Bored at work. So I'm wondering what every one else does for a job/career. How do you make those fat stacks?
Me, my actual title is Print Specialist. I buy printed materials, do some graphic design work, am getting into account management and pretty much any other thing that needs to be done. I work for a small agency and we are contracted to one large corporation. I actually have an office in that corporations building. I am hoping one day that corporation will offer me a job. As much as I hate the corporate world, I would rather have a job with them then with the agency I am at due to the unstableness of the agency.
I enjoy my job. I am really good at it. I like the challenges from time to time. I get to sit at a desk, listen to my music on my computer and close my office door. What more could I ask for? I get paid pretty decently for this area. And I get 5 weeks of vacation. Not a lot to complain about.
So how about you all? What do you do to afford fantastic TG16 games?
-
Im a master of the custodial arts
-
I crush my own soul.
I work lots of overtime.
I never have vacation.

I had a job like that once.

Even though I'm talking shit in most threads, this time I'll try to remain serious.
I'm a pimp.
Just kidding. I'm working in an engineering office and design facades for buildings. Lots of glass, steel and aluminium involved. Usually I sit at the desk using AutoCAD, but every now and then I'll pay our sites a visit and help the mechanics with the installation. Fun, fun, fun.

Middle management with a supplementary benefits provider in Alberta. My work life is straight out of Office Space.

I run robot hell.

That sounds like it could be fairly interesting.

So you often get a case of the Mondays?

I kill lots of people. Sometimes I get paid for it.

Actually, I think I work for the same company as mitsuman with almost the same position. You might want to look at the contract, mine states that my customer company absolutely can not hire any of the contracted employees. They couldn't give me a job if they wanted to.
-
I travel a lot and talk about financial algorithms. I know it sounds super exciting, but it's usually not.

This time of year I'm doing shit like this.

In the summer I'm fixing those air conditioner thingys.

I'm a software engineer in the health insurance industry. Thanks Obama!

I work in the abuse dept for a business ISP. Ironically, they use me more for graphic art stuff then they do for the job they actually hired me for.... But, I get to post here while at work so all is well :D

A couple years ago I talked to the person I would work under. She said the contract would not be an issue. And as for the contract on our side, there is nothing stopping me. The owner and my boss both have told me they keep expecting to get offered a job from our client company.
And you buy print too? What area of the U.S. are you in? Just wondering if we use the same printers. LOL

I work at a chemical plant

I work for the queen. Not a joke.

Since December 2013, I have been working for a large Japanese cram school company, and I'm the only foreigner among its 1600+ employees. Most of my time is spent preparing to teach the CEO, who is crazy smart and takes a 90 minute daily private English lesson, as well as the three executive directors. Also, I try to support the core English teachers and prepare them for big changes in the way English is taught in Japan.
The company is very progressive and has big plans for its English department, which is a nice opportunity for me, but I have to work six days a week, and that blows considerably.
-
I piss of my wife with my OBEY.
I also work for the state of Texas as a vocational rehabilitative counselor for the department of assistive and rehabilitative services under the division of health and human services.
Blah blah blah.
-
I'm a fairly ordinary corporate drone working for a large mega-corp.
-
I work as an Electronics Associate at Wal-Mart in West Lebanon, NH. In my downtime from that, I code obey for Eponasoft and also work on a fashion upstart where I make my own clothing.

I teach college kids so I can justify getting paid for doing research.
Oh really.
College or university level?
Got tenure?
Should we call you PhD. O.pwuaioc?

I clean carpets, floor tiles, & woodfloors with my dad. He's getting up there in age, not sure what'll happen. I mainly have a lot of problems with social anxiety, & dealing with customers...well, yeah. Some are pretty easy, but some are demanding, arrogant, & like to stare at me while I work. What happens then? I can't concentrate on my work, because I can physically FEEL their eyes starting at me. What's funny, is that I feel like I'd have no problem if they were watching me on camera, but, with them physically there.... :/ I also have a hard time in general talking to people on the phone, & have unreasonable anxiety(as if any of my anxiety is reasonable) in thinking that I'll say something stupid, or be misunderstood. In any case, I'll just see what happens & wing it.
Also, partially due to my lack of self confidence to run the business(but also to help pay the bills), I work for my brother at a warehouse down the street from me. He buy re-furbished diapers & syringes & sells them for profit, & I catalogue said diapers & syringes, oh, & sometimes re-furbished condoms. Seriously though, he buys & resells electronics, toners, etc. Random stuff. So far, I just try to find time(& energy) to do some inventory atleast a couple times a week after my regular job, usually on Wednesday nights & Saturday afternoons. I basically just go thru stuff he has ready for me, look for part #'s(if there are any) or any other kind of markings, write them down, take various pics, weigh them, & put them up on shelves. If VERY boring, but, I don't have anyone I have to deal with looking over my shoulder. Actually, it does get lonely there, especially when I'm there late at night. :/

My wife got a degree or whatever for AutoCAD at ITT. It sounds like you do, what she used to do. When we were dating, she working for Western Pacific Industrial Structures, & making decent money, but they moved down south & the trek got to be a bit much for her. She ended up at Home Depot for a while designing kitchens & did that for several different places using AutoCAD. Nowadays she doesn't use it as much, but she works at Lynda.com & re-arranges offices there, & does hospitality & stuff. It's a long, but nice drive there, decent pay, & (thankfully) they have good health insurance.

Man, anxiety and paranoia are a bitch. Last year I finally decided to get help and went on some meds to help control mine, along with some other issues I was dealing with.
Good luck with all that.

Not yet, no. I'm actually still finishing the dissertation.
I may enter a PhD program for Clinical Psy in 2016 depending on ability to afford it after our first year being new parents and keeping my full time job.

im a housekeeping delivery boy. I basically deliver items to hotel guests such as towels, amenities, blankets, pillows, beds, fridges, etc. I also maintain and organize runner lockers and storage lockers. when its slow, I either fold towels or make rollaway beds.
-
One more teacher here.
Been working in the same school with aggressive morons for too many years.
I suppose that's why I like beat'm'ups and shmups so much. Hope I'll get a transfer to a
civilized area soon...

Do you work for one of the bigger chains?

Currently I work in a small manufacturing company that produces very high end circuit boards. Its all pretty much aerospace and military stuff. This stuff makes a Duo board seem ridiculously simple. I cant go into details since its all classified stuff. Our customers are companies like Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Exelis etc. My specific job is assembling layers of printed circuits with layers of insulating materials to be pressed together.
Starting in fall again I should be back in college to finally finish a degree in mechanical engineering. Beyond that I want to get into alternative energy research and hopefully work for this place...

When I retire I'd like to teach at the college level...
Before all this I was a BMW mechanic for about 8 years. Screw working on cars tho.

Hehe chains! so good... who needs chains when you got hotel/casinos. Although, there is a four seasons at the end of the main strip guess that counts as a chain.

Fixed that for ya.
Also, you understand there are hotels in America that are outside vegas, right? I'm not talkin no courtyard, four seasons, or howard Johnson here. I thank god every day that my work doesn't have a call center anywhere near the strip in vegas.

goverrats!

You do understand you asked cubano (that lives in here in vegas) or home of the "walk-in toilet" as you call it, that question?

I'm docking you -2 cool points for 1) being a shameless signature stealer, and 2) not even duophiling. If you're going to jump on the DoxPhile hate train to fit in with the cool kids, that's one thing... but your actions here seem counterproductive. :P
One may only talk about the loneliness of DoxPhile once one experiences the true solitude that is the chatroom. :)

I went to your site quite a few times to check out the egm scans. But then there was nothing else to do. Noone else even on except yahoo[bot] and i'm not sure if that was a real person or what...So no hate here, just find it hilarious how much everyone talks about it vs posts on it (so yeah i gotta tease ya). The sig was actually his personal text, not a sig, but it was soo damn good i had to make it a sig. Besides i seem to recall you loving it when i made it:
best. Sig. Ever.

I've worked in software development primarily in modeling and simulation of attacks on physical security systems for the past decade. Sadly things have gone from pretty bad to desperate at the company I've been with since college. :( In the past couple weeks we lost the majority of our workforce to layoffs and "involuntary furlough". I don't think this job will last another couple months, so I'm on the hunt. Evo or whoever was looking forward to taking advantage of people in a shitty situation, stand by.

oh very nice! not everyone tips. just depends on the crowd. chinese and indians never tip! when they do, its once in a blue moon. honestly, i cant say an amount that is acceptable. for me anything is better than nothing. i always try to tip when i go out to restaurants or stay at hotels. i usually tip anywhere from 3 to 5 bucks. i work for the mgm corporation

Man, anxiety and paranoia are a bitch. Last year I finally decided to get help and went on some meds to help control mine, along with some other issues I was dealing with.
Good luck with all that.
I've been on meds for almost 20 years. Sometimes they help, sometimes they don't. I've been switched around to different ones for depression & anxiety. I'm now getting tired of my back n' forth of them working. I'd like to get off meds, partly due to not wanting to sacrifice my body, so I can be sort of sane. They have to check various things once a year, I think the liver is the main one that these meds tend to attack & both my brother & I get regular blood tests to see how our organs are doing(though, he's managed to stay on Prozac all these years).
My wife got off meds recently, & has been on them for 20+ years after something someone did to her that really messed her up. She's doing ok, but, as expected, has withdrawl & detox symptoms. She's been doing more aroma therapy with essential oils, seems to be really helping her, but, getting off meds is a loooooong road. I hope someday I can do it, as even now with all my meds I still get hot flashes, my throat tightens up & hurts like hell, or sometimes it's my chest, heart palpitations, etc. It makes earning a living & being the man of the house & being a responsible adult annoying, but I ain't giving up. I just keep fighting, keep doing research, keep trying new things to try to keep me calm.

Specifically on energy management systems or do you hold tarded service peoples' hands through simple diagnostics because they can't read a wiring schematic for a piece of equipment?

I am at the purchasing/logistics department for an ophthalmic device company, I am also the connection between my S&R department and the main office in Netherlands when help is needed (request RMA, questions such as partnumbers, etc).
It's not a boring spot since everything is "urgent! ship now!".

I don't envy your job. I can think of one time I had to call a manufacturer's tech line (on a Mitsubishi Mini-Split) for a weird problem but I usually take pride in figuring out the problem on my own. I will say that, at least in my area, I run into some major dummy service techs at the local supply houses. I wonder how some of these guys even hold a job in this industry.

I wonder the same thing also, I had a few guys ask where the disconnect was located, and what a freezestat was. And I have to deal with this everyday

I repair/work on turbo/PCE full time when I get home and work part time as a manufacturing engineer at an aircraft co.

sales rep for a vw parts manufacturer, get to be around cars ....although vw, whatever. but i spend 90 perecent of my time on a computer in my office with no one watching....so the shitty pay is not that bad! LOL.

Overnight Manager at Walgreen's. It's pretty boring most of the time.

Data development and research. Developing tools, generating reports and troubleshooting issues regarding public school's, their financial histories, classes and students history. Early warning indicators, test results, race/ethnicity and attendance has been pretty much my professional life for the last 7 months and for much of the foreseeable future.
That's what I get for working for a consulting firm. :)
When I'm not at work I'm taking care of my kids, keep our home intact and OBEY when I get a spare minute. :)

But then he does not do a kick ass youtube video game show. So at least you have that going for you!

Besides that, the simulation industry is huge for the military. It's every 3rd party contract companies bread and butter working on Gov contracts. So many companies in the US do simulation now. It's fairly easy to find jobs with them wanting Artists using Unity, Unreal, hell even Cryengine for Serious Games.
-
Awesome, Unreal and Cry I am familiar with for personal work, and I've worked a lot with Unity at my last job where we used it to ship a big budget IOS game for Zynga. Thanks for the info, the investigation begins!

I do primarily data-warehouse development - tons of SQL, SSIS and C# code. With the occasional foray into Tableau/SSRS/whatever-flavor-of-the-month-reporting-tool-client-wants.

sounds a lot like me, man. I've been in biometric forensics software most of my adult life, but things are looking shaky. Interviewing with a railroad company next week. Anywho, if things go to shit, sell me your rarez for cheap. f*ck that evo guy!
This man is obsessed with ME! That wasn't even provoked! Sorry to hear about the job situation but maybe if you spend less time obsessing about me and running a failed website you could focus more on your career hmmmm?
As mentioned before I work for a Defense Contractor as a Financial Analyst down in Virginia. We help support the on going operations in Afghanistan and Iraq in terms of men, logistics, technology, communications. I simply handle the Government contracts financially and source outside contractors. It's as boring as it sounds.
