Title: People with Amiiboners...
Post by: xelement5x on January 07, 2015, 03:36:08 AM
Seriously what is the deal with these things.  It seems like they are Skylanders/Disney Infinity but with people going crackhead crazy over them.

I saw a couple defect ones have gone for thousands of dollars, and people are regularly paying like 5X time the retail price for some of them on ebay.

On a couple local Faceboook gaming groups I follow like half of it is filled up with Amiibo talk, and I regularly see people going to stores and completely buying out the stock, it's insane.

Does anyone here collect these?  I was going to buy the Xenoblade one but apparently preorders for it were sold out like over a month before release.

I want Pit and Little Mac.

There's not a lot of Kid Icarus or Punch-Out merchandise and they'd just be cool to have.

I am so happy I am not interested in these things.  They seem way to stressful to collect for a hobby that is supposed to be FUN.

I selectively pre-order a few Amiibos from each wave, so I'm not involved in the madness.

The fervor for 'em seems almost entirely fueled by flippers.  How sad.

It seems like something that oils have been fun if supply was available.

I had honestly though to wait for when they do clearance or boy one get one half off or free before getting any. And they would only be used or adorn my desk or TV area. But with how the one I want are either hard to get sold out unavailable or simply to much of a hassle to get into I desided to walk away from it as a whole.

I have no interest.

They cost $12 (at least...), have really crappy value, and they aren't even posable.

Fun Fact: Toys for Bob originally offered Nintendo Skylanders exclusitivity.

That article is oddly prescient.  Here's an interesting quote from it:
Quote
This leads many to wonder how Nintendo might benefit from a toy-driven game at retail. With Nintendo's massive library of game stars, it's not too hard to imagine a crossover of Super Smash Bros.-esque proportions driving collectors and children out of their dollars. Pokémon is another example, with Rumble U representing early experimentation — Nintendo has also talked up the role that the Wii U GamePad's NFC reader will have at E3 this year, which is the same technology as used in the Skylander portal.

Too funny....I was just gonna post something similar, like WTF are these Amiibonerz and why does everyone have a hardo-on for them all of a sudden?

Shortly after their release it was stated by someone at Nintendo(can't remember who) that some of the less popular characters wouldn't get a second production run. This lead reseller types to run out and buy them and collectard type to lose their shit and pay crazy amounts of money for a piece of plastic that could easily be made by Nintendo if real actual demand existed. Too bad Bonk isn't in Super Smash Bro's, he would make a great addition, Zonk as an alternate costume.

I had to look these up, as I had no idea what these are. I skimmed through, and they seem to be statues that you do something with in games? I had something like that in the late 80s, early 90s from Nintendo. They were called, "Trophies", and had different game scenes, and a decal on them, where I was to ink my high score, and date of. They were, I think, sold as, "Trophies". They didn't communicate with games, though.

Medic,

There were lots of different ones. I had them for Mario, mostly. They were almost, "Forever" in ToysRUs' video game aisle clearance. I still have the once of Mario escaping the squid, somewhere.

Also had scenes from Zelda and Punch-Out, never had neither of those game's trophies, though.

I preordered the Sonic and Megaman ones from wallyworld (being fan of both). Who knows, one of them may be missing a leg or some crazy ass shit and I'll be able to retire.

Lol, a legless Sonic would be hilarious on so many levels.

Lol... when I think of Nintendo, I instantly think of Mario, so that creates some ugly images in my brain that I would love very much to un-see.

Oh, and I have zero interest in Amiibos. Although the name makes me think of Samba de Amigo. So, uh...  that's pretty cool, I guess.

Maracas!

Almost seems like nintendo should just bundle exclusive figures with the U console if they want to boost sales. I guarantee thats in the distribution pipeline.

Nintendo, enough said.

Figurines are cool and stuffies but I will never understand why you would pay out the ass for these things unless you're flipping for profit or something. Collectards.  :-k

More importantly, do the people who buy these things store them on shelves with pride?  For everyone to see?

Hmm...somehow I'd have reservations about that.

the little mac one is one I've been trying to get but I've given up on buying them for normal price...  Anyway I got hooked on them at first but after a while I decided to stop.

Man now if Nintendo makes a bonk, Ripple or Bomberman amiibo. I would be paying a bit for them!

BK and BT are still enjoyable even on Xbox 360 with stop n swop enabled.
