Title: Shameless plug for J-Pop that I like
Post by: sunteam_paul on June 30, 2006, 06:05:46 AM
I love Puffy (known as Puffy Amiyumi in America) and as they have a new album out I just wanted to give them a mention here.

http://www.myspace.com/wearepuffyamiyumi

I hopefully softened a few of you up to J-pop with the latest Podcast so go check them out. They're awesome (and cute)

I have to say the dialogue for your "guest" DJ was just hillarious! Let's review:

"I love dancing! Judo is alot like dancing, but it hurts more."

"I like bubblegum... I like strawberry.... it's like a big hug in my mouth."

"What do you mean my voice is annoying?"

"I have pretty shoes..."

What were you on when you came up with this? All I can say is it's brilliant in a sort of scary way!

I love listening to J-Pop. My mp3 player has loads of it and most of the tunes are from the Animes that I watch. I'm sort of embarrassed by it though. You only see me listening to it with my headphones on, or if I'm in my car I'll have the windows up.

Don't hide your true feelings, roll down the window, crank it up, and rock it with pride!

I like JPop too!   I haven't bought much recently.  Been thinking of buying stuff on iTunes, but never got around to figuring that out.

Recently, I've been listening to Utada Hikaru and BoA.  But I listen to a lot more like:
ELT
The Yellow Monkey
Hamasaki Ayumi
etc, etc. :)

My personal favourites are:

Puffy
(Yum-chan looks sooo young in this one).

Aikawa Nanase

and Megumi Hayashibara (she of many anime character voices like Ranma). (This one is fan-edited to anime clips)

All well worth checking out.

And of course the really bubblegummy j-pop like Morning Musume is just irrestistible. Happy Summer Wedding and Love Machine are my favourites.

Yay, a JPOP thread :)

I'm a long-time old-school JPOP fan - my all-time most enjoyable artists are as follows (with links to my favorite vids)

Namie Amuro
She was the "queen" of JPOP before Ayumi Hamasaki came around

Ayumi Hamaski
Currently my all-time favorite JPOP artist.  Her videos influence my video related productions a lot.

MAX
Another old-school group...4 mega-hot girls who know how to dance well.  Their early stuff was mostly dance/techno music, then they turned more popish. (the song is called LOVE SCREW....lol)

Globe
Old-school again.  These guys have been around forever.  They have a more trance kind of sound most of the time. (old PV of "Faces Places")

Koda Kumi
Holy $&*(.......what can I say.  She makes me have very naughty thoughts.....constantly.  Just watch her video...(not safe for work..maybe?)

Ok if you liked that one, this one really isn't safe for work :P  What a lucky champagne bottle! :O  She's really pushing it I think....

Hitomi
More old-school goodness.  She is still around and her sound is as good as ever.  She's gotten more sexy over the years, but not slutty like Koda.

Morning Musume
For the longest time I didn't want to get into MM because if I ever did I knew I'd be hooked by their cuteness....but after watching the entire Morning Musume "English Lessions" series I was hooked..I'm sure you can find plenty of stuff on youtube for them.

W (aka "double U")
A sub-set group from Morning Musume, two members branched off and made this group.  I love their sound and the songs are crazy catchy.  The PVs are also very well done really showing off how cute these girls are....just watch this one:

Ok that should be enough for now :)

I'm more of a J-Rock/J-Metal kind of guy, but I did start with Hamasaki Ayumi's Loveppears.

I don't care for j-idol pop but for some reason it seems to make me aroused for some reason, but only if it is a woman singing -- sorry to get your hopes up T2KFreeker, I know I can be a tease sometimes. ;)

merriman_bk

PS - <3 japanese girls, ugh I don't even watch enough anime to be comfortable saying that. =o!

The only good japanese music is their punk and some of the metal, the rest sucks worse than american pop.

Wow. Japanese Christina Agiulera. Why listen to/look at the exact same thing only it's Japanese, and worse. I don't see the point.  :P

Whose a Japanese Christina Agiulera?  Or is Christina Agiulera an American Hamasaki Ayumi?  What comes around goes around.  Nobody is original.  In the pop world they are all driven by producers.

I'm fond of Sonim, myself. Though my 'first time' was with Ayumi Hamasaki.

The guy who corrupted... err, introduced me to Jpop has a board about that sort of thing. http://gomorning.com/ if you don't mind my pluggage.

SACRILEGE!  I don't see any resemblance to Agiulera at all....in fact there is nobody in US pop today that even remotely reminds me of Ayu.  Japanese artists on the other hand, have been trying to "take down" Ayu for a long time with knock-off artists that were not even 1/2 as good.

Utada Hikaru can kick your butt at tetris.

J-pop songstress who wears glasses and is a gamer? she pushes all my buttons.

Pcenginefx, my comment was meant to be sarcastic.  I was making fun of how people are saying, "Oh so and so is a Japanese (insert western famous person's name here)".  I hope you guys understand my point.  I like to twist my thoughts.  If you read my statements quickly then you will get the wrong idea, but if you read it slowly and between the lines then you will see my point.
