Title: Eternal City thread
Post by: lukester on January 04, 2015, 10:19:01 AM
There is basically no information on this game at all. Only a two sentence review and some history on Video Game Den.

http://videogameden.com/hucard.htm

From what I've played, it seems like a fun Thexder type game. Probably the closest the PCE has to Metroid.

Lot of power-ups, flying, decent graphics and atmosphere.

Has anybody here played the whole game and would like to say stuff about it?

Well, there is a *little* bit of information about Eternal City out there:

(Admittedly, I spend most of the time discussing the fact that Masamune Shirow worked on both ETERNAL CITY and LORDS OF THUNDER).

I recently acquired Eternal City. I think I've only gotten to the end of the 2nd stage...or beginning of the 3rd. The map starts to get large, and the "Metroid" feel comes in. It's hard to avoid enemy shots and the jumping mechanic is clunky(albeit, you do play a mech) so it has not been go-to game with I want to obey.

I saw some stage maps on-line when looking for cheats. Those would be very helpful since the background graphics do repeat and you may get lost on the later levels.

Ahem, you all should check the cover.

It clearly says:

ETRNAL CITY

I love Metroid, but I haven't given this one the time of day yet...given its affordability, I shall have to rectify this.

YES! One reason I snagged it at a con last year. It's nice to find non-gouger obey in the wild. I would not go in thinking Metroid...but more shades of it. I'd hate for you to be disappoint.

This is one of my favorite games on the system.

It's a shame they didn't like, make another.

An unforgiving Naxat action Platformer, consider me down like a clown...

here is a video, don't watch too far if you don't want to get all spoiled.

Oh and just because it does say "password" it does save to the file cabinet, just a heads up.

Sorry for reviving this, but has anyone actually played through this game completely?  I've fought maybe about 4 bosses over 3 or so areas, but once you get to the third I'm thinking the game wants you to backtrack at that point, but I'm not sure where.  Halp?

I played some E.City last night. Got to stage 4 and then started mapping. The level design can be confusing. Before that, I did back track to level 1 to acquire a weapon and prolly some shield tanks. I did discover a new slide upgrade along with hover pack "B", which both make progressing through the boring corridors less tedious. I plan to continue more since it seems rather easy game.

It reminds me of Cadash some.

I'm so dumb. After attempting to map some of the levels, I opened the manual to see if I had all the weapons and right on page 2 is le map. I guess for those with loose copies, I'll share:

I've used this map extensively, but I think I'm going to save this picture anyway so I can zoom in on it with my phone & not have to hold the manual inches from my blind eyeballs.

Even so, it's not entirely clear where you're supposed to go all the time.  I want to watch that series of playthrough videos on YouTube but it's really hard to follow thanks to the repetitive backgrounds.  Let's hope someone gets a translation together soon!

I got stuck on stage 7. The map is not fully flushed out for that area in the manual. Apparently, I missed a security zone and the last door will not open ("[moon runes something] 14"). The thought of back tracking is not fun and I feel I got my moneys worth. This one is going on the chopping block soon.

I might pick up this game but the levels feel a bit barren.  I am surprised no one mentioned the music on the first level is also present in Coryoon.

Oooh , I gotta compare them now!
