Title: Nintendo World Championships 2015!
Post by: xelement5x on May 13, 2015, 06:27:03 AM
Nintendo just released this pretty funny video promoting upcoming stuff, but they also mention they're going to do a Nintendo World Championship this year to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the original back in 1990.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKY3scPIMd8
(video embedding seems to be broken because it looks like the forum is using the Youtube v2 API)

And a bit more in depth discussion at Polygon:
http://www.polygon.com/2015/5/13/8598679/nintendo-world-championships-return-at-e3

This seems pretty awesome, I wonder how many people will show up for the prequalifiers and such.

I live in Western Massachusetts but that was the nearest place to compete. I actually go to Worcester on a regular basis to shop at 'That's Entertainment' though.

I don't remember the breakdown on who got the gray carts but I received a hat that says "NWC 1990 Semi finalist" and a GameBoy system.

Ha! Totally.

And I confused others, too, when they switched names a few years ago.

It was hilarious.

"Woostah!"
I remember taking a plane out of Providence to Florida and the return flight went to "Worchester" as the attendant pronounced it. I was like "I know wheah you ain't from. Enjoy the snow!"

I hope it's the real game, and not just a Smash Bros tournament.

I wouldn't even be surprised if they use a modified version of NES Remix.

That would be unfortunate... However, it would be cool if it was a new New Super Mario Brothers game or a modified version of the new ones. Could be very hetic if they did that. lol

No Colorado, seriously?  We're in the middle of the friggin country, it's like one of the criteria is that the location needed to be in a state next to a massive body of water or something.

They should really call it the Nintendo National Championships since the rest of us non-US residents can't join in. I guarantee I would take people to school in Dr. Mario :D

It would be sweet to win one of those badly deformed, poorly cast gold Mario statues.

You need to get shopping for a fake id so you can join in. :)
