Today's fun fact: John Romero is apparently having an eBay garage sale, including a boxed TG-16: http://www.ebay.com/sch/the_romero/m.html?item=271916881858&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

Don't forget the boxed Custer's Revenge.
-
Damnit, you lead me to eBay and I started bidding on things!! ](*,)
-
He's been listing stuff on eBay for a while now. I almost bought his Vectrex off of him. Ended up only going for like $80.
-
I don't believe the story about him buying it in 1990 though. The box has a 39.99 sticker on it.

Who the f*ck is John Romero?

One of the founders of ID with John Carmack and designer of Doom.
-
That's it. The point is, people only really care about John Carmack! :D
-
His lengthy hair was apparently the highpoint of internet gaming humor circa 1998. It was a dark time for jokes, indeed.

That's because Carmack was a decent guy who kept of doing good stuff ... and Romero was a self-promoting ass who thought that he was god's gift to gaming, left ID, and then went on to prove project after project that he was just an idiot that got very lucky the first time.

Shit just got real.
I'm guessing it sold already, I didn't even see it.
-
It sold for $222 I do believe.
-
While it was with box it seems to be missing the packin game and more importantly the back cover.

Yup, I noticed that too.
I can't believe it went over $100.

He always says that he'll autograph anything that he sells, so I'm guessing that some Doom fanboy was willing to pay more than market value for that Turbo because it was also coming with John Romero's John Hancock.
-
there is nothing celebrity about being just a founder of ID. big whoop. the programmers and designers are the ones that made it happen.
he is not a celebrity at all

. . .John Romero's John Hancock.

While normally I would agree with the sentiment of your post, he was heavily involved in both coding and design at iD.
From Wikipedia:
Romero worked at id Software from its incorporation in 1991 until 1996. He was involved in the creation of several milestone games, including Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D, Doom, Doom II: Hell on Earth and Quake.[4] He served as executive producer (and game designer) on Heretic and Hexen. He designed most of the first episode of Doom, most of the levels in Quake, half the levels in the Commander Keen, Wolfenstein 3D;Spear of Destiny. He wrote many of the tools used at id Software to create their games, including DoomEd (level editor), QuakeEd (level editor), DM (for deathmatch launching), DWANGO client (to connect the game to DWANGO's servers), TED5 (level editor for the Commander Keen series, Wolfenstein 3D; Spear of Destiny), IGRAB (for grabbing assets and putting them in WAD files), the installers for all the games up to and including Quake, the SETUP program used to configure the games, and several others.

^ ok but even then he is not autograph worthy. Not celebrity status imho.

Not to you (or me, if I'm being honest). But apparently to some people he is, based on the comments I see on his Facebook posts.

ANYONE who was involved with the DNA of ID deserves some appreciation, even if you don't like their public/private persona.
John Romero might be a goofball, but he helped code an awesome TG-16/PCE prototype:

Say, Wolfenball 3D was never released. But it did serve as a progenitor of the entire FPS/Doom paradigm.
