Title: Brand New Dragon Slayer Sealed Mint ... What's it worth?
Post by: tbone3969 on August 26, 2014, 06:42:31 AM
Hello. I have a NIB MINT Dragon Slayer. I was wondering what you guys think it's worth. I was thinking of selling it or trading it if the right deal came along. I really just want a complete version with the map. I bought this years ago to play but never got around to it so it just sat sealed.

You have it listed on Ebay for 600.0? Get out of here. Just leave. We dont want people here that wish to rip people off

I believe it was $59.95 new. It's probably worth less by now though since it's not technically brand new anymore.

I always remember Dragon Slayer being a $40 to $50 game, so I'd guess a sealed one maybe $150.... but then again all sanity has left video games so some idiot with too much disposable income will probably pay stupid money for a game they cant even play.
Since it obviously wasnt worth the $500 you were asking, surely its worth the $600 you're asking now...

There were a lot of new old stock copies floating around a few years ago for 50-60. It's not among the rarest turbografx games and is more common as a sealed game than a lot of others are.

It's free to list on eBay so I figured why not. I know it's not worth $600 but I was just curious to see what kind of offers would come in. So far I haven't gotten any offers and it's been up for over a month. Pricecharting doesn't have an accurate price for a new copy so I came to this forum to get the forum's opinion on what it's worth. Anyone want to tell me what they think it's worth? CIB versions seem to go for anywhere between $100 - $250 depending on if it has the map and overall condition.

I never meant any disrespect. I own 2 TurboGrafx Cds with 1 copy of the 3.0 card, A SCD attachment and CoreGrafx set up, and a boxed SuperGrafx. I am a legit collector and I love Turbo/PC Engine stuff. Everything works as well. I had to send both CD units out for repair to get them working properly.

Honestly if you are really serious about selling it and want the "market" price you need to just list it starting at $0.99 for 7 days. There isnt as much precedent on sealed items so its really hard to gauge a price for such an item. In such cases you're best to just let the market decide. Maybe youll get $150, maybe $350, really depends how bad people want it and whether or not you get two fools fighting each other.

Its kind of a fun game. Nice voice overs
I've traded sealed games for opened copies before. Most notable I traded a sealed US Cotton for an opened cotton and another common game. Could I have made more selling it and buying an opened copy, probably but it was worth it to get two games I could play for one that I'd have to open to play.

I beat the game. It was a lot of fun. I would discourage you from selling it because it is a lot of fun. If you would rather have the money than have fun, well....
I'd keep it. Unless you can't get the smell of cat piss out of the map (true story). That would be grounds for selling the game

I picked up one of these at that time along with some other members. I think one of them even had a video showing himself opening the sealed game.

there are so many things wrong with your posts that I dont even have the time to call them all out. just open the f*cking thing. i bet the map is in there...then BLAMMO...you have a "complete" copy. now...if it was truly "NIB", then maybe worth $600 since you would be the only person in the world with the "box".
mint.
P.S. good introduction. people that come here thinking its an appraisal house always have good experiences. P.P.S. nintendo age

Its only worth as much as someone is willing to pay you for it. Same goes for comics, cards, figures, etc.
I've had many items in the past that were worth a lot according to whatever official price guide, yet anytime I would try to sell them at a convention or what not, no one was willing to pay remotely close to the guide price.
My advice: put it up for auction starting at .99¢. Whatever it ends at is what its worth.

Yes, Necro.
tbone, pretty much everyone who posts a "HEY HOW MUCH CAN I MAKE OF THIS GAME" thread gets their ass handed to them on this forum. Diehard turbo fans reside here who get insanely pissed when the price is driven up by people looking to make a quick buck. You're not special.

I disagree. I usually use Pricecharting as a guide. They say it's worth $119.99 new but they also say a CIB copy is $199.99. Doesn't make any sense. When Pricecharting fails me I then research eBay to get an idea but considering I can't find any completed listings for a new copy on there either I came here. I see nothing wrong with that. Call me crazy?

You presumably believe it's worth more than $300 (else you wouldn't have declined the offer) and you know $500 is too high (else it would've sold).
Are you honestly trying to say you'd agree with us if we all said it was worth say $200? Don't lie now.

This thread seems disingenuous at best. Ignoring that, there's a simple solution that possibly hasn't been discussed enough so far in this thread: you HAVE a complete copy of the game. If you weren't trying to flip it for profit cuz "Businessman!" then you could just play it now and use the map should you ever get lost.

You turned down $300 for Dragon Slayer? Well good luck getting that here, and just so you know the guy wanting it for $300 (if that really did happen) has no idea what it's really worth. Now a days it's worth what some moron just getting into turbo is willing to pay. There is really no definitive answer anymore. Me personally I wouldn't pay more than $75 for a new sealed copy. It is no where near a rare game. No where near that. You should've taken the money and run if that's what you're looking for.

A friend of mine in high school lost a testicle. Apparently he got sick and in the process of violently vomiting, his nut flipped upside down and strangled itself. Similar thing happened to two other people I know, but they were able to get to the hospital and save their nut before it was too late.
Think about this every time you cough or puke. It could be the death of one of your nuts.

I get collectards being completely oblivious to the concept of video games serving any purpose other than as collectardibles. Hence the "tard' part of the title. What amazes me is how so many can jump straight into a forum that is clearly not supportive of collecardation and is obviously about the subject they are set building off of, but then still be shocked that they aren't being congratulated on their pride and instead continue to assure everyone that they are elitist possessors. I wonder how many of them sign up for Black Hair Media (http://forum.blackhairmedia.com/) and then lash out at everyone for not lining up to pat them on the back for their boasts of video-games-as-dust-pedestals hoarding?

Agreed! I don't watch ebay prices incredibly closely, but, I've never seen Dragon Slayer sell for $300 or more (CIB seems to be selling for ~$100 recently).
I just don't think that there is enough popularity for the series (or even perceived rarity) to drive that price that high). Plus, the game really isn't that rare. E.g., I bought a shrink wrapped copy just a couple of years ago for about $40. Prices seem more inflated now, but I would think that $150 would be the high end for a shrink wrapped copy (unless you find someone crazy enough to pay more... such as $300). I really doubt that a no reserve ebay auction would go that high.

I believe it was $59.95 new. It's probably worth less by now though since it's not technically brand new anymore.
This is actually my line of thinking with buying new "old" games. If brand new, I'm willing to pay up to original retail price if it's a game I really want. Of course that doesn't take into consider scarcity and other factors, but generally that's my attitude.

ron_jeremy_obey.avi
It's because they know they aren't going to get the rediculous price they want.

Hey I'm a collectard first price gouger second. If I can make a quick buck why not?
What's wrong with that?
However there are some games I have that I will not part with for almost any price (I say almost b/c there comes a tipping point where money can buy anything "Everyone has a price" as Ted DiBiase would say)

Guys! Guys! Guys! I just found a turd SEALED NIB and it's in MINT condition! What's it worth?!
Look, I'm just trying to get a decent value on this. I already own 2 Sealed NIB turds with just one sealed bottle of urine. I want a fair price for this or a decent trade.
But seriously, if you want a value on it do as suggested, put it on ebay for 7 days at 0.99 and see what you get.

I don't know what you're talking about. . Shrink wrap easily adds another $550 or so in value to any thing. For example, a used VHS copy of Pretty Woman is worth about 50 cents to a dollar. . add some shrink wrap to it, and you've now easily got a treasure worth about $550.50 to $551.00.
It's simple science really

Oh i see :) ill stick to the used complete copies for my part. I even saw video games stores that re-shrink wrap old games to sell them as brand new one. i dont trust brand new anymore since then (except if it just came out), if its used and complete i'm fine with it. 8)

I heard some Gamestop stores do that, sell used copies by re-shrink wrapping them. Although, they aren't technically "used," since all they did was take off the shrink wrap. But still, I'm a hardcore collector, and I don't like anybody tampering with my copy!
I used to own a game store and had a professional shrink wrap machine. It is possible to make it look brand new.
As for a brand new copy of Dragon Slayer, I think the OP should just put it on Ebay as an auction to let the folks on there vote with their bids as to its true value. I highly doubt it would sell anywhere your perceived value price.

What was it called/what was it like?
It was a local store called GameQuest. Initially, we carried a ton of Japanese imported and some domestic games for all the consoles, from retro up to the current generation. We also had a lot of Japanese goodies like Gundam/anime toys, wall scrolls, and memorabilia. Later on, we carried Japanese anime and movies as well. It was nice when you walked it. It felt like you were in Japan for that moment. :-)

Celophane may require a machine, but anyone can afford a shrink wrapping setup, which consists of a roll similar to saran wrap, a simple heat sealing strip and a heavy duty hair dryer.

The last, new, VHS I opened, was NOS. Someone found a box of a title in a back room, I took one. It was a Key Video release of, "Tomorrow's Child". An OK movie, for what it was/is. Fun opening the shrink-wrap, since across it vertically was a white, "Key Video" stamp of originality. Sad thing is, after I sold most of my VHS, and was moving the remainder, something impacted that specific cassette sleeve, near where the hub was, and damaged it. Oh Well, I was keeping it, anyway. I took that as a sign, since that was the only sleeve damaged.

I usually spend my time on these forums down in the PCE Developers threads but I do check in here every time I check the forums. I KNEW I had to read this thread and it didn't disappoint.
What I love the most is, the guy who started this thread hasn't posted since August 26 on page 4. So thats three pages where people just keep going. I really do love it

Still trying to sell it it seems... http://www.ebay.com/itm/BRAND-NEW-Dragon-Slayer-The-Legend-of-Heroes-TurboGrafxCD-1992-Turbo-/141376759387 $549, a whole $50 cheaper!

I might offer a basket of fresh born kittens. Unfortunately, eBay only lets you make an offer with money. Pfft...stupid.
Also, I got my copy for $0 because the disk has a scratch that may affect gameplay. So....
The lesson I've learning is...
A) Piece of thin plastic surrounding a plastic jewel case of a game that you won't be able to play, cuz you won't open it = $600
B) Plastic jewel case surrounding a disk that has a scratch that may or may not affect a game you will at least get to play = $0
Perfectly reasonable I think. ](*,)

I got the same deal on my car. Had a scratch on it so they just gave it to me.
I got the same deal on every woman I've ever dated.

Oh yeah, I made one of those offers. Since I said I would offer a basket full of new born kittens for the game, but eBay won't let me do that, I looked up the value of a basket full of new born kittens (mint) on www.kittenbasket.pricecharting.com (http://www.kittenbasket.pricecharting.com/). Turns out, $23.68 US. My offer was declined.

But still $50 more than what it was listed at before he jacked it up to $600. Look at his complete listing of available items and see that it's listed as "$549.99 List price: $499.99", and who wouldn't want a sweet deal like that?
