I'm going to be listening to this soundtrack as I pass out tonight. I don't understand a word in the menus, but since it shows what the computer does it becomes easy to figure it out via context. The gameplay is f*cking fun... military madness with multiple attack styles per unit (customizable before each level) but admittedly less visually impressive battles. But then again the fact that you're piloting masturbation fodder in mechs does kinda make up for it.
what are these ladies saying throughout this game? Arrrgh!

It's one of those games that TTI supposedly had in the works, but we'll probably never know for sure. Probably a game they threw out there to impress unfortunately. I remember looking forward to in BITD even though I'm not a big strategy game lover. Dope soundtrack, never really sat down & listened to it till now!

There was about this game in an article in an old Gamepro that I had. I never played it and only just now remembered reading about it forever ago.
...I think I'll give it a shot.

EGM previewed it as "the first SCD game" or something. Likely it was just the first one they got pics of.

Dude, you should download the complete PCE/Turbo CD iso torrent. I just listen to tracks from those files instead of digging out my games to rip.
But what quality are the mp3's in? I have problems. I don't mind slightly larger files to help future-proof.
Also, I don't think I have enough room on my drives for even a fraction of ISO torrent. How massive is that thing? My poor 11 year old laptop and ancient external hard drive will have an aneurism. :)

Underrated game. it wasn't too hard to figure out the menus. The hardest stage in my opinion is where you need to escort the three ships across the map (stage 3 or 4?). The cpu controls them and they make a bee line to the other side of the map, regardless what enemies are in the way. If all three get destroyed, its game over. I ended up placing my characters in front of the ships so they can't run out in front.
Really would like to hear the story of whats going on in the game. Can anyone write up a Cliff's Notes summary of the game?

I would never download a game that uses MP3 as the sound files. No reason to compress them. What is this, 1997? Leave 'em as WAVs, man. Don't mess with 'em. We have fast internet now. We have hard drives bigger than 2GB now.

This thread is awesome, and is another reason why I am so glad I started paying attention to the communities around the things I've enjoyed for so long. Hearing discussion about optimal audio compression in regards to reproducing a 'quality' sound warms my heart, and makes me incredibly envious of the pallet some are able to enjoy. I have some hardcore audiophile friends, and other friends with amazing artistic eyes, and their discussions about the quality degradation between formats always enthralls me. Threads like this make me realize how wrong I've done this so far. At times I feel like a guy who brought a box of wine to the tasting, but at least I'll know a bit more going forward. That being said, is there no gameplay video of this game available? It sounds so interesting, but I am having a hard time picturing it.
I'm glad Joe made the point about mp3 to wave format choice when ripping music from a cd game. It can always be downgraded for mp3 if needing to fit on a specific device, but it's probably best to create individual files at the highest quality possible. You can always downgrade a high quality file, it's a lot harder to upgrade :)

Honestly, what`s the difference between formats Joe? Besides file size it's impossible to tell.

Title: Re: Jesus f*ck... Lady Phantom has awesome music, gameplay fun, and anime chicks...

I think Joe would rather like to encode the MP3s (or whatever format) from an uncompressed source by himself, than having somebody else done that.
At least this is what I prefer when I've got the choice between ripping tracks from an original CD or going for some downloads. At least I know then that I have done it the proper way in the bit rate I want and the format of my choice.
I don't give a f*ck about audiophiles, those who call themselves that way are victims for snake oil marketing and stupid believers in golden ears. Audiophile is a swear word, and they have nothing in common with people that do professional audio production and studied physics.

Never burn rips. Even with a .cue and .wav files it can still have a messed up TOC and give you issues. TOC fixer helps but sadly it's not perfect. Helps on a lot of games though. Only use 1:1 copies.

Yes, I'd rather make my own MP3s out of WAV files. Actually for my iPhone I use Apple Lossless. It creates a file 1/4th the size of the raw WAV file and sounds 100% indentical. Also the resulting file can be converted back to WAV in the future. If you convert an MP3 to WAV, well it doesn't restore the information that was lost when it was crushed to MP3 and still sounds exactly like the MP3 as a result. There are other lossless formats out there like FLAC, but I like Apple Lossless because they play perfectly in iTunes and on an iPhone/iPod.
I've had trouble with very few rips. Sometimes the TOC is messed up but that's the exception to the rule.
EDIT: The version for download at Emuparadise does not compress the audio at all. It's an ISO or probably a cue/bin (downloading now).

I think you misunderstood. A bin/cue rip is a 1:1 copy. I didn't mean to use only legit copies. Doing a rip with the data and audio tracks separate will always lead to issues with the audio. Having one file and a cue mds or similar file is always the way to go.

So has anyone else taken this game for a spin? I'd be curious to hear if i'm just a sucker for blue and green haired toons or if normal people find the game to be rather awesome as well.
If anyone needs the game, Joe himself dropped a pretty good hint on where it can be found.
I haven't played it in a long time, but think it's fun and that the gameplay is satisfying enough and that the battle scene artwork is very nice and more "badass" than cute or plastic looking. But it's one of the games that made me realize how important little details/aspects are to me. The battle pics don't have the impact I need for a war sim. Background art plays a big role, because just like in RPGs, I get excited waiting to see something new pop up. Even more generic units can be satisfying on battle scenes like the Nectaris games because of the overall balance of the aesthetic and getting to see them move into position and blow up. Eternal Love Song and Langrisser are good examples of motivational battle scenes. The massive variety of models, backgrounds, gameplay, effects, etc is what makes Vasteel's fights and the game overall so appealing. LP's fight scenes make me react similar to those in Babel. It looks cool and I appreciate them, but it's not as satisfying as many games that do something similar.
I haven't finished LP and I expect that the overall experience would grow on me, but that's been my impression so far.

The Emuparadise download is Cue/ISO. More or less the same thing as Cue/BIN. As long as the Cue sheet is good all should be OK. I have not burned it yet.

Quick n' Dirty Translation Time:
(Page 3)
Prologue
In the Yuloa Galaxy, the intergalactic war between the Soron Planetary Alliance and the Vad Empire had arrived at a temporary ceasefire. It was then that the Soron camp brought a new weapons system called "Project Seiren", which had been in development during the war, into action. The Lady Phantom unit, created as a part of Project Seiren, was dispatched to the former front line at space sector Galdover. It was here, in a place which had turned neutral in the war due to distrust of both Soren and Vad...and a place where public order was little maintained...that something was waiting for the Lady Phantoms. What could it be?
(Page 26)
"Between You and Me" with Mako and Ako
Mako: How's everyone doing? Ako: Lasersoft's idol (mascot) Ako here. Mako: Hey, did you know that there is some information hidden in Lady Phantom's ending? Ako: Oh, I know! It's the usual "hidden picture", isn't it... Mako: Nope, sorry! If you fulfill the right conditions and clear the game, you'll see something else at the very last part of the ending. Ako: What? Really? I guess it will probably take trying it a bunch of times to figure it out. Mako: Everyone, try clearing the game in various states, OK? Ako: All right, I'll do my best!
(by various states, I think they mean the status of your ship/ships when you clear the game).
The rest of the manual is pretty dense instructional stuff. Honestly, you guys might be better served to just give me a few key screenshots of menu stuff, and I'll tell you what they say.
PS: Whoever owned this game before nullity wrote the debug code at the top of page 27.

The last screen gives you the usual Laser Soft debug mode code.
