I have an idea.
I've never done any sort of rom hacking or text editing or anything, so I'm not sure of my ability to do this myself, but has anyone ever thought of going in & properly translating Exile?
Ideally, one could add a bit of creative liberty & also un-censor the religious and drug-related content. However, if you wanted to keep it simple, you could always just copy & paste the text from the Turbografx version. Just a thought. Anyone ever consider this?

Well remember the TurboGrafx version was a CD. So just the actual space for the text might have been some type of memory constraint.
With that said I've not played far into the Genesis version of it. I'm not sure if the censored content was entirely removed from the ROM or not.

The Turbo/PCE and MD versions seemed to not have identical windows of text. So you could use WD's spotty translation as a reference, but you'd still have to figure out which sections are which before swapping them out. Also, the cart games may very well draw from a single script file, but CD games load different content each time.

While the Turbo version is obviously superior, I'd be content with working with the Genesis version. I may see if I can extract the text from the Japanese version & attempt my own translation, if such a feat is feasible...

Even if it simply makes the game playable for those who have a phobia of "moon language", it would be worth it. But playing through either English version once first is all anyone should need to zip through the MD version. I'm pretty sure that I didn't actually read anything or even have to use any items.

You have to talk to a grand total of what, 6 people, to advance the plot.
It'd be interesting to see what the game is actually about. Not that the game can be classified as anything but "kinda based on true events" in a Hollywood sort of way.
