Title: Holy WTF Pulseman

Yeah it's ebay but damn those prices are 4 to 5 times what it was a year or two ago.  I believe I sold my copy with registration card for $45.  I was thinking of buying it back, but now I bet elsewhere is following suit of rediculous ebay BIN's.  Is this the new "fad" mega rare megadrive game?

Slimy a$$holes trying to sell their repros for the price of a real JP cart. These f*ckers deserve a beating with a metal bat.

Yeah, the MD kind of bombed in Japan.  All the late releases for it had low print runs and are getting pretty scarce.  Also see: Rockman Mega World, Alien Soldier, Twinkle Tale, and even stuff that's common in the US like Hard Corps and Comix Zone.

I also slept on Pulseman and regret it =[

That seems to be the case with japan only release for the a MD.Few times i wanted to buy a original copy of pulseman, but i put it off at this point i would just settle for a reproduction instead.

Blame Europe
Word.  Even ebay prices in 2013 for pulseman were in the 50-60 range.  I put it also on the uneducated (again) and all the repro a$$holes making it look like a rare title.  People also need to learn late releases doesn't always mean rare / low print run.

You know, I used to think that the folks who paid $$$$$$ for rare Atari carts were crazy (back 10-15 years ago).

But, to be honest, those Atari folks weren't nearly as batsh@t insane as the folks now, who are are (1) less knowledgable and thus (2) more easily manipulated and duped.

Or, maybe I'm wrong and goofy Atari collectors were at the forefront of everything that we see today.

Anyway.... I still enjoy my library of 2600 carts.

Not just MD but U.S. Genesis stuff, specifically CIB items, have been spiking recently.  This has me worried that a I won't be able to afford Genesis stuff in the near future.  Needless to say, I have been trying to nab up every CIB Genesis game on my want list recently.

Traditionally Europeans have always been willing to pay more, mostly due to ignorance.  These days however with the Yen so low compared to the Euro and Pound, prices have never been better for them.  Hence they are hoarding like crazy, anything remotely uncommon is getting bought out.  They then tend to keep the price high as when they sell, they like to include the import tariffs they paid in their prices.  Just look at any European heavy forum like schumps, all the Euro people have WTB threads in USD, but their for sale threads in Euros.  Nickel and dimming to the max.

That is crazy.  I wound up buying Pulseman, Twinkle Tale, Alien Soldier, and Eliminate Down many many years ago before this madness.  Glad I did I now, as it's like like a lot of those JP Mega Drive games are becoming untouchable at this point.

I wonder if they're any cheaper if you find them on Yahoo Japan auctions?  I used to browse that site looking for cheapo transforming robot toys, but never for video games.

Not really by much.  Most folks use proxy buyers or other methods to buy the stuff now.

I've never bought a Genesis repro from UncleTusk, but I bought some of the Virtual Boy repros he made and the quality is top notch.  I would assume that translates to his Genesis stuff as well but I can't personally say.  I think he is also a regular on NintendoAge if you want to ask him specific questions before purchasing.

I have also seen the price spikes with 16 & 8 bit games only in the past two years.  It is bad enough that I am beginning to think the collecting part of my/our hobby is quickly coming to an end.  I bought Elemental Master complete for below $50 this time last year.  Great game, but now look at it!  It's on the way to triple digits, easily.  In the same search, I see a Genesis shooter collection of six games that has just crossed the $500 mark. Yesh!

Last week an old co-worker told me he just bought a Retron 5 and "happily" spent $40 on a loose Toejam and Earl cart.  No wonder prices are going up.  Uh oh.

Even $50 seems expensive for Elemental Master... I got mine for $10 complete at a game store 4 years ago

Around here the game stores use price charting which is BS. I wish that site would go away. There's really no good deals to be had anymore unless you get lucky at a flea market or yard sale. Hell even goodwill is funneling their gaming goods to their own auction site, and retro game stores.

Yeah pricecharting is a mixed blessing.  It's nice to have an idea what something is worth, but I'm pretty sure it is contributing to gradual rise in the value of games in general.  The fact that the site is run by a person who is a professional collector and reseller is a bit of conflict of interest I feel.

Yarr, there's far too many peeps that look at the highest price something sold for and using that as the baseline for value.

There must be a lot of research backing up this affirmation.

Let me guess...Software Seconds!  That place went to shit years ago.  It was the place I used to get import games in the mid 90's to late 2000's.  Even bought my import Dreamcast there 2 weeks after launch.  Was only $350 with Sonic Adventure and Virtua Fighter 3tb.  Was a sweet deal for that time.  Now he still has shit that has never sold since I was in college.  Most of the time you have to ask about prices, then he goes to his little computer and looks up a price.  LOL I bought Alien Soldier from him for $15 back in 2006.  That was before all the price charting.  Mike used to be the owner but he let the mustache guy basically take it over for the past 8 years or so.  Apparently there is another game store on Harbison Blvd?  I heard it was a bit better.  What is the name of the place?

Being european i would say the problem europe has had from the 8 bit days upto now is that there is a lot of games/systems that were never released here or are of a low print run, different countrys in europe had exclusives over others its a complete mess here. Nintendo were really bad for it but all are guilty of it.

European gamers create a knock on effect because pal games can be very expensive (ebay a snes pal cib megaman x3 for example) so myself for example will look elsewhere for a copy and if they see a saving they will buy it because its cheaper than the pal copy even though they could still be paying much more than the game is worth. Thats where the knock on begins.

I used to live there in Irmo/Columbia.  My parents are still there in Quail Valley subdivision and my brother is in Chapin.  I haven't lived in Columbia for over 12 years.  It has also been a while since I visited there.  Probably over 2 years.  I am currently in Raleigh, NC
