Looking to sell or trade my TG16 controllers, tap, and adapter/extension cable.
My girls and I were playing bomberman last night and while playing we all three had some sort of controller malfunction.
All pieces are in great shape and the controllers still have the clear film on them.
Asking $125 shipped or a trade on 5 duo controllers, one duo multi tap, and an extension cable.
-
Can you describe the malfunction? Were the buttons just not responsive? If so, you need to open them up and just clean the rubber and contacts with some alcohol.
-
You weren't using the extension cord between the system and tap, were you?
-
Good call Necro, yes you CANNOT use the the extension cord between the tap and system. You need extension cables for the controller themselves. I suspect they are not defective at all.
-
Damnit, just noticed I put this in the wrong section. :x
We couldn't move the characters, or they would move on their own. Or lay bombs without us pushing the buttons.
And yup, I had the extension between the tap and system. The system is sitting pretty far away from the couch.

i really didn't think they were defective. Just looking for a full set of PC engine things to replace them.

That's your issue right there. Get 4 more extension cords and might as well do a good internal cleaning.
They are NOT defective.
Good luck!
-
You can convert your controllers using these cables.

But I'll still need something between the tap and the system since the tap doesn't match the systems port.
-
Also, could someone please move this to the for sale section? Or do I just need to create a new post?
-
'Tis moved.
You could try swapping the tap's cable with one from a PCE controller (or tap).
-
Thanks.
So is it the adapter, or the extension part that is causing an issue?
-
It's probably the extension. You should be okay with a shorty adapter cable.

Okay, so then I need a short adapter for tap to system, then extensions from controller to turbo tap?
-
This is the best thread!

Okay, so then I need a short adapter for tap to system, then extensions from controller to turbo tap?
That should work, but there are no guarantees when it comes to tap signal problems.

Hmm so even if I were to get all PC duo pieces, but use an extension from tap to system,it may still not work?

Mitsu, I'm now confused what you're trying to do. Are you trying to use PCE peripherals on your American TG-16?

No, sorry for the confusion.
I have a PCE Duo. I'm currently using TG16 peripherals on it since I had a Tg16 before getting the duo. So to use those, I'm using an adapter/extension cable (TG16 to PCE Duo).
So I figured the best way to fix it all would be to just get rid of all of that and get all PCE duo stuff. But if any extension cause issues, then it seems I'm SOL.

Yeah, any extension cable (longer than a stubby converter cable) between the tap and the system is trouble; some have reported it working fine and dandy, but most have had problems like those you reported. Swapping in a controller's cord doesn't seem to have as many problems and replacement cables are relatively cheap, so it might be worth a shot.
-
You can also just make a reverse tap.
-
I've used an extension to the multitap plenty of times and never had any problems. Is this a common occurrence or bad or something?
-
I've never tried between the tap and system but know I've never had problems using them from the controller to the tap. And that's with a mix of controllers to a tg16 both U.S. and pce controllers with adapters

Same here. I have a 6ft official one . Works no problems. I've only tried 2 players though, not 3 or 4.
