Yeah I know, a "grey and brown military shooter" thread.
Whatever, the 7th gen was a revolution for FPS games, even on the Wii.
List your favorites, and recommend some games!
My List
Portal 1+2
Gears of War trilogy
Call of Duty Black Ops
Call of Duty 4
Red Steel 2
Halo Anniversary

My kids and I still have fun playing around with Perfect Dark Zero co-op missions. I like the look and feel of the game for some reason. :)

Can't remember the last time i played (and enjoyed) a modern FPS but i do have a soft spot for Call of Duty 4. The online for that game was a lot of fun with my friends and I. Especially doing private matches and playing our own, made up games.
Then the next Call of Duty game came out and i realized they were never the same. (well they were, but you know what i mean)

Ever play Titanfall? That game is amazing.
And it is on 360, but idk how the playerbase is.

I didn't know Titanfall was on the 360. It looked interesting!
But the thing with those games for me is, it would probably be more frustrating than fun as I'm not very good at FPS shooters. The 12 year olds kick my butt.

Doom 2 for X360 Live Arcade. The new exclusive episode it includes is fantastic. A must play.

Bioshock
-
Portal all the way.

I'll admit it... I play Call of Doody with friends.... of the ones I've played (Black Ops, MW3, Blops2 and Ghosts) I want to say I enjoyed Black Ops 2 the most. I never played the single player on any of them, just online multiplayer with friends. I just liked some of the maps in BlOps2 (Carrier, Raid and Hijacked were my favorites)
The hardest part was making the transition to PS4 and using a controller ( I used one of those crazy mouse / keyboard controllers for PS3) Shooters will always be better with a mouse / keyboard though.
Other notable mentions.... I did like Crysis on PC and I played some Borderlands but it got a little repetitive after a while. If we can go a little older... my friends and I used to have LAN parties and play Quake 3 Arena and a Q3A mod called Urban Terror. You can still download urban terror as a stand alone game.

Portal 2 when it comes to strategy puzzle style
COD Ghosts
COD MW3

There are generations to FPS games on PC?
Does EZQuake, count as 7th gen? I play that, sometimes.
Same goes for Zandronum, DOOM.
-
Beemer, there is a way to play with Mouse/Keyboard on PS4 now too.
-
Oh really? Hmmm... That might be worth looking into. Though I have learned to use the controller its still a little clunky.

I don't think anyone mentioned Resistance, which to me is not only the best FPS on the PS3 or 360, but it is by a large margin.
-
Resistance was a good romp for sure. Back in 06 it was definitely pretty too.
Crysis on PC and the Mass Effect games were also fantastic.

When I mentioned Resistance, I was referring to the series as a whole. PArts two and three just got better and better. Poor sales means there likely will be no more Resistance games, which is a real shame.

If they put the series on PS Now, it could get some new life.
What's the series like? Anything it can be compared to? Keep in mind I haven't played other Sony shooters like Killzone.

It kind of reminds me of Half-Life in that the story is told via interaction with the environment (radios, etc) and there are creative weapons with cool alternate fire (Ratchet and Clank-esque, but without the humor). There is a good assortment of aliens and the boss fights are pretty epic. Before they servers went down, the co-op online play was also awesome.
My top 5 PS3 games includes all three of these games and I would say they are my favorite games of the generation as a whole. If only one of you plays them because of my recommendation, that will still make me a happy man!

the only ones I really like are unreal tournament 3, cod world at war, black ops, black ops 2 and modern warfare 3
unreal cuz its a crazy but fun fps
world at war, black ops 1 and 2 due to great story line and zombies!
modern warfare 3 due to survival mode which is similar to zombies but against soldiers, juggernauts, and choppers
-
If you can get a couple of buddies together, I highly recommend Left 4 Dead 2. 4-player co-op zombie-killing madness!
I've been playing some Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon lately and that's been a hoot. It's a total throwback to 80's action flicks.
I've been playing those on my PC, but I imagine they are also available for PS3 and Xbox 360.
-
Fallout 3 and Farcry 3 though I love Fallout 3 much more than Farcry . I'm just not that into fpses as they all start looking more and more a like.

I have to say Lollipop Chainsaw. It has been the most fun I've had from a 7th gen game. It is so over the top and the game is so much fun to play. It is also the last game from this gen that I have put any time or effort into playing. Kinda sad
