Title: CD-ROM ticking issue after Laser Swap
Post by: besthegreat on January 29, 2015, 12:15:28 PM
My TG Cdrom unit stopped working right after I beat YS3.  The CD stopped spinning, I found the small flex cable torn.  I attempted to fix but to no available.  I performed a laser swap but my laser keeps going all the way to the center and clicks ticking.  The CD spins but it doesn't start reading the track.  Is this a bad laser?  It seems like some mechanism is preventing it from kicking in.  Has anyone experienced this and were you able to find a way to resolve?  I was able to re tread the large gear with sculpting puddy (green stuff) as it was damaged.  The gears turn fine.   I feel like I'm so close but I just can't figure it out this last part.  I did calibrate the large flex cable by severing the solder and ensuring continuity.  :-k  Has anyone experience this before?

Seems to be a pot adjustment issue.  Still trying to get it right.

From what I understand, if the disc spins, the laser detected the disc. Its sounds like the gear may still have a problem.
