Title: Secret Santa 2014
Post by: Necromancer on October 01, 2014, 07:00:54 AM
(http://img72.imageshack.us/img72/1295/xmaszonk.jpg)

It's Secret Santa time again!  Here's the rules:

1.  Don't sign up if you can't or won't follow through.
2.  Signups are open now until the first(ish) of November, at which time everyone'll be matched up and wish lists will get sent out to your respective Santa.
3.  To make life easier for me, please fill in the form below when sending me your info.  Keep in mind that the more options your Santa has, the better the chances of him (or her) finding a good deal in the time allotted.
4.  Value of your gift(s) should be in the $20-30 range - real value and not bloated OMG R@R3 L@@K bin pricing.
5.  Gifts should be mailed by December 10th at the latest, but don't mail it too early either.  If for some reason you won't be able to meet that time frame, please let me know as early as possible so that alternate plans can be made and nobody ends up with nothing under their tree but an old fruitcake.
6.  This is important and bears repeating: don't sign up if you won't follow through; you f*ck this up and I'll ban your ass.
7.  The most important rule is to have fun!

For extra holiday cheer, one random participant will be selected to receive coal (http://pcengine.co.uk/HTML_Games/Magicoal.htm) in their stocking and another participant will get a copy of the Turbo Legacy Poster (http://www.cafepress.com/pcenginefx.260707543).  If you don't want (or already have) either of these goodies, please note accordingly on the form below.

Also, let me know if you don't want to shop for me since it won't exactly be secret.

Thanks to xelement5x, one lucky Santa will be getting a loose copy of Hudson Vol. 5 - Necromancer.

This space reserved for list of participants.  Please send me a PM if your name isn't listed and it should be.

I don't need your wish list to sign up, by the way.  That can wait until the end of the month, so y'all got plenty of time to think it over.

If you don't want games at all (for any system), then we can ask for handy Santas that are willing to make something for you.  We had one like that last year and it worked out fine.

If anyone is on the fence about signing up... Do it! It's fun and I look forward to it every year!

I was so happy being a Grinch in years past. Don't underestimate the joy of isolating yourself.

Of course, this year I finally decide to join. The problem, for me, has always been choosing games that are cheap/easy to find.

I'm still having a hard time figuring out what the hell is an affordable game these days.

For me $25-35

Mind you the retro gaming market is just getting more and more jacked up in cost.

But you can often find games reasonably priced instead of the inflated cost

I nabbed a couple of things already.  I'm sitting on a few eBay auctions too.  I may have to drive up to Retro Taku in the Detroit area and see what they have as they normally have a large PCE selection.  Sadly, they are usually priced extremely high.

Lol.  I almost did that this year.

I just want to at least get 2 games for who I am assigned to.  It's just that price range makes it hard to do that now a days.    Especially if you might have to use ebay for certain items.

Finally all set with xmas gifts.  Should be sending out very soon!

Also, I noticed that a few items on the wish list that I sent out may have been a little steep for our ~$20 price range, I apologize for that.  I just hope that anyone that is looking for me doesn't feel like they NEED to get something on the list as, in all honesty, I'd be happy with anything!  I think this is totally just for fun, and wouldn't care whatever gets sent to me.  It's an honor to be able to open up a new TURBOB game on Xmas morning.  That's all.  :)

I made the list as more of a guide on some games I don't have, but will be just as happy with anything at all.  :)

Yeah, what I send out to Necro is normally just my general wish list of stuff I want, there some things on there I know I are waaaay out of budget for this.  In better news though stuff for my Santa should be shipped out to me this week from Japan, leaving me plenty of time to get them packaged up and sent out in time for Christmas.

I think it would be super-fun if we all waited until XMAS. And I mean really waiting, not cheating and then "claiming" to open it XMAS EVE/DAY.

I'm gonna wait, anyway.

This year's most requested games are Jackie Chan's Action Kung Fu and Salamander at five requests each; close behind at four requests each are Basted, L Dis, Sorcerian, and Splatterhouse.

I am really surprised about Basted. I listed it just so I could marvel at its cutscenes. But being a Japanese heavy RPG I thought I'd be the only one who would want it.

That happened to me once two years ago on another forum I use to do the secret Santa thing.

Long story short they guy had moved (got kicked out of his now ex girlfriends apartment) and I hadn't realized he sent me a change of address.

So the gift went to the wrong place. I had no way to prove I sent anything. I sent some quick Amazon stuff of his list but still to the same wrong address. This was when I realized my mistake.

Eventually I was able to redirect the goods from the original package but not the Amazon stuff as since it was returned it got creditors back to my card.

Thought about resenting the Amazon stuff to be a nice guy and all since by the time it got corrected it was middle of Jan way late for a Christmas gift

But Internet drama

It usually happens to a couple folks every year, you get a package open it up, say to yourself "Hey, I don't remember ordering this PC Engine game....."  then say! "SHIT!" when you realize you opened your Xmas gift two weeks early, LOL.

It isn't really a big deal, but it is for those that wanted to wait.  :P

I should be getting quite a few packages coming in with my name on it in the next week or so. I'm worried I'm going to do that and accidentally open my obey goodies.

I, like most of you, enjoy ripping open any package with my name on it. I'll have to be a little more careful (even though i don't want to wait! I know i should) :)

Looks like I'm this year's "Opened it too early Doofus"  #-o #-o

I sincerely had all intention of waiting until Christmas, but it was sent to the wrong address (my school address) and I thought I had f*cked up and accidentally sent something i recently bought on ebay to my school address. Reason why I didn't want it sent to school is because I'll be back home in 3 days, so had I left before this package arrived, it would've been a hassle to get back (because my building would be closed, it would have to be sent back to the return address, blah blah).

So my SS got lucky  No harm done though, I got the game!

Thanks SantaZonk! (Even though i figured out who you are) I'm excited to get this game. :D :D I hope everyone else is more careful when opening (and shipping for that matter) and I look forward to seeing what everyone else got on Christmas Day!

For this reason I don't tell my wife about anything gaming related.  She's not into it anyways.  What she doesn't know doesn't hurt her.  The only thing she knows that I bought is a pair of DS Lites I bought for the kids and added some custom touches.

The one I just sent is wrapped and includes a special disclaimer from St. Nick right when you open it up.

My package came the other day. It's wrapped all nice and purdy. Christmas morning will most likely see me blowing a huge load all over the damn place during the unwrapping process.

I forgot to mention this a week ago:

(1) I received my gift, it's under my tree. Yes my wife is jealous.

(2) I sent out Le Package and tracking confirmed delivery.

(3) I am waiting until Xmas morning to open gift. Yes my family will mock me.

Such a nice christmas here! This was a fun Secret Santa as always. Thanks again to Necromancer for organizing everything and thanks to "Peke Santa" for the totally AWESOME gifts. I love the X68000 controller especially so I can finally play all the Neo Geo ports properly.
Merry Christmas everyone!

I also got a second package from England!!! This was a total surprise. I opened the package a couple days ago and have already listened to the cd like 15 times. There are some totally awesome tracks. I especially like the Star Soldier electro track and the Ys songs. The Bazzy case will hold my Flash cards and stickers and stuff. I love it! (http://pcengine.freeforums.org/images/smilies/bazzy.gif)
Thanks Superplay!! You rock dude!

My Secret Santa bestowed on me a great piece of nobey.  I have really been wanting to play this one as I haven't before.  I was never quite sure if I would like the "Metroidvania" style.  I figure since it's related to Rondo it has to be good.

Big thanks to my SS and a huge thanks to Necromancer for organizing everything.  Merry Christmas!

Yeah it was some 25cent image comic I got. I like to stockpile on cheapie comics and use them as wrapping paper. Couldn't tell you what the actual comic was though. There's so many 25 cent bins at comic stores, i may as well put them to some use. :)

Cool it came it.

Also I won't be in that raffle because I bought myself a copy of said anime lol.  Although the TV show is much better then that one off OVA.

The other anime I THINK it is based on the other PCE game you were interested in.  It is the first vol but I think there are 7 total vols in that series.  It is also discontinued so finding the other DVDs might be a pain in the butt. Or maybe you can get them over the next few SS exchanges??

Thanks Duo_R! err...secret santa.  Here are some pics!  I might have a couple more of me opening them.  I'll have to check my wife's camera.  BTW the edible goodies were awesome!  Also, have a wonderful New Year!

I have never heard of Star Breaker. Hmmm...

BTW-I still don't know who my HuClause was. Speak up if you want! I'd like to thank thee... :)

Star Breaker was made by the Startling Odyssey II folks and was ideal for translating as the script is in plain S-JIS text with no compression. Needs a font hack I recall by someone like EsperKnight or Bonknuts.

Thanks jeffhlewis, great choice. I've only had the chance to play for about 30 minutes, but I plan on using this game to introduce some of my friends to the turbo via co-op mode.

Geise! Thanks so much man!

Grache, that is one of my favorite games of all time. DE's stellar music grabs me by the balls every time I play it, and it's unique atmosphere always warms my belly. That's a game that is definitely greater than the sum of its parts. Graphics and gameplay are wholly derivative yet the game somehow achieves greatness.

I can never say too many nice things about Dungeon Explorer. :)

No problem bud - I wanted to get you 2 games but I opted to get you one complete instead of two loosies. Hope you don't mind ;)

Valkyrie Profile and Brave Story were even sealed.  Thanks, Hoobs!

I asked, but did not adhere to the normal PCEFX rules of this, so, I almost followed the rules of this.... only I was not-so-secret, and cheaper, and not so random.

Interesting to see how others handle this, each year, though!

Uh, what?

I had to think for a moment... That's right, it wasn't the secret santa I asked you about, just if you wanted a card... Then again, I could have mentioned something about secret santa.

My secret Santa'ing wasn't so secret, and just involved some stuff taking up space, duplicate stuff, not games, though. So, I gave them away for x-mas.

Maybe this year I'll take part in this properly!

Okay, so I probably win for latest display of goodies.  I was out of town over the holidays and didn't want to be bled by Santa so I waited until I got home.  I opened up everything but haven't got a chance to play anything yet. :(

Genji Tsushin Agedama
Delicious Bucky Badger Popcorns
Mega Man (I think) with an awesome custom case
Gojira Fold out cards, nice!

Many thanks to my Santa, you silly cheesehead :P

I'd love to try Mega Man on Super CD. Too bad that was all ruined. The HuCard version's sound and music are a bit buggy.

Yeah, hopefully I get a bit of time this week to get some OBEY time in.

Oh, and I only try and keep the Santa part secret until the present is received.  Then I don't mind revealing :)
Glad you like everything Black Tiger!
