Yes! I can't wait! Thanks for the updates Rover.

They're on the way, but will they match what was ordered and will they work? With these goobers, you never know for sure.

Do you know whether the wonderful dudes over at Frozen Utopia are still accepting pre-orders on the 2nd pressing with all this pressing shenanigans going on??
-

Yeah, pre-orders are still open for about 36 more hours.

Thank you! Just ordered my copy!
-
Ooo.. Put in another preorder. :P Hopefully the black hole that sucked up all of the copies (3?) of the first run that were sent to me has dissipated and I'll finally get to play it. ;)
-
Just checked the tracking... the shipment is in Chelmsford, MA. It should arrive tomorrow, right on time. :D
-
Chelmsford. I gotta look at a map...I never heard of it.
-
The shipment arrived at the White River Junction distribution center (I know where this is... it's not very far away) at 3:53AM. So I guess it'll be loaded onto the local truck and will be headed this way. Right on time. :)
-
So who will be shipping these out? You, Rover?
-
Yessir. :)
-
Dude, this is great news! Can't wait!!
-
The boxes have arrived! Let the shipping carnage begin! :D
Actually, I am first trying to test the disc on my laptop but not having much luck. Windows won't recognize either the new version or the old version. I know that this has always been an issue for Windows. Anyone have any ideas as to any drivers I can install in Windows 7 64 bit to make it recognize the disc? The disc runs fine in a normal audio CD player but I want to do a boot test. I don't have legit hardware anymore... had to sell it before leaving PR.

Ain't no party like a Mysterious Song party!
Wooot, nice Rove!
-
I'm so excited! Can't wait to finally get a copy
-
The fun part about this is that you cannot tell the difference from the packaging that you're getting a first pressing or a second pressing. You have to look at the disc itself, on the inner ring on the read side. On the original disc, you'll see WMG-C0-8511-30865A 363516-53197-6J-R. The second pressing reads WMG-C0-17442-54309A 385383 22548-3J6Y.
-
Please delete what you just said so I can flip it for triple once it comes in :D
-
See my sig.
-
This is good news! Looking forward to receiving my copy!
-
Well Old Rover, if you want you can send mine to me along with a few extra copies and I'd be happy to test them on actual hardware
-
That's a good idea! :D Then after you test them and the book you're publishing is finished being written, you could include the games with the limited edition numbered-run first print as a bonus for pre-orders.
Hahaahhahahahahahahaha.
Damn, you are cold as ice. :)
-
The first round of pre-orders will be going out either tomorrow or Monday, depending on time and whether or not I have pants.

Pants.

All of the existing orders and pre-orders should be shipped by tomorrow.

My copy arrived today!!! Thanks Old Rover!!!
-
I received my copy today. Yes! Now I can't wait to get home and play it.
-
Can't wait for mine to show up in my mailbox :)
-
I still have a few left to send out but have been very very busy as of late. I will get the rest sent out tomorrow on my way to work.

I ordered my copy on the 14th sooo.... I should assume I was one of these packages? (:
-
The only ones I have left are ones with address conflicts. Everyone else's has been sent.
-
There are now no orders left to ship.
-
Woohoo... I finally got a copy! Looks like the canada post vortex didn't claim this one!
-
Thanks a lot for the great service. Got my copy extra fast !
