Macs have long been targeted for viruses. This really isn't a new thing.

"The exploit is especially troubling because now a phishing email or click on a link on a malicious site could compromise the computer."

It sounds to me like the macbook is still pretty safe if it's not owned by a moron.

To be fair, most computers are safe if they're not operated by a moron. I've had just two viruses in the past 15 years. The first back in 2002 or 2003 was before I had anti-virus software installed, the second because someone else was using the computer.

Problem is, most mac users are owned by morons (no offense Joe or any other mac users on this forum). lol Case in point, I have doctors who want to use macs to remote into a.... *drum roll* WINDOWS PC to do their work. About the dumbest thing ever. And yet they still want to use them even though it doesn't work half the time (the remoting in part). I guess they fall into the mindset its expensive so it must be better right?

That's true.  In two decades of computing at work and at home with anti-virus software going, there's only been maybe a half dozen intrusion attempts, all of which were spam email attachments.  Sure, I'll run that fake .jpg executable!!!

And there are no moronic Windows users?

If that's the case, this forum must be about %50 MacMorons because we have all sorts of great morons here.

And doctors! Oh shit, what idiots. What, with their 11 years of college and countless lives saved. Retards! I bet cjameslv must be a doctor. That guy is the dumb for sure. Probably a goddamned neurosurgeon  with a degree in bioethics or some such foolish thing. f*ck. When will they learn?

If you really want to dredge up played out as hell bullshit dichotomies, please do so in new and interesting ways. Bring something fresh to the table. We've all heard what homo spend thrifts Mac people are. We were hearing it in 198-f*cking-4. Please change the record.

The problem is that a lot of Mac users have a feeling of invincibility. There's very much a "I'm using a Mac, so I can't get infected" mentality that causes them to take risks the same users wouldn't if they were using a PC.

My point is, what's the point in getting a mac if you are going to use it to emulate/remote into a Windows box anyway? Kind of defeats the purpose no?

This is true. I have heard several people state.... I use apple products, so I don't worry about viruses.

A lot of the specialized software (scheduling, billing, medical records) that businesses used back in the day were for Windows.

Not sure if this has changed much.

Assuming they used their computers for other things, the doctors would still benefit from having a Mac.  It simply wouldn't be 100% of the time.

I use Windows all day at work. If I had to continue that experience at home I'd certainly just skip owning a computer. I've had enough Windows at the end of the day. Similarly, if I used a sewing machine all day, or shoed horses, or gave blowjobs in back allies, I'd want a break from that too.

It sounds to me like the macbook is still pretty safe if it's not owned by a moron.

First off...who f*cking cares? So they don't know computers well. Your penmanship sucks. Do I complain? We can't all be experts on everything, and most IT guys I know aren't exactly Bruce Dickenson.

Secondly, if you had read the article you'd know that this very serious flaw was patched by Apple before its existence was even known by anyone but the hackers that found it. This particular flaw is moot. It literally never happened to any user. "Feel safe now!?!" Yeah, I kinda still do. I know *this* exact exploit, the one this smart ass corporate loyalist started this thread for for no good reason, is never going to work on me. Shit, I don't even have this exact era of MacBook so it never mattered to me personally anyway.

Macs are less popular. This is why they get fuxored so much less often. The actual security of Windows and OSX both is insane now, but there is never going to be an unhackable computer so if you are the target you will be at risk. This is why iPhone malware is so advanced. Because people buy the shit out of iPhones and love to watch porn on them. Macs are only %10 of Apples business now. Nobody gives a shit enough about them to write decent malware, so the poor Windows guys get it instead. The technical shit isn't even really a factor anymore, I'm not sure it ever was. It's all about market share.

Don't be a shill. These aren't DC hardcore bands or ethnic armies, they are f*cking computer companies. Giant corporations that don't give one shit about you at all. They only want you to buy their shit. That's it. Rooting for one over the other is idiotic. You look like a goddamned stooge when you do. Find something worthwhile to be fanatical about, like tantric sex or Jesus or PC Engine. This is for chumps.

Not in a clustered Windows Server 2012 R2 remote desktop environment, it's half assed at best. Macs have problems connecting to a clustered environment, so the work around is to have them connect to a single RD host that may or may not work half the time due to load balancing issues. Sure you can run Microsoft Office on a Macbook. Great. Try to find clinical or lab software to run on a Mac and it simply doesn't exist. I know Macs are great for video editing and such, but attempting to use them for health care seems pointless. Now if you use a Ipad that's a different story (lots of mobile apps, remote desktop actually works in a clustered environment). I didn't mean to make this into a Mac bashing thread but dealing with the end users at work who stubbornly want to use Macbooks to do their work when the company offers them free of charge to use a high end Windows machine that will allow them to get on 99% of the time (assuming they aren't dumb about using the vpn and have a solid connection) to their remote desktop environment. Even if they were able to do their work locally, I don't think HIPPA compliance allows for any patient information to be stored locally hence the push in the industry to use remote desktop connections (kind of a throwback to the IBM days).

Hah! I had both OS/2 and Win 3.11 on my first own computer.

All computers are full of bullshit.

What is funny to me though is, OSX has become a synonym for Mac computers.

OSX itself is fine.  I just don't like the hardware that comes with it since it's overpriced and kind of retarded looking.

I also don't like the cult-douche mentality.

Anyone who uses like, FreeBSD or something and then makes fun of OSX, is basically just being a dipf*ck.

Well, OSX is BSD easy mode...it's a bit deserved and a bit jealousy...plus who the f*ck runs just BSD these days?!!?!
