Title: TED Group Buy Round 2! ORDERED!
Post by: jtucci31 on May 21, 2015, 06:03:05 AM
ALL PM'S ARE OUT. INCLUDING INTERNATIONAL ORDERS

Before everyone goes buying an everdrive on their own, why not be patient and get a discount?

For those that don't know how it works. If we buy 10 or more everdrive they are $60 instead of $80. So with shipping and everything you're saving about $10-15. You may just have to wait a little longer for everyone to sign up on this thread and pool the money together, but it seemed worth it last time and worked out rather well.

I guess I'm just starting this thread to see if there is enough interest for one in the first place. We would be buying the V2 of the everdrive this time. I'm on my phone so linking stuff is a pain, but I can put that up at a later time. (So if there are typos in this post, I apologize).

I won't buy one for myself since I'm content with the old everdrive, but I just have a lot of free time to do this. So, if anyone has interest let me know in this thread and we will get a list going!

The list:

1. jelloslug paid SHIPPED
2. cjameslv paid SHIPPED
3. glazbal
4. CPTBADASS paid SHIPPED
5. MotherGunner
6. Desh paid SHIPPED
7. elmer (x3 usb) paid SHIPPED
8. Necromancer paid SHIPPED
9. Renmauzo CANADA paid SHIPPED
10. BigusSchmuck (usb) paid SHIPPED
11. Gredler (usb) paid SHIPPED
12. SephirothTNH paid SHIPPED
13. SkyeWeIse paid SHIPPED
14. Pokun (usb) SWEDEN paid
15. crazydean paid SHIPPED
16. NightWolve paid SHIPPED
17. Opethian paid SHIPPED
18. Lost Monkey paid SHIPPED
19. SmokeMonster (x2) paid SHIPPED
20. ultrageranium (usb) NETHERLANDS paid
21. Warbucks (usb) paid SHIPPED
22. Duo_R paid SHIPPED

Here is what we are looking at:

Non-USB Everdrive orders in the US
$70 shipped

USB Everdrive orders in the US
$81 shipped

USB/Non-USB Everdrive orders outside CON US
Depends. Will have to chat with separately.

Last time I shipped them in small flat rate boxes. Sure, it's a big box for such a tiny thing, but I knew I wouldn't want my everdrive shipped in some bubble mailer/envelope. Hope that's ok with everyone. No one seemed to mind last time (at least I think). I make sure to package them up real good and safe.

With that, I also want to double check I have everyone marked correctly for what they wanted.

USB Orders
elmer x3
BigusSchmuck
Pokun
ultrageranium
Warbucks
gredler

International Orders
Pokun (Sweden)
Renmauzo (Canada)
ultrageranium (Netherlands)

Is the V2 the new, RAM based one?

Edit: oops I've just read the other thread.

I got stuck with a V1 with usb, since that was all that was available at the time. I'm interested in buying a clean unworn V1 without usb from anyone looking to upgrade in this group buy. I just want to be able to stick a cart shell on mine. I'll probably buy a V2 down the road, if some kind of CD game translation makes use of it and the Stupid Card won't do the trick.

Thanks for be willing to organize this!  :)

As mentioned in the other thread ... I'm in for two ... at least one with USB.

By my count, that already puts us at 8.

I'll take a third if it'll make the group-buy happen.

I believe shipping is $5 no matter where you are. So I'll keep you on the list, shipping to you will just cost a little more. But that's no issue.

So far we have 18, looks like there's quite a bit of interest for this one. I guess I'll go until 20 but that's where I'm cutting it off. So if anyone else wants in, make sure to be in the last two. I'll send out emails and PayPal information shit once we reach 20 (which I'm sure we will at this rate) and once I get some more time. Which will be this weekend sometime.

Also forgot to mention that I think I can cut the price down slightly from the previous price I had (which was $70, saving you $15). I'm maybe thinking $66ish since I know what I'm doing this time around. Last time I just wanted to make sure and the extra money was put towards gas/supplies/etc. This time I'll have way more free time and extra cash to just take a slight hit (which is really not big deal. Doing this gives me something to do).

Everyone will get specifics in the PM's I'll send out once the list is finalized and once I get more time to send out 20 PM's. Hope you all don't mind waiting just a few days.

Hey jtucci, please set aside two: one for me, and one for elmer. And possibly one more for Bonknuts.

I know it may exceed your limit, but this would potentially be for translation project development - hopefully a cause you deem worthy.

I think that SamIAm missed my earlier post, and that we're getting mixed-up ... I'd already included him in my 2 orders and the potential-third. I'm trying to confirm, but he's in a different time zone.

I'd guess that he really wants to make sure that these get ordered so that more of his translations get finished!

Could you please just put me down for 3-with-usb total, and cancel/hold SamIAm's order for the moment, pending confirmation?

I can ship both SamIAm and Bonknuts cards as necessary if you don't want to bother with splitting the shipping.

Good work including Bonknuts guys! I wonder if he could work on the Arcade memory mapping and either upgrade the TE's OS or with a hacked System 3 ROM to do it! I was gonna ask him about it - something tells me it's not too late to implement. I saw krik's mapper "C" code for SFII, only a few lines... So, you've got the needed RAM here and the cart is fully interfaced, I think Arcade support should still be possible with a software upgrade - hacked ROM or OS upgrade.

Ah f*ck it. I'll add you both. But now I'm done. No more slight guilt trips people, that works on me too easily, lol. This is it for the list of people. However, Black Tiger I'm not sure if you wanted in or not. So let me know and I'll include you since you responded within that first page.

I believe I have everyone on the list and the quantities/usb option listed as well. If I messed up, let me know now!

I emailed krizzxkxkx about having a few usb and the rest without. Figure it shouldn't be a problem, but I just want to be sure.

Just lets you go in microSD to USB mode - if you frequently wanna write new ROMs on the SD card and don't wanna keep ejecting/reinserting it all the time, then it could be useful. If your PC doesn't have a SD card section and just USB slots, then it'd be useful for older PCs in that regard or you can just buy a cheap SD to USB device. I've seen 'em for as low as $6 bucks at Microcenter.

I love these usb/sd things. Got a bunch of them a while back for $2 each shipped on ebay. Gotta love the chinese for cheap trinkets like this.

Yeah, I love those Chinese sellers and the exchange rate with their currency. Enjoy it while it lasts. Just had a microHDMI to HMDI cable for $2 bucks that arrived the other day and a 10 ft DVI to HDMI for $4 bucks, that's with shipping!

Anyhow, giving Krik $10 or $15 for a USB connection isn't worth it and it's nice he made it optional for most who won't need it. A homebrew developer will keep compiling a ROM and overwriting the old one if he/she wants testing on real NEC hardware, so it makes sense for them to have USB support for quicker rewrites versus popping out that microSD card repeatedly.

There is no deluxe version. Some stores just like to dress up flashcarts and charge a crazy premium for them.

Several people have already made 3D printed and misc physical covers for the original Turbo Everdrive.

Krikzz just confirmed (http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=2670.msg29529#msg29529) for me that v2 PCB mounting holes are exactly the same as v1, so v1 3D shells are probably fine.

A realtime 2-way connection with a PC can also be used for accessing files on the PC and printing debug messages ... but again, that's the kind of stuff that crazy developer-types do, not regular sensible folks that just want to play games.

Another potential use would be to fulfill some people's desire to have a way to save the PCE backup memory to a file. That's pretty easy to do with the USB connection to a PC ... and much harder to do if you've got to write a file to the SD card in a way that works with different SD card sizes/formats.

If you were ever thinking about adding USB later on, then you'd also need to solder on the surface-mount FTDI fifo-to-usb chip as well as the actual USB socket.

Ok so, this time around the discount works a bit differently. He is taking 20% off of any orders $800 or more. We are way above that, but that means the discounts are a little different. I'm awaiting an email from krikzz to confirm how that works. Just to be sure.

Here is what we are looking at:

Non-USB Everdrive orders in the US
$70 shipped

USB Everdrive orders in the US
$81 shipped

USB/Non-USB Everdrive orders outside CON US
Depends. Will have to chat with separately.

Last time I shipped them in small flat rate boxes. Sure, it's a big box for such a tiny thing, but I knew I wouldn't want my everdrive shipped in some bubble mailer/envelope. Hope that's ok with everyone. No one seemed to mind last time (at least I think). I make sure to package them up real good and safe.

With that, I also want to double check I have everyone marked correctly for what they wanted.

USB Orders
elmer x3
BigusSchmuck
Pokun
ultrageranium
Warbucks

International Orders

Hi jtucci31,

I'm an international order too! (Netherlands)

USB order incl. shipping to EU without discount would normally be $99, so anything cut from that would be very much welcome.

Now I'm wondering something though. If the card is shipped back to the EU from the US, there is a risk for it being taxed upon re-entrance. I do not know for Ukraine but the Netherlands is quite awful at dealing with person to person gift imports (even if marked under the €45 value threshold, set by European laws). They often apply the 20% VAT + €13 admin fee on top, regardless (I have one current 30€ gift taxed sent from Japan with SAL taxed like this, currently in appeal).

Do you think it would be too much asking krikzz to ship the EU orders separately to avoid customs nightmare? Maybe that's an acceptable request if it's just Pokun and I, given the total quantity ordered is quite large? What do you think?

Oh yeah tax, I didn't think about that. $81 is above the threshold. Small packages like this are usually not checked though and if you mark it as GIFT and value $15 or something maybe it's ok. If Krikzz could deliver it to us separately it would be great though.

Although we have the same colours on our flags I'm from Sweden and not Ukraine.
I have no problem that it's in a sturdy box as long as the total price doesn't exceed $98 which is what it would cost for me if I order USB-version from Krikzz.

Thanks a lot for all the trouble Jtucci!

Ok so, this time around the discount works a bit differently. He is taking 20% off of any orders $800 or more. We are way above that, but that means the discounts are a little different. I'm awaiting an email from krikzz to confirm how that works. Just to be sure.
Those prices are excellent--about $20 less than ordering directly from retrogate :D

For those of you that missed out, keep watch next Black Friday in November. He does Black Friday discounts and you'll be able to get it cheaper than this group buy by say $5 bucks - assuming he does the same thing this year. I got the full SD2SNES for $167 shipped with shell - far better deal than the group buy at the time. It's $205 now with shell+shipping per individual.

Yay, I had $82 left in Paypal funds, didn't have to do a funds transfer from my checking! Money was gifted in a flash! Let's hope this group buy goes as well as the last time! Good looking out, jt! So at $70 versus $84 if you go solo, we save $14 bucks each except for those USB guys. Kinda sucks, but krik did raise the wholesale price by $3.20. Last time, 10+ orders cost $60, but with a 20% discount instead, with 10 orders it goes $63.20. Regardless, still a great deal in terms of value for your money.

Bad news: pic related.

Questions before deciding on best strategy to solve this mess:

- Do you know where is the rest?
- Is the GB cart a mistake?
- Were you given any tracking info for the parcels?

No it's a Game Gear everdrive that someone requested. I'll have to go sift through my emails. I know I was given some tracking, but this just makes no sense.

I said that I wanted only one everdrive sent to specific locations, the rest to me. Maybe I f*cked up. Or they did. Shit happens.

I'll PM you later today when I get more time and can sort this out. Stay patient please :)

Am I the only one that kinda wishes Joe just limited this to US orders like last time ? ... Attempting to have krik direct some orders to Europe to save on shipping costs instead of just giving him *one* address to send the total wholesale order to like he's used to led to this...  I know it's krik's f--k up and on a $1,XXX+ order it's not very excusable, but yeah, I would've said no to Euro orders... You think about it, most orders you do in business transactions, there's simply one buyer shipping address for the seller to deal with so no atypical, multiple shipping addresses/instructions to deal with, etc... It should've been a simple request, I get it, but yeah, you're throwing the seller off with 3 addresses on one order... Anyway, I'm just being grumpy. :/

Hello NightWolve, SephirothTNH, cjameslv, and of course all of you stuck in this conundrum,

You are completely right. US and EU orders should not be mixed. This is precisely the reason why jtucci31 inquired about the possibility to split the orders. If this would not have been approved by the seller, Pokun and I agreed with jtucci31 that we were out of the deal.

Technically, and logistically speaking, these were in fact 3 orders that had to be honoured.

How we ended up in this mess, and how we will get out of it, is being actively discussed.

It won't cost any of you extra, I know that. I'm sorry for this mess-up. I feel very guilty, I thought this could be done smoothly. I sadly won't be getting much help from krikzz on any of this, so matters are in my own hands. I assumed responsibility for this sort of thing when I said that I'd do this group buy, so it's no issue to me. I just know that it sucks that you guys have to wait a little longer to get them.

Bear with me please. I'm doing my best and trying to get this sorted out as smoothly as possible. Ultrageranium has been very helpful and accommodating with all of this as well, thankfully. So there shouldn't be all too much to worry about aside from an extended wait time. Which I feel very bad about.

I'll admit, shouldn't have f*cked with the system that worked in the previous group buy. Now I know.
Title: Re: TED Group Buy Round 2! ORDERED!
Post by: Pokun on June 21, 2015, 08:44:44 AM
Krikzz is the one at fault rushing with the order like that.

And I agree that group orders over several continents was a bad idea, it was a good lesson though. I'm not entering any more group buys anyway. Paypal also stole a big chunk of the discount so I'm happy if this ends the same as the normal price.

I will go home early and check my postbox then get back to you.

Not just brave, generous too. He was already gifting some of the shipping cost to us. This mix up will add to it unfortunately since it sounds like krik doesn't wanna take responsibility... Well, I don't mind the wait, but learning that krik just randomly split the orders like that made me very nervous. Seems his English is good enough to get by most of the time I guess, just not this time.

Accidents happen and while in hindsight it would have made more sense to have done this in two orders perhaps, I don't think you should feel guilty about it. You were trying to do us all a favor. We recently had an order where someone like you who was trying to do a favor for the MSX community was trying to work with a shop to create new keyboard membranes for Panasonic MSX machines. He worked so hard to try and get the orders processed and get everyone a fully working membrane, but there were issues and now pretty much the cost of all of the membranes will need to be refunded to those who paid for them (or partial amounts if the shop honors a lower price for a non-perfect one) and it's a huge hassle for him to now have to deal with. So I definitely want to tell you that I really appreciate what you are trying to do here very much.

While I would prefer if it didn't cost me more to get it, if it helps things out I don't mind paying a little more for my order if need be to offset the extra shipping expense that will have to be paid.  Consider it a handling fee. There may be others here who feel the same way. Please let me know if you think this offer would help the situation.

I honestly think that is a part of the struggle. You can tell when communicating with the people in the shipping department that their English is a little spotty. That doesn't really help my cause.

I think that I had read somewhere that he was no longer running the store or really involved in it much.  I know he used to personally reply if you had a question about your order, but i'm pretty sure he delegated that to someone else now.

I took out one with USB and sent the rest of the Everdrives to Jtucci. 7 non-USB and 3 with USB. That should be all of them.

The rest of them have been shipped out today! I'll PM everyone tracking numbers later today.

In regards to the poor customer service, yeah it blows. I never really asked for any type of compensation or anything. Primarily because I felt like it would have been more of a hassle than it was worth since they didn't seem to really care outright that they had made a mistake with the shipping. I was thinking about writing some sort of letter of complaint to the place, just so that this sort of thing doesn't happen to anyone else and that they don't act so carelessly next time. It is what it is, and we got it all sorted out.

Once again, sorry for the delays. I did my best to ensure you guys wouldn't need to throw more money at this than necessary. I think we did alright in the end :)

Maybe we should all just mail Krikzz' Everdrive store and complain. He really screwed up and if he doesn't care about a bunch of his customers he shouldn't hope to sell a lot more products in the future to us.

I always argued that the Famicom version Everdrive was better than the NES Powerpak mainly because of the price and the support (Bunnyboy never updates the Powerpak, while Krikzz do update his Everdrives) but I've also seen how his attitude towards customers can be. After this incident, my opinion about him has certainly taken a blow.

Getting mine today if I don't miss the postman after 5-6 pm. He typically leaves a missed-delivery note if nobody is at the door... They don't ever ring the bell and I noticed with my last shipment (a new fish tank filter), he had prewritten the note but because I came out to the door and asked about what I knew was out for delivery, he said he'd go to his truck to go get it... :/ Anyway, good they've all been shipped out and this is almost over with.

In case it helps anyone with setting it up, I learned that there can only be a maximum of 25 pages in each folder directory, so at least in my case I was able to split up a GoodPCE archive as follows:

A-E
F-N
O-S
T-Z

Having a lot of fun with this so far. Is there a comprehensive list anywhere of fan-translated HuCard projects available anywhere?

Protips:

1) First make sure the region switch is where it's supposed to be, either PCE or TG-16. Mine was set to PCE, and when I tried to boot it on my US TurboExpress I got just a black screen... I forgot all about the region issue and I wound up reinserting it a few times at first thinking I got a bad one...

2) Download the BIOS (as it will instruct you upon startup), unzip the folder "TBED" and save it to the root of of your microSD card.

http://krikzz.com/pub/support/index.php?dir=turbo-ed-v2%2Fos
http://krikzz.com/pub/support/turbo-ed-v2/os/turbo-os-v1.zip

3) Fetch your ROM collection of course, copy to root, or you can PM Bernie, me, etc. for a link to a full one prepared by Bernie some time back.

Well, mine seems to be in working order. Only a 7 week wait between the time I paid and received it. ;) Anyhow, enjoy!

Anyone know if you can use the same sd card for multiple everdrives.  It seems like it should work no problem.  Anyone tried?

I have this same problem.  If it won't fit in the mailbox they just put a slip in there and I have to drive up to the post office.

Yeah, I guess you could but not worth it. They're cheap enough and ejecting/inserting all the time on a PCB like that is extra wear/stress each time, so not worth it if you ask me. One cheap 1GB microSD ($1-$3 bucks) here is all you need and just made dedicated for this Everdrive.

Yeah, I've had to drive over a few times this year, last was for my new 5.5" Android phone. Once this happens, signing the paper for a redelivery just seems like another set up for a missed delivery all over again. Looks like it's part laziness on their part, trying to save on workload, etc.

I need to get in touch with some home brew devs now, and see if I can get a good testing setup to look at art on the system using this usb port :)

Thanks again - beyond excited!

Update:

Works great on my Turbokon region modded duo-r! I don't want to take my turbo out and test on that, but this serves the purpose I need for sure! I tried a few roms, and they play exactly like my official retail games. This is really the closest thing to real without breaking the bank - as my first Everdrive / rom loader experience - super impressed!

There's just one small little thing that's driving me absolutely crazy. I- and II-button functions are swapped in the menu! ](*,) What's the deal with that? Every single PC Engine game I played uses II-button for cancel (except when a mouse is detected in some games) but Krikzz just had to go and do everything backwards.

The Famicom Everdrive is also like this but at least it has an option to swap the swapped functions of A- and B-buttons to the standard layout again.

Tell him to make sure he switched the PCE-TG16 switch appropriately... I fell for it myself... It was on PCE from the factory, I have a US Express, so when I loaded up my SD, I got nothing but a black screen... I kept removing it, blowing on my Express, a few times before I finally remembered that shit... If I can fall for that, anyone can. Also, links/info again:

That seems to be his issue.  But, that seems kinda lame.  The GameOfYou card works fine with those don't it?

and he's got a pro as f*ck DD region mod.

His things worked for me, but I don't have region mods.
Title: Re: TED Group Buy Round 2! ORDERED!
Post by: NightWolve on July 15, 2015, 07:06:35 PM
Ah, so it was the region mod. You could try to change the voltage supply source. Solder a wire directly to the 5V regulator output leg to get the maximum power and send it to the region mod circuit if it currently taps voltage from the video output area. That helps for some cases, if not, that particular region mod implementation is just not agreeable with TE.
Title: Re: TED Group Buy Round 2! ORDERED!
Post by: wilykat on July 15, 2015, 10:07:56 PM
I thought the issue were related to those that used electronic switches and the timing at power on could be causing issue? That is the 8 data busses weren't set when TE tried to perform function with the console?

Mechanical 8 pole switch doesn't seem to cause the issue. They don't draw any power other than some extra wires requiring an additional milliamp or 2 to go through

Yeah, there are a few region mod styles/circuits, but the one that needs a 5 Volt supply is the one that I'm thinking of. Problems with other types of flashcarts were solved when tapping the voltage from the best source, right from the output leg of the 5V regulator.

Keith mentioned details on the different styles here:
https://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=18315.msg387358#msg387358

And according to BlueBMW, some chips have a 5VDC regulator on them, in which case, it's better to tap the incoming 10-12 VDC from the power cable:
https://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=9333.msg162146#msg162146

Seems people are having trouble with this new Everdrive on a US TG-16 as well, but in the case of Arkhan's friend, it's a region-modded Duo-R so that rules that out.

Well, personally, I'd get just rid of the region modding if there's no solution and just stick with the TE - might as well preserve the HuCard collection now.

I test drove mine over the weekend and found it works, but I have to fiddle around with the RX's power switch to keep it from hitting the sd card.  Such poor design means I'll probably be using the ol' neo flash cart more often, or maybe I can shave down the sd card a bit.

Yes I have the same issue, I have to hold the SD card completely inserted for the power switch to slide across the card properly. It hitches on the SD card otherwsie, and I wondered if I just had a slightly off centered board or something, but the design does seem prone to this hiccup.

Oh, so he didn't quite get good universal placement for the microSD slot for all the many iterations of NEC hardware...

I almost thought it's not just for the RX - looking at my TurboExpress just now and the green mold of the power switch to hold the card in, it's like RIGHT THERE, it almost could touch the microSD card, I thought it was! Barely avoided putting pressure on it. Yeah, he needed to have moved that IC behind it more to the center, then he could've done the same for it... Or, he could've moved it and the reset button a little closer to the USB front center and that would've been good enough...

Sigh, so a minor slot placement issue there, major no-compatibility issue with US TG-16s, he screws up $1,XXX+ orders if more than one shipping address is added with special instructions, etc... And he didn't pull the lever on going for Arcade Card support though he considered it... All in all, a little disappointing... :/ It's fine for me given my Express and Duo (the TG-16 I won in a contest broke on me in the 90's), and the bizarre order mix-up is forgivable since it worked out, but I'm sure there are others expressing far worse buyer's remorse right now.

As someone who does not have a large library of games, has never owned a flash card, and is interested in starting to develop for the system, I am the opposite of remorseful. I am so excited to get some more free time and really dive into some games I thought I would never play on actual hardware :)

For the record, my console is a Duo-R. I have not unpacked my TG-16 to test it on, once I got a Duo I packed away my TG as a backup.

That poor TG-16 :(

You have to pull it out and play a few times a year, at least.

Thank you.

I had a US Duo - but I like the aesthetic of the TGCD combo better so I sold my Duo... now I have to go back to RF if I want to use the TEDV2...

I have been thinking about getting a JP Duo or Duo-R though...

Oh it will see the light of day again. It's my backup right now, I try to have a daily driver and a backup, incase I flub up my daily driver I can keep playing if needed. I grew up with that turbo, so it's cozy getting a rest with the new Duo-R does the heavy lifting :)

That's my auction and it isn't from the group buy. I got two grou- buy TED's and one is permanently connected to my Duo and the other is in my PCE. I use them for testing the Everdrive packs that I maintain. Below is my big order of TED's direct from Krikzz.

Also, I listed the auction $79, the exact price of a TED from retrogate.

Oh, I see, you added a cover and rolled the dice with an auction. Guess word hasn't gotten around to those big spenders though about its problems with US TG-16 consoles and what not. :/ You got them $63 each (+$5 S/H) then wholesale (whole order of 10 for about $680?), but yeah, that's what every other retailer is setting the markup to, $79.

EDIT: Wait... Well, upon further review, I do not like this reseller... Thumbs down... Because if I bought from him and I ever found out the link to retrogate's store, I would be pretty f--king pissed I paid $170 (and counting) cause I fought in an auction for something available at retail for consistent price, even with the $20+ plastic shell... He is effectively withholding information, no links to krik... That's what it is... Have to call it like it is... This method knowingly relies upon low-information big spenders and their ignorance...

I would contact the top bidder right now if I could... I don't like it when I get ripped off, don't like to see it happen to others either.

Except I didn't mark anything up. I started the auction at $79. So you don't like me because people bid up my auctions. OK... I actually make tons of information freely available online, whether it be how to make 3D shells or the SD card setups themselves so you can hardly blame me for a lack of info online:

That's good news!  :D

But I'd kind of like KRIKzz to actually confirm this fix on his own forums ... where this news hasn't been posted, yet.

Then it'll be interesting to see which sacrificial-lamb actually sends theirs off first, and then reports back whether the fix is fully working.

I'd like some brave soul with both a TG16 and a TGCD to actually confirm that it works.

AFAIK, krikzz only received a TG16-by-itself from StoneAgeGamer in order to track down the problems.

Anyway ... I suspect that it will be less of a "re-flash", and more of a "re-place" ... those FPGA chips are only one-time-programmable.

So his repair guy is almost-certainly going to have to remove the old FPGA and replace it with a new one.

I'm sure he'll post something soon since it seems to be a really big issue for us US people. I sent mine back to him today for repair, so I guess that I'm first.

What's weird is that my TED v2.2s seem to work fine with my TG16, PCE, Duo, and Turbo Expresses. Is the problem only related to when a CD unit is attached?

I probably wont return mine for "reprogramming."

I've not seen any problem reports with the basic PC Engine, Core Grafx, Core Grafx II, Super Grafx or Turbo Express ... or with any of the Duo systems.

But I have seen reports of problems with ...

[ul][li]Core Grafx with Tennokoe 2[/li][li]Core Grafx II with Tennokoe 2[/li][li]Core Grafx II with SuperCDROM[/li][li]TG16 with TGCD[/li][li]TG16 with TurboBooster+[/li][/ul]
The TG16-by-itself has had variable luck. KRIKzz has said ...

During development i tested cart with core grafx, pce+cd-rom2, super grafx and pal tg16, this i all what i have. All carts v2 working fine with all my systems. But day ago i got U.S. tg16 from stoneagegamer, he reported about problems with tbed v2 on this console. I tested few carts and found that some working fine with this system, but some other works with glitches or even not boot at all.

If your carts have all been working on your TG16, then you've been lucky!

I think it's not reprogramming via update file on SD card but rather reprogramming via JTAG connector and not everyone has access to the right one. I don't think Krikzz is willing to share the source for the chip, only the firmware for updates.

Maybe the OTP model of the FPGA used is cheaper, I don't know, but it does suck that everyone with problems will have to send the everdrive to him exclusively... with no way to download a fixed configuration for the FPGA to reprogram it "at home" for users with the tools and knowledge to do so.

If you wanted to sell it for it's actual price, then you should do a BIN. Or offer links to the actual site or explain where it comes from in the description. I agree with NW, it's playing off of their ignorance.

From the description of your, now sold, TED:

Quote
Turbo Everdrive v2 with 3D Shell & 8gb Micro SDHC

This is the newly released v2.2 Turbo Everdrive. V2 is a complete redesign with instant game loading and other improvements.

The Turbo Everdrive is brand-new and is tested and works perfectly. It has a custom printed 3D shell and an 8GB Micro SDHC card. The card is flashed with the latest Turbo Everdrive OS, and is completely setup with everything ever released for both the Turbografx-16 and PC Engine. Also included are tons of homebrew, translations, and more. It's fully setup so you can just plug it in and play.

The 3D shell snaps on and off, and has a functional reset button. It also has cutouts for the SD card and PCE/TG16 switch. I modified the 3D shell to fit the V2 Everdrive and TurboDuo. Unlike some of the 3D shells available, this one is fully compatible with the TurboDuo/PC Engine Duo (picture 5) and TurboExpress/PC Engine GT (pictures 6 & 7). The Turbo Everdrive will ship in its OEM anti-static bag.

You just make it sound like including a $5 mini sd card with all the roms and custom case is worth the extra $200 they are paying. I just don't get this at all. *shrugs*

wow that is absurd.  I am a little torn on how I feel about this one.

On the one hand who ever won this auction, and the 7 others willing to pay more than $130, are idiots and deserve to be separated from their money.  A few years ago I was selling a used bari sax mouthpiece.  It was nothing special and retailed for about $50 new.  I listed it at $25 and was shocked, but happy, when it ended for $75.

On the other hand, holy crap, that's three times what this thing is worth.  And I'm pretty sure it's not legal to sell roms on ebay.  I don't know how SmokeMonster doesn't feel a little dirty after this level of ripping someone off.

That's the point that I and NW were trying to make. But his response is continuously just, "I put the bid at this, and it went for this".

Also for the record, I don't really care if any of you sell your ED's from this GB. You bought it so you can do what you wish. But selling it for butttons of money is another thing. I'd hope you don't try to rip people off inadvertently or intentionally.

I don't mind the profiteering so much, as nothing came from pcefx, anyone with a modicum of intelligence can put together such a package on their own, and he's not trying to sell 'em here at the discounted price of only $350 (DrOJ deals, brah!).

And you keep repeating that I'm both psychic and preying on people by starting an auction at retail.

To upgrade all of my Everdrives I meant. I have them for almost every console they're made for, so buying a wholesale order seemed like a good way to get mine at discount and sell the extras and help make up the costs.

EDIT: Wait... Well, upon further review, I do not like this reseller... Thumbs down... If you need this update, send your TEDs back to him using this form: http://krikzz.com/return_form.txt

No, I stand by everything I said - it's accurate. You paid the wholesale rate, so you got 'em at $63 each plus shipping just like we did with the group buy. Your markup is no better than anybody else by starting it at $79 except that you added the plastic shell which is a $11-20 value (depends) - so it's more defensible of a markup, that's fine! And the full copy+paste ROM collection is freely available by us here and elsewhere, so that really shouldn't have added more value. However, it's your *intentional* omission of information that is the problem!

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Turbo-EverDrive-V2-2-TurboGrafx-16-PC-Engine-Custom-Shell-8GB-SD/321809395098

So now the auction is over and a big-spending fool dropped $359 (because of his competitor counterpart fool - 2 or more fools) all because of ignorance, lacking information in your auction and so forth... You did prey on them, it was not in your interest to refer them to where these items can consistently be purchased at the same price and where to go for a plastic cover... So yeah, thumbs down on you... This is my polite "reseller roast" BTW, I don't want nullity accusing me of being a conductor on a hate train. ;)

At another level, you don't want krik seeing the results of these big-spenders cause then he might just decide to say, "Well, these PCE guys got fat wallets, I guess I can raise my prices some more and they'll pay out like they should..."

Anyway, congrats on a $359 big win!

EDIT: I guess it does beg the question, why did you waste Tucci's time by joining our group buy ?? That's another shipment he had to make, and another slight loss on S/H he took being generous to PCE/PCEFX members... He was already taking a loss shipping to us being a nice guy by $1-2 bucks each, and that was before the whole mix up, which added more shipping costs to him... In other words, he charged nothing for his time, but also donated some to shipping costs. I guess you got the reselling idea later, but still, you wasted his time and money on a buddy deal for yours...

You don't need an 8 GB microSD card though, that's wasteful, a 2 GB is overkill as well, and that's only $1 with shipping from China or $2-3 bucks retail at say a MicroCenter or other computer stores... But yeah, plenty of low-information big-spending nuts to cash in on it seems... :/

Which he said is not a markup, but it is! Heh. Anyway, that's not the criticism, that's everybody's markup after paying $63 each at wholesale rates when ordering 10+. He added a microSD card and a plastic shell, so his $79 resale markup starter is very good! However, the deliberate omission of information in the auction is where the issue lies! So once this $359 auction "winner" finds out that he could've purchased it for $79 retail right from the source, and that plastic shell is anywhere from $10 to $25, he's gonna be pretty pissed!

SmokeMonster is a predator of low-information big-spending fools and I also don't get why he wasted Tucci's time on the buddy deal for one flashcart from our group buy... If the auction linked to krik's shopping website, then all bidders would've had access to more information about the product's features as well as what it consistently retails for. But if he did that, he risked them not paying out like the fools that they are... So yeah, thumbs down!

I said about ten times that I started the auction at retail, which is 20% over wholesale. If I say it again jtucci's head is going to explode.

If the auction linked to krik's shopping website, then all bidders would've had access to more information about the product's features as well as what it consistently retails for.
"Krikzz.com" appeared front and center in three of the auction's pictures and literally every Google search for Everdrive takes you to their source.

What info you choose to omit (as well as include) in an auction/sale can be just as important to maximize profit.

Which he said is not a markup, but it is!
I said about ten times that I started the auction at retail, which is 20% over wholesale. If I say it again jtucci's head is going to explode.
I'm referring to what you told me. You said this:
Except I didn't mark anything up. I started the auction at $79.
If I buy it at $63 wholesale, then resell at $79, that is a $16 markup. However, you include a plastic shell and microSD card, so compared to other resellers and krik himself, that's a good deal starting off... My criticism is NOT in your markup, so nevermind that. It's the omission of links, further info, etc. and thus relying upon some ignorance of potential bidders and it got you a very nice result from a profit standpoint...

Quote
"Krikzz.com" appeared front and center in three of the auction's pictures and literally every Google search for Everdrive takes you to their source.
There's no linking to him or further information in the listing. It's merely coincidental that krik printed his website on the flashcart and you have to zoom in to see it. You wouldn't have added the link for the bidder if it wasn't there of course. Nothing about the cheapness of the plastic shells is linked to or mentioned either, so the bidders could've thought that made it as valuable as they were willing to pay. They also might've thought it's hard to collect ROMs which many will give away for free, etc. So yeah, you profited on a lack of information and ignorance on the bidders...

My rating for you is still... Thumbs down. ;)

SmokeMonster:

You are slimy. I don't like you. Why?

Because you prey on ignorance.

You know who preys on ignorance?

a$$holes. Douchebags. Car Salesmen.

IT MAY BE DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND, considering what a sleazy, unctuous car-salesman you are, BUT TAKING ADVANTAGE OF SOMEONE reflects more on YOUR ETHICS than on another's stupidity.

ANYONE WHO EXCUSES  your selling practices is also a douchebag (sorry guys) because whether or not a buyer is ignorant/stupid is IMMATERIAL, because I judge a seller by the seller's actions.

I am sorry if I hurt anyone's feelings, but you are clueless if you think you can excuse a$$holeRY by blaming the ignorance of a buyer.

JUDGE A PERSON BY HIS/HER ACTIONS.

I practice what I preach: that is why I've called many of you douchebags.

I am also melting at the public pool (Jesus it is an inferno out here) and I am feeling particularly trollish/angry.

My kids don't want to go home. So I am just gonna get crankier

And crankier.

I wouldn't say a sleazy used car salesman is entirely analagous, as he's not turning back the odometer or otherwise misrepresenting what's for sale.

Oh, that distinction doesn't matter: I can tell what a person is like, ethically, based on the pattern of their actions and (in this case) selfish motives. SmokeMaster is not much different than the slime who try to scam the elderly, preying on their ignorance. See my example below :)

FOR EXAMPLE: Imagine that the buyer backs out of the deal. Does this somehow make the seller LESS of a douchebag?

ANSWER: Hell no. The seller is still a douchebag, because he absolutely would have proceeded with the transaction, had it been possible.

And if there was only one bidder and it sold for $79, would he be the same douchebag?  Or what if he sent it out with a blank SD card and a cover made out of an old matchbook cover, would it still not matter?  You make no sense.
Title: Re: TED Group Buy Round 2! ORDERED!

It's the general sin of omission that you see by resellers for me. I grew up hating resellers in my teens because I live near a small Korea town section which also has many Indian wholesale businesses that would let me shop there illegally. One business that deals in hand tools sold me 24" pipe wrenches for $10 flat while at the local Ace hardware the markup was $79 bucks... Those wrenches were very useful to me and got me out of jams many times, so I was very thankful. I also used to hang around a resale shop having befriended the owners, one of which was shady, so I watched the "buy low/sell high" method at work for a long time... Just as an aside, I don't have the personality to do that kind of living, it makes me feel icky...

Anyway, to your point, since he omits much in his listing, it's an indicator that he wants a bidding/buying population as uninformed/ignorant as possible because that equals more payoff. That reflects on his character as a reseller. I think a truly honest/forthright reseller should've linked both to krik and info on the plastic shell in the listing, etc. Less omission and more information instead. So then regardless of the outcome, one bid for $79 or crazies ending it at $359, I couldn't levy any criticism against him - it'd be all at the bidders...

Like I said, it is not difficult to discern a person's ethics, given the info we have.

I am not going to concern myself with every gradation  of douchebaggery when the general category "douchebag" is sufficient.

I, of course, am not preventing you from distinguishing the lite-,minor-, medium, major-, ultra-, etc. gradations of douchebaggery.

They are all douchebags.

Or, if you prefer—"slimy", as in "unethical"...

As in...I can't trust you. You crossed the line. It doesn't matter if only your selfish little toe crossed it, but you did something that an ethical person would not do.

You see?

I don't use douchebag lightly.

I don't use a$$hole lightly, either.

There was nothing unethical about my auction. I put a nice package together, listed the auction at the correct price, and lots of people bid the hell out of it past. Anything else that you add to the interpretation is your own personal baggage.

If anyone wants to buy the two group buy v2.2s that I got, they're yours for $65/shipped (what I paid). I'll also include a free V2-fitted 3D printed shell for them (no SD card). This is simply out of respect to jtucci, who was generous enough to put it together. I don't want anyone to feel like I took their place in the group buy because I later went on to place my own wholesale order. PM me if you want one or both of them.

YOUR SELLING PRACTICE is unethical:

(1) YOU WERE SELLING ROMS, and don't try to claim otherwise.

(2) YOU PREY ON IGNORANCE, and don't try to claim otherwise.

(3) I could go on, but I'll stop.

Own up to it. I have more respect for someone who is honest about their selling tactics and motives than someone who tries to make up bullshit.

I will still condemn your slimy tactics, but at least you are not pretending to be an honest, ethical seller.

FOR THE CONFUSED:
There are many industries/selling practices  that I find unethical, yet they are still completely "legal" in the United States, at least.

I ABSOLUTELY ABHOR when sellers prey on a person's FEARS, INSECURITIES, IGNORANCE, etc. (diet/exercise programs, get rich quick infomercials, herbal supplements, etc etc)...

...you can imagine what I think of people involved in marketing products aimed at children...

you cant sell them period even if you "include them at no cost!"

your damage control sucks you should have stuck to the story where you wanted to break even with everdrives by flipping them with your shells and stickers. That's a good excuse. You trying to come up with an answer for every attack reveals more your motive in the first place.

That's just plain intellectually dishonest.

Yeah, as Ope points out, throwing the ROMs into the mix to up the value by convenience factored into the result of a bidder who may not know how easy they are to obtain, etc.

In some sense, you did not do much different from most resellers. Withhold/omit/don't bother to put all the facts on the table. It's like that new app about buying cars and its selling point that you should know what the car dealership paid for the car that you want when you walk in before you attempt to do business with a car salesman and barter if possible. All of that information is something they would prefer you don't know and to just "trust" them...

You don't stand for a more educated public because there's more money to be made by cashing in on ignorance/lacking information/etc... I prefer to see resellers of the mindset of say, "My prices are the best, I will beat my competitors pricing, I provide all possible information when I sell or auction something, I want my customers to be happy doing business with me and not be left with a sour taste afterwards, etc."

When I sold my V1 TurboEverdrive on Facebook, I put everything on the table. I said it's like new, its only had a couple of hours of usage playing HuZero on my Express, and the reason I'm trying to unload it is because krik revealed he's developing V2 with faster load times and possible Arcade Card support, etc.! I provided a link to his shopping website to make sure that was seen because some people have paid more by buying it from the shopping websites of resellers like StoneAgeGamer (though I think they matched krik's retail price now, nevermind the Deluxe version pricing which is an attempt to add further value), etc.

So, having put all the info on the table, the buyer knew everything, stated he was fine with the slower load times of this old version, and he wanted to save a few bucks from buying a totally new one, etc. I also gave him Bernie's ROM pack and guided him on set up, so it all went smooth. All that for ~$70 bucks minus $5 on shipping. Took a loss, but that's OK, so did Tucci giving buddy deals and later galam and BlackTiger donating to me meant I got V2 free anyway, thus no complaints on my part!

Anyway, the point is, that buyer can never come back to me and say, "Hey NightWolve, you screwed me! You suck, I'm glad X.X.XSEED screwed you too!" No, I didn't, I put everything on the table, relevant link for existing retail from the manufacturer source, reason for reselling, that it was working fine 100%, only a few hours of usage, etc.

Your crazy bidder on the other hand, assuming he visits krik's website some day and finds the $79 retail for it, and later finds the various plastic shells that work with it for $11-$25, he's gonna feel like a jackass... $359!!!!!!!! He and 2 others it appears were somehow desperate and bid it up to that crazy amount... I would love to question him to find out what it was, was it the ROMs, was it the shell that he thought was so valuable, what was it ??? But, we'll never know, and it's not your interest to inform him of his ignorance.

So yeah, nothing I read changes my rating for you. It is still...thumbs down!

It's my plan for the remaining TED auctions that I have to sell to add direct links to krikzz, remove the roms from the equation, and link Sculpteo and the 3D files. They're off for updating from krikzz now so the TG16 issues will be off the table as well.
