MGC is fastly approaching!! We will once again be holding our very own little TurboFest in our very own little area!  We'll have 6-8 TVs with open gaming running all weekend.

If you're coming to the show be sure to stop by and say 'hello'!

If you're coming to the show and would like to ACTUALLY HELP OUT we could use a couple CRT TVs for gaming on and if you have a Turbo/PCE system you'd like to share with others we could use those too!

If you are interested in helping out, simply reply to this thread saying so, Pm me or check out our FB page for the TurboFest- Tour

We're really looking forward to another awesome weekend!

Keep an eye out for more TurboFest events coming later in the year as well!!

I'm driving up again as well.  Last year I brought my 27" and TG16/CD setup.  I can do that again if you could use it, though I may try to find a smaller TV to haul up.  That 27"er is heavier than it ought to be. :)  I'll also be bringing up my PCE briefcase setup (chopper is going to help me repair a drive) and I'll have my Express which has a larger screen, controller port, region mod, and av out (though the av out is a bit wonky right now).

I'll also have the homebrew stuff handy as well (Atlantean, Protocade, all the cd-based stuff).

I wasn't planning on lugging up the TV and TG16/CD setup, but would be more than happy if you need them. :)

I'm not worried.

Thank you ROLFYMAYO, we'll get a better idea of how many people are coming and helping out with bringing consoles and TVs in probably another month.  If we're short any CRT TVs I'll be able to bring those.  I think we're hoping for around 8 for the room.  :D

[ul][li]Sony 20" PVM[/li][li]27" CRT[/li][/ul]
Excellent!  Those will be perfect for some SNES and CDi gamin'!!

ALSO... I've ordered bulk quantities of DoxPhile hats, mouse pads, coffee mugs, and ink pens. Anyone who feeds me a beer gets one FREEEEEEEE

I'm actually interested in a DoxPhile coffee mug!!

Thanks guys!!

I'll only have 11 of these bad boys to hand out, but i'll make sure you get one. :D

I want to go just for the mug.

But honestly, I'm working on my trip. Hopefully I can carpool with some local friends of mine who are nintendorks but gamers nonetheless. I hope I can coax them into staying in the Turbo room and where the conversion will take place. :)

I doubt I'll have very much money to spend on the vendors, but it sounded like I wouldn't really be finding many deals anyway. The Turbo room is the main draw for me!

Not that anyone knows who I am since I never post here, but I'll be at MGC and will at least stop in and say hi. I probably should have done that in previous years, but I usually end up hanging out with the people I know all weekend (Retroids/VGEvo room) and miss everything else.

I *may* make this. If someone confirms that a Big Lebowski pin will be there the chances of me going will double.

My PVM is currently dead (!) but I plan to fix it soon. If that happens I'll bring it, if not, I'll bring something lesser but still a tube.

I'm going to go to great lengths to make everyone think that a fight between you and I is going to break out for reals...

and up until the last moment you will be questioning whether or not I'm f*cking around.

and you won't know until the moment after that moment. Your mind will be pondering "oh shit... did I troll too hard? Fight or flight? Fuuuuck" up until the split second I either fart and laugh or snap-kick your balls (and laugh).

which will it be?

will.

I think 2014 was decent show.
you have to remember show organizers do have lives out side of running the show,so planing is delayed because of that.

yeah, from what I heard joe, sean and john are busy with museum and once they get the permanent museum running heard they want cge moved there.
the guys who ran it 2014, the retrogaming round up team, was saying that they might want to start their own like they did in 2010.
I know its a tough task to do, vgs'15 almost didn't get planned because we were getting too close.
since we lost heron point we had to look for a good location and one that suites our needs just glad we found one.
(if threw this topic off track sorry about that)

Great call on the closet; I can assure yo that will come in handy.

Also, I wonder... would we be able to hang posters and such? maybe using sticky putty or whatever?  I'd love to put some flyers, posters, and misc shit in poster frames to plaster the walls in shit to look at

I am clue free.  I just hang the banner outside of the room.  Mayhaps we can ask the hotel ladies where to put the posters?

DUBBLE POSTT-

Curious, do you guys think we should leave 1/2 or a full table in the room for Chop5 or Turbokon to do mods/fixes/crafting/stamp booking?  I think we tried that last year, but didn't leave a whole lot of space for them.

Then we'd never see Chop or Turbokon.  I'd vote for more space for them to work their magic so we can chit-chat with them.

We'll have to find out where Chop5 will be located for most of the weekend.  There's a chance he might be helping out at Cdamm's Windy Game Booth like he did at VGS.  If that's the case, then perhaps we'll just have a 1/2 table set for turbokon or others to tinker around with stuff.

Also, are there any PCFXers that cannot make it interested in doing a live skype cam/chat thing from TurboFest?  We had one up at MGC last year and it was fairly entertaining.  Will have to remember a decent mic/speaker system for my tablet.

Any other ideas ya chummers?

Josh, do you have a list of who is bringing what for both consoles and tvs?  I know I pledged many turbobs, but may want to leave some behind if enough people are bringing.

I think we're pretty much set on systems and games, we also look good on TVs but if we gain an extra one or two somewhere along the way, it'll be ok.

looks good, too bad jagfest might have presence this year at mgc, cost and other issues made me decide not to come. (if I took megabus I would have to downsize what I would like to bring, and that to me wouldn't be worth it for me(cost wise: rt megabus, cost of blueline cta,and shuttle plus hotel not worth value) instead I'll be work on vgs details more  as well as plans for an upcoming Atari week/ Atarimania event.

*reminder: VGS is all in one room this year this means tubofest is also in a room as well, cost of adding second room was too big to include*

I hope so!  Last I saw he was selling his wares/penis juice as a way to pay for his airfare.

It's not like the RAM carts work anyway unless the moon is in a perfect synchronization with the Sun's light just as a rainbow leads to a Leprechaun's treasure.

Damn Saturn cartridge slots.

I'm also looking to record a couple episodes of the hit podcast "huCast" during the show.  If anyone is looking to lend their voices for that, let me know.  I'm not sure on times/places yet, but sometime during the weekend would be fun!

Tell me more.

Somebody made a one-off music podcast (Joshua?) a few years ago.

Where is that? I want to listen to it again.

Yep, that was me.  We recorded a little bit at TurboFest last year in episode #3 using my cell phone in a loud and crowded room.  This year I want to try again, but using some actual mics/equipment at a quieter time in a room if possible.

Joshua, I was also thinking about bringing some video/audio recording equipment for lulz and I'd be happy to share any footage I take  with you. :)

So I'll be loading up the car tomorrow after work in preparation for Friday's long haul.  Does anyone have a spare tube TV they can bring for the TG16/CD setup I'm bringing?  I wasn't able to hunt down a smaller tube TV and I'm dreading lugging up the 27" I brought last year. I also remember people commenting on about how absurdly big it was compared to the other TVs in the room. :P

I'm so looking forward to this! Can't wait to see y'all again.

P.S. - This past weekend I found a dandy of a 19" tv at a nearby Salvation Army and thankfully asked to test it out before purchasing ($10). At first it wouldn't power on, but finally after about 10 power cycles the picture kicked in but it was all crazy psychedelic rainbows. Probably needed a good degaussing, but it didn't look like that was an option from the menu. :/ I also reached out to a few people over the past couple of weeks listing free TVs in Craigslist but none of them replied. Bugger.

I picked up a small (13" or so) white Trinitron recently off of Craigslist...it's only composite and mono audio but the picture is really nice. Pretty sure we have enough TVs for the main museum area so you can most likely use it for the weekend if that'll work. Let me know and I'll make sure to bring it.

I had a blast hanging out with everyone. Everything was very well organized as always. The turbo room had some very neat stuff. Josh brought his Legendary Axe Turbografx which looked so cool!! The pictures don't do it enough justice. It has to be seen to be really appreciated. :) I also really liked that turbo tap that had an emulator built in to play Turbografx games. That is really impressive!! Can't wait for the next event!

Seriously. You guys are the coolest bunch of cats I've known for ten years (+/-) but have never met.

The screens, systems, and attendance were great! Thanks to everyone for making the turbo room what it was: a serious presence at the show. I was amazed! Teh hardCAW cru was in force! (minus Tatsujin), but his gamesake was on (in his honor?) all day Saturday... whether nullity did that intentionally or unintentionally, I will never know.

I was able to bring Legend of Xanadu (WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!) and debut the debug mode on a tiny scanline Funai CRT for most of Saturday. That was like a dream come true. PLAY XANADU.

Thanks for a most amazing and memorable weekend, and thanks to _josh and everyone for letting me crash in the turbo room and vigilantly guard the precious!

Can't wait for next year!!

Just got home, with a little assistance from CDamm transporting 2 cars worth of gear. Completely wiped out but I can honestly say that this MGC is the best one I've been to. Setup and tear down was smooth, and we all got to eat dinner at a reasonable hour last night after packing up the museum area.

Great to meet Nullity and Blueraven in person for the first time - hope you guys had a blast!

My sympathies go out to Bartre, who lost a battle last night with a bottle of horrible, horrible whiskey.

For those of you who didn't hear - Galloping Ghost arcade brought their prototype board for Primal Rage II to the show for everyone to play (one of I believe two that exist on Earth). The game was in a dynamo cab, so the board rests close to the control panel. Some complete nob dumped their beer by accident into the CPO, which spilled on to the board and apparently caused it to reboot in a loop. They shut it down as soon as they saw it; cross your fingers that it didn't completely fry the board.

Good news - Doc from Galloping Ghost just posted on Facebook that the board is fine after some cleanup (and a lot of Facebook drama; go read the convo):

Quote
Doc Mack:
"The Incident" at MGC. We had been asked to bring Primal Rage II (one of only two know working boards in existence). It ran perfect until on Saturday, a careless gamer spilled beer on the glass and control panel, which ran into the cabinet and got on the arcade PCB. The game froze and reset several times before failing to turn back on completely. We did not witness it happen nor were we told immediately.

We spent MANY hours cleaning the board and now it seems to be 100% operational again back on the floor for everyone to enjoy.

At the arcade we have rules posted saying we DO NOT allow drinks on our machines obviously for just this reason. We ask that everyone please look at this incident and make sure that they are helping us take care of our machines. Also this only reiterates our no alcohol policy (it will NEVER happen here). Think about how many of these games that people have NOT been able to play for years because they stopped working and were pulled from arcade floors. A game not seen for 17 years is put back in front of everyone to play and it only takes one person to ruin it. So please help us police the arcade a bit. Let us know if you see someone with a drink on a machine, please let us know if you see someone playing too rough on a cabinet or pinball machine. If you are playing and something happens TELL US! While we don't want incidents to happen we know they do. We can fix them. Bigger problems occur when people just walk away and don't tell us. When we have to go to our cameras to see who did what or what happened its much more frustrating and makes the situation much worse.
We were fortunate this time to be able to fix the this, but realize that by recognizing the historic value that these games have and treating them with the deserved respect, it will keep them persevered for every one to enjoy for decades to come.

We will continue to bring Primal Rage II and other games to shows because its important to let people every where enjoy arcade games. We just look to everyone to please help us keep doing what we do by respecting these amazing games.

Agreed. Spotted Cow, Capital Seasonal, and about 10 other micro-brews that weren't available outside the state. If I still drank I would have been loaded!

...And the vidiots at NintendoAge were drinking a tub full of piss. go figure. :D

--- Oh yeah, and bartre, glad that you won the fight with that bottle.

thanks :P

don't forget about that quality nebraska beer i brought!

I got rob to buy a Paranoia that I traded him for with my Psychosis in my struggle for complete PCE conversion.

Aww I'm sad I didn't register on the forum before I stumbled into your room at MGC '15. Whoever brought the black TurboDuo with Gates of Thunder and the Turbo Express? Thank you so much.

Also there was a nice fella with a light on his head fixing things with a soldering iron. Does he get on here?

That fellow fixing things was probably "chany"... who is occasionally on here. :)

Ah I think it might've been Chops. Glasses, dark hair, soft spoken? I asked him if he did region free mods but he said he only did repairs :(.

Yeah, chop is my brother from another mother:)

Anyway I had a blast.  Also too short and I didn't get a chance to play much games but I did get a chance to entertain some of you guys especially Friday night.  My apologies if I embarrassed  anyone,  I had a few to drink.  Majors and Nully were a bad influence;)

Naw, Turbokon, you were fine. It was great to meet you and thanks for the chips!

I think the handle of rum was significantly punished, Null. You gave it no quarter and it submitted to you. I could see it cower. It had "The Fear".

Majors was drinking in my car at the pizza place. Again. It's an annual tradition.

That was a hoot, everyone! I had soo much fun. I gave away almost all my buttons (I need to send one to Arkhan!) and took a lot of great footage and a handful of decent photos. Unfortunately, shortly after I moved all the footage off my cameras onto my main computer this afternoon, the computer crapped out on me and now won't boot. Hopefully I'll be able to fix the computer/recover the data (data is stored on a couple of raid-0 hard drives so I hope I can recover the data!).

I can't wait to do it all again next year!

And that's why they won't let him in Chuck E Cheese anymore.

The Raid-0 array is not my boot drive, so I'm hoping it hasn't been affected. My boot drive is an SSD and I've never attempted to repair one of those before.  Work/life is pretty crazy right now so I might put off tinkering with it until the weekend when I can put some time into it.

My apologies to the mods for drudging up an old topic, but I don't get a chance to visit forums very often any longer.  ;)

Thank you to all of you for both making the Midwest Gaming Classic so great every year and of course coming out and being a part of the community there!  It sounds like all of you had a great time so I'm really glad to see that.

Anyway, official attendance was 10,000 attendees over two days, +/- a few people as an exact count is pretty tough to nail down.  That's the first time the show hit 10k and one of the biggest jumps we've seen year-over-year.  The weather was overall perfect for an indoor convention and fortunately the monsoon held off this year for the sake of those in the giant tent.

This year the show tried a few new things including live music, some table games like air hockey, additional 'table-top' games like Magic, and we also brought in a few pay-to-play games which personally I'm a bit iffy about, but it gives us a chance to bring in a few newer arcades to the show that wouldn't normally have been there.  Loosen would also have you know this included crane games for candy and plushy prizes... Umm... yippee?  :p

Tournaments were a bit scaled back again this year because of the Wisconsin laws that prohibit prizes for a "game of chance".  The law is currently (or maybe at this point already has been?) being rewritten at least in part on account of one of our own organizers bringing up the point that the PGA stuff going on in Wisconsin could also be considered a game of chance.  The hope is that by next year if we're still doing the MGC the tournaments will make a full recovery.

The museum and museum-themed rooms like the Turbo Fest were outstanding.  Again, a big THANK YOU to the many of you from this forum that help us every year put these areas together.  A special thanks as well to those of you that hung around late Friday night getting the Planet Harriers setup working.  I know that getting the chance to play that for the first time was a highlight of many that attended the show this year.

The arcade hall was great again this year.  I personally got a chance to play Killer Queen (http://killerqueenarcade.com/video/) for the first time at the show this year and that was a lot of fun.  I only wish I had the floor space to bring some of these cabinets home with me every year, hehe.

Again, thank you to everyone for coming out and making the show such an event every year.  Having gone to the very first 'MGC' as and attendee and going to every show since as an organizer, all of you continue to impress me with your help and dedication to make the Midwest Gaming Classic better every year.  :)

Later.
