its a diode, but its not the issue
the board is wet from the aluminum cap leaking
the black traces fail from cap fluid
-
I replaced the cap and cleaned the residue. Still no working button...

Have you tried making sure the rapid fire contacts are bent down enough? Sometimes they get bent upwards in which case they don't make a good connection to the motherboard.
If that doesn't work you can try bridging a wire across these two points. (http://s16.postimg.org/qvv27il6d/Untitled.png) (http://postimage.org/)
images hosting (http://postimage.org/)
Maybe check with a multi-meter first to see if there is continuity between them. You would have to scrape the black circular parts to get down to something that can be solered to. I've had to do this many times to get buttons working again.
Any chance you can take another pic of the board with the residue removed?

Terribly sorry to thread hijack but is anyone else getting www. wiids .co .uk malware warnings on just this thread?
-
Yeah, wow, never saw Google Chrome's malware block in action like that! Yeah, I'm getting a block too!

EDIT: The malware infected site is unclebugspayton's avatar link. That's why it's not showing up...
wiids .co.uk .. /wp-content/uploads/2009/09/bonk-image-01.jpg
@New Guy: Please change your avatar link... (Way to make an impression BTW.)
@Xalph: Edit the wiids link in your post above to not be a link anymore to prevent browsers from flagging that also assuming New Guy changes his avatar link. Removing the www. should stop it from getting anchor-tagged by SMF.

I did this instead. Still nothing (http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/15/54239bdb876eb341372beb03d65a8ec8.html)

Yo, homie, you, unclebugspayton, do you read much ?
Change or remove your avatar link!!! The webhost you're linking has been flagged by browsers as delivering malware!!!!
wiids .co.uk <-- that, in your forum profile, remove it! Thank you...

Re:Malware link in your avatar!! Remove Please.
I'm trying but it won't remove.
You're good, all fixed, no more malware blocks by the browser... Whatever the Bonk avatar was, you'll have to find another. Heh.

Thanks dude

check it with a meter
it looks like your button contact may have been damaged by the fluid (same trace)
could also be on the rubber part

Good call.
Yep problem resolved now. Good luck on fixing your express.

Try running some sand paper lightly over the rapid fire pads on the board. They may be dirty or not making a good connection anymore.
You should really be testing this stuff with a multi-meter to find out what is needed instead of just guessing.

Done fixed!!! Thank you guys!!!(http://images.tapatalk-cdn.com/15/08/15/229225e2e378f75b2338b0a4f75d6e35.html)
