BONK HEAD FOR JOYSTICK. Or are you working on this already...hmmmmm....
Anyone on the UK will think I am a pervert.
The problem is that "spherical" might look horrible once the printer spits it out :(

We have never actually seen one. At this point, I don't trust anyone. I'd love to be proven wrong, of course.
I think folks will fake one, though. And claim it is real.

Certainly someone had to turn that in to get the free joystick topper.. Odd that one has never popped up

Well, we are assuming the item actually existed. It might never have (order to manufacture was never placed, or problems/delays from factory in China...like entire batch was defective).
Or, if the item did exist, we are assuming it was distributed (the bag/box of Bonk Heads was thrown in the trash—whoops!).
I don't think many copies of the book were printed/sold, but I am sure at least a handful of people might have sent away for a Bonk Head...but did they ever receive it?
WE MAY NEVER KNOW.
:)
It is very similar situation to this SUPER STAR SOLDIER POSTER, which I fear was never actually printed due to low (read "absolutely zero") interest.
http://archives.tg-16.com/turbo_play_0004.htm
It was the first and last time a poster of the cover was ever offered in any TG-16 magazine.

This would be fairly easy if anyone has a figurine (does one exist?) that has a head about the size of a ball top. I can scan it & create a socket on the bottom to press fit a brass thread into. If we have nothing for me to scan though then someone will have to create it. Or I can get the design done in maya but i will need someone to take it from there and finish with measurements etc. Cool part is there is a "skin" filament that would be cool to try as well.
-
A Bonk head would be awesome..
Or even Bonk pencil toppers :)

No don't make penciled toppers. Someone associated to DoxPhile might top non pencils with them. And then whisper bonk in your ear

thats an awesome idea. do you have anything you plan on making chad?

Well made a handful of things for the kids, battery doors for the old coleco, bandai tabletop arcade games and some prototype stuff for a guy here in vegas. I'm open to ideas and i like the bonk topper but we need someone to design me a model to try out.

I would like to get into 3d printing...
Any recommendations on a good printer and a good read?

I need a baymax head for my kids Lego Baymax project. ;-)

Yes, i would recommend Makerbot as it seems to have the best customer support currently. I was actually interested in the Craftbot but with ship times taking months and really bad support from Hungary, i deemed ill pass even though the printer looked like it was a great build. If you want to save a few bucks you could get the FlashForge series which is basically a clone of the Makerbot Dual/Replicator 2 (depending which model you get) and it will run Makerware software/upgrades etc and they provide descent customer service from what i was reading as well.
It's hard to recommend a site to read as my quest took me a couple months of reading across the web, youtube & discussions with people before i made a decision. Best to try and read on forums from printers you may wish to get to see how the owners are loving/hating there printers.
-
Thanks for the info, I will look into Makerbot. :)

Some local libraries offer free 3D printing, mine does so I have no desire to buy a machine yet.
I've been working with 123D Design which is free software for 3D modeling. I do have a rough idea on a Bonk related project that has been hinted at, but have yet to have time to work too much on it.

Updated OP with a new print, check it out.

that looks nice! the one thing i don't like about my BuffaloWing designed cover, from shapeways, is how its hard to get to the region switch. Looks like you made a nice cutout for it.

It actually came from thingiverse, but i do like the design of it.

I get the sense Popful Mail would be jealous of any such project.

Just like whenever I see your name, I read, "Necro - Romancer" something like "Necrophilia."
(Sorry, I still love you man! But only if you're alive)

I've had nothing but trouble out of the Makerbot that we have at work. Their customer support depends on if you buy the optional MakerCare warranty. With it, it's OK; without it you are basically on your own.

Sorry to hear that. At the moment, everything is good so far. I did also get the upgrades for it (aluminum arms, aluminum extruder assy, aluminum carry base, wire chains and axis stiffeners) as well. I did some prints before i added mods and then after. It seems alot more solid now and it only ran a few hundred bucks.

Check out the HuCard holders i'm working on in 1st page!
-
Nice, I really like it. Probably not possible to use sleeves with it? I currently use a CD holder that's similar in style for some of my cased Turbo/PCE games that I store near the TV for easy access.
-
Just like whenever I see your name, I read, "Necro - Romancer" something like "Necrophilia."

Read it as NEC romancer. I like to take my Duo out to dinner and a movie and whisper sweet nothings in its huey slot.

ooh very nice. did you get my pm by chance?
nec-romancer..... I like that pronunciation. has a nice ring to it

Yep just replied with the details!

That HuCard rolodex is pretty sweet man!
-
Hmm, I could use a loose HuCard holder!
-
I'm finishing up the (hopefully) last prototype now. I am adding "TurboGrafx-16" text to the outside as well. I increased the wall height to about 1" and shrunk the width by 1/8". HuCards fit really good now! I kept the 15 slots the same. I will be offering these for $20 including shipping within the usa probably within the next couple days. I'll post updated pics and info soon too.
-
Totally awesome, can't wait!

The Hucard holder is a terrible idea. I mean, its great if you want to leave your games and their contacts to exposure and direct light and go out of your way to try to destroy them over time, but to be honest unless you plan to provide some kind of lid with it, its just a stupid idea. No way would I spend good money on that kind of crap. Come up with a clear lid for it and it would be worthwhile as a show piece. As is, no, just no.

Some car model tops would probably work.

Aww you have no faith in our OBEY cards. They been loose in the wild for over 20 years and yet no issues. Our members have them stored in coffee cups, baskets and even potpourri bags lol! I do like your lid idea alot and thought of it as well but it's not feasible for 3d printing currently as the time to print would be crazy.
Don't be butt hurt either about me commenting in your pce memories trade thread either. I don't mind you getting mad though because of it. Doesn't mean i have an issue with you just happened i had an issue with that paticular post. You can always put me on ignore if it makes you feel better or rant more on this thread cause unlike you i'm not gonna get upset and lock it lol.

Youre reading too much into this. See this quote:
Take a look and let me know what you guys think!
You asked, and you got an honest reply back. This thing is dumb as f*ck all with no lid to protect the cards from exposure and accidents. I have already seen the worst that can happen to hu-cards, given James was flooded a couple years back when the storms hit NY bad. I'd rather do what I can to protect my games then not. I even keep my SFC carts in small sealed containers. Nothing cart/card wise sits around loose and exposed waiting for accidents or damage from exposure to happen. And god forbid some clumsy spouse accidentally knocks one of these f*ckers of yours off a shelf with it being stacked full of cards with no lid to keep them in place. Make a tight fitting lid and you have a winning product. Loose like it is, no, just no....

OK, I don't want to get into any drama. So, here is some feedback:
(1) I like this tray. It's fun.
(2) The new design is 100% better than the prior one :)
(3) Is this a practical, long-term solution for storage? No. But if you are playing a bunch of games this weekend, or over the next week, there's no shame in using this as convenient "on deck" storage as you swap games (I swap games a lot). I usually use a plastic bin or coffee mug as my temporary "holder"...at any given time, I have 3-6 games plus 1-3 system cards I want easy access to.
(4) I am not the typical use case, perhaps, but I can't be the only one who does this!
(5) If a person kept this tray on a shelf, out of direct sunlight, with a lid/cover...I think it would be OK for long term storage.
Anyway, I think this tray is fun.
-
I love the tray, is clear printing even possible yet?
Anyway good stuff, keep printing...I has an idea for a replaceable OG PCE case at some point, how does this stuff hold up to screws and the like?
Hopefully my ED cover shows up today, damn slow ass postal service...lol
Keep on keepin on.

Hey don't worry about drama, if you like it you like it  I appreciate your feedback, and yeah i think its great to hold some games to have at the ready. It's unique and like mg said it kind of reminds me of an old school rolodex cause you can flip through them! I'll be putting these up for sale today too.

Of course i'll keep printing, thanks glad you like it :D Just ignore prof he has no effect anything i do. Yes i can print clear but its more like a translucent when it dries than a transparent. I have a translucent blue filament which is pretty awesome too that i might try making a few things in. I hope it shows up today too, i shipped to a few people at same time and cpt just got his stuff today so i know my shipments are on their way.

Updates on main post!

I have all of my loose hueys in a stack, as space is a major issue where I live.
This would prevent me from shuffling them like deck of cards while blasting RUSH..

My cover finally came in today, got dang post was slow as shit getting it here...
Fits as snug as a bug in a rug, would love to devise some sort of reset button cover so you could click it with the door... maybe a spring or something, I'll tinker

Would you be able to contact me about one of these? I would like a black one with letters. please email me at wizard2694@hotmail.com

Not to derail the thread or anything, but if you need someone to print you a sticker for cheap, let me know. I've got access to a vinyl printer and the place doesn't charge much to use the printer.

Great prices for the TED covers. This is about half of the cost of printing them yourself using the cheapest 3D printing service.
