Title: New Turbo Stick
Post by: airsoftmodels on May 20, 2015, 10:02:51 AM
My turbo stick arrived in the mail today and it looks brand new!  I am getting ready to do some serious gaming now that I have it and the everdrive!  Since I have only been a tg-16 owner for less than a month, I was wondering how the folks here on the forum feel about the Turbo Stick, is it a necessity,  is it a luxury item, or do you not really need it?  Thanks for sharing.

I have a TurboStick (and a couple other shittier sticks) but never use it.  The pad is good enough for me.

Pads are best.

I'm interested to hear your opinions on the stick. What other arcade sticks are you familiar with? NES/SNES Advantage, Sega's 16 bit arcade sticks, or any of the Hori 3rd party options? I might pick up a hori fighting stick for the PCE if I get the chance, I really like the PS1 and Sega Saturn Hori sticks I've gotten recently.

I've always had just the pads for my Turbo, and my PCE that I recently got only has a pad as well, but I prefer to play with arcade sticks whenever I can. The fun and nostalgia of using an arcade stick outweighs how much worse I am at the games when using it - kind of like using a racing wheel with racing games, or flight stick with flight sims. Fun over function hahah

I am familiar with the X-Arcade Solo, which I use with MAME, The Atari CX40's that I use with my 600XL, and the CH Products Mach III that I use with my Apple IIe.  As far as my opinion of the Turbo Stick, too early to tell, I only used it for a few minutes today.  But I am hoping it will reduce the strain on my fingers I experience sometimes with the pad.

I only game with turbo sticks and use 6 button controllers on the neo geo ports. They are probably one of the better made sticks I have seen.

I have TurboStick. I much prefer standard pads/third-party pads.

LeStick is too flimsy for my tastes.

At least NES Advantage was solid and weighted.

I like platformers which are a pain to play with turbostick. I go with turbopad on this one.

I want to pick up the ASCII Stick Engine (not to be confused with the Ass Key Stink Engine).

Anyone use one of those? They were work a PC Engine Duo, right?

Wasn't there a Playstation 2 to PCE converter being sold somewhere? Good arcade sticks from Hori et al and custom ones can be had for the playstation so it would be nice if it worked with the PCE.

quick edit: found it http://www.tototek.com/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=23&products_id=51

If you want a TurboStick, you're better off with the PCE version and its weighted bottom.

BOOM!!!! You just struck gold idea!!!

Fabricated weighted plate that screws into the bottom of the US TurboStick, possibly using longer screws/bolts to compensate for the extra added space. Should screw into the existing factory screw/bolt holes.

I would definitely use this controller if it was more weighted. I know, I know, I can superglue it to my floor, but all fun aside, I think that US sticks could be really weighted with a solid plate, even more so than the PCE ones.

I think it would be possible to put the plate on the inside.

I tried a TurboStick at Louisville Arcade Expo with a few games. It was great for Dragon Spirit but a little clunky for Bonk's Revenge. I think for shooters it'd be great and I'd like one for that reason. But for platforming games and other types, I think I'd prefer a TurboPad :).

I tried to find one for months and gave up. I eventually got a PS2 Namco arcade stick that I use on the PCE with a small adapter. Really nice for STG. Visual novels, RPG, Action/Adventure/RPG etc are nicer with a pad though.

I've got a Turbo Stick and I'm not a fan at all. I've been meaning to raffle it off one of these days.

Thanks, I think I still secretly want one. The dangerous issue with it though is that of course Micomsoft was clever enough to port their XE-1 for all the FC, the MD, the SFC, etc. So if it's really the most amazing stick it is supposed to be, there is a potential risk for those who play on more than on platform to end up in yet another collectard trap. At least with the PS2 stick and a couple of adapters the risk is more manageable...

The Turbo stick is okay for certain types of games. A while back someone had modded some NES Advantage joysticks for use on Turbo systems. For me that would be a bit of an upgrade, I also know that ASCII sold a very similar stick for the PC Engine (FYI ASCII actually made the NES Advantage, Nintendo just resold them with their branding).

Update:  The Turbo Stick I just got, and barely used, is now broken.  I can not go left in any game.  The turbo pad works fine, so I believe its the Turbo Stick.  I tried all the usual remedies.  Bummer.

The culprit may be the cable on the turbo stick itself.

I considered taking it apart to see what I could possibly fix, but instead I emailed Lukie Games and they sent a RMA right away!

I've never used one but I imagine it has to be better than the Beeshu stick I have.  Cuz that thing...
