Title: GONE: Anybody have any use for these cords before I toss them?
Post by: bob on July 02, 2015, 04:06:00 PM
I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but I have no use for these and was going to throw them away.
If anybody wants to rescue them, $6 for shipping to USA-48.

Yes, I want. Is that a mini-DIN for PCE? Component to RGB?

I used to see those shorter cable a lot back when AGP video card were still the best.  Back then, you had a choice of regular VGA or component/S-Video (and separate composte adapter on that S-Video)

It could be repurposed as RGB and S-Video breakout once you figure the pinout.

The other cable is DVI-A to RGB and probably only used for 31Khz RGB/VGA displays. Such as the older projector lamp that didn't have 15 pin VGA or DVI port.  Not much use since DVI port isn't cheap and has too many pins for typical hack.

Ok, now that I know what type of cables these are, I will pass.

That component to DVI-I cable was also used the other was around, for projectors who lacked a component input but could receive component signals through the DVI-I connector. It need to be supported though by the projectors chips and enabled through a menu. It is a pretty useless cable for regular appliances, since most devices do not support such a configuration and there is no signal conversion involved. Those cables were pricy though when bought in brick-and-mortar stores. It might be worth putting it onto eBay, but beware of unknowingly buyers who might wrongly assume this cable would include a signal converter.

Ah yes, the other little breakout thingy, I used those for getting S-Video out of my old PC's AGP graphics card to have Youtube and PC games on my CRT TV, back in the day where smart TVs weren't the norm. My friends thought this was quite impressive. As with the other cable above, this is just a simple adaptor for devices that specifically support it, but no signal converter. These were mostly packed with graphics cards.

If not eBay, why not raffling them away instead of binning?
