Someone sent this to me to get some work done on it. This switch is freakin ridiculous.

I think that switch caused the California black outs of the early 2000s.

Holy crap! Where was that thing mounted?

It was mounted on top of the console, like a "shaker hood scoop" on a muscle car.

Rotary or sliding switch? It looks rotary to me. Also what is the connector for? Looks like 25 pin connector to me.
-
it's a rotary switch. the switch functions just fine so that's not why the person sent it to me. the system was in major need of a recap.
just thought it was wild finding such a large switch inside there when I opened it up. it barely fits in the usual area where most people would mount an 8PDT push button switch

Might as well swap out the power switch with this:

^ lmao
that rotary switch looks like its from the 1950's. Must be one of the earliest mod region switches. Probably modded back in the days when duo came out.

i bought a turbo duo off ebay that has one of those. it still works tho so i dont see a need to replace it. the only really annoying thing about it (other than it takes up all the available space inside the console) is that the switch actually has 3 positions on it (at least mine does). so it can be unclear which region you are in.

Heh, that beast is awesome. Bigger is better in 'merica!
schweaty: the third position is the Vistar setting.

Through the 1990s it was honestly not that easy to find a single switch that would do this job. Now we have multiple IC switches and whatnot, but in-period there wasn't any of that stuff in %90 of modded Duos. Half the time guys would gut the switches from old TVs and whatever since 8PDT switches don't generally have much use.

yep, has 3 positions like yours. However, whoever did the mod put some nice little labels on the rear of the system to show which setting is for which region.

Tis true.. I ended up just buying a 2nd console and hardwiring it to PCE mode after months of trying to procure a usable switch back in the 90's...

It looks like the same brand as the original 8pdt switches I used to use.
I recall when those ran out there were other variant that could work but obviously not ideal with 3 positions. lol

YES! That is a beautiful piece of 90s garage-tech!
