Title: Introduction
Post by: chemdream on August 19, 2015, 01:21:47 PM
Hi all. This is my first post.

I'm from Detroit. Actually, Aaron and I used to email a lot in the 90s about TG16 stuff.

I'm very active on KLOV, using the same user name.

I hope to trade a lot with you all!

Howdie.  That's a nice collection of cabinets you've got there, congrats.  Do you have any photos of your collection online, I'd love to see some of those cabs!

Welcome, comrade.

Play the games.
Talk about them.
Obey them.

Welcome!  Nice to have someone else on here close (I'm in Toledo).  Have you ever got any cabs from the dude in Roseville?

Thanks all. I'll post some photos of my arcade room soon! The centipede is currently in pieces. I'll wait till that's put together to take more photos.

I've gotten a few cabs and parts from  3 people in the roseville area. Tony, Danny, and... Some other guy that had 2 large storage units FULL of cabs!

if I could have any 1, original cab in my house, it would be Tron.

That Tron cab is my favorite!

Actually, with Tron 3 getting cancelled, I think Tron cabs have dropped a bit in resale value.

You can probably get one for the price of a turbo duo...

I will trade you a turbo duo for yours.  PM me to arrange shipping of the cab at your expense.
thanks

Welcome!  There are also a lot of arcade fans here as well as turbo/pce fans.  I am poor  and lack the space so I only have a supergun.  There are quite a few with multiple cabs here.  We would love to see pics. :)

And I just settle for MAME + Hanaho Hotrod (http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=13702.msg272507#msg272507). :) In hindsight, I guess I should've bought the USB model instead though - I chose the PS/2 model because I thought it was hardcore cool to be able to boot in full DOS mode and run the DOS version of MAME for maximum performance. Was needed sometimes, but I probably didn't use it as much to justify getting the PS/2 model and USB wound up being a good, lasting standard.

Welcome!

And since you are from Detroit I must ask: Is it really as scary, violent, and desolate as everyone says?

Welcome!

And since you are from Detroit I must ask: Is it really as scary, violent, and desolate as everyone says?

I can answer that.

The core of the city - yes. Without a doubt.  It is in crisis.

However, the suburbs are among the richest in America, and there are many beautiful areas around the city.

Welcome!

And since you are from Detroit I must ask: Is it really as scary, violent, and desolate as everyone says?

I can answer that.

The core of the city - yes. Without a doubt.  It is in crisis.

However, the suburbs are among the richest in America, and there are many beautiful areas around the city.

I played a hockey tournament near Detroit in 2008. The area we landed, and where the rink is, was very very nice. We instantly thought that the rumers about Detroit were a lie, so the next day after our games we went to go check out the Joe Louis Arena and the other sight seeing things. It was not great, but didn't seem much worse than the bad areas of LA or SD, so I was not scared and felt comfortable there. That evening when we left, we got lost on the freeway and exited to get directions.

Dilapidated shack likes houses, destroyed buildings (piles of rubble like they demoed it and never cleaned up) and people just standing around on the corners for no apparent reason - ok it was a bit more sketchy but maybe it's a crew meeting up to go somewhere, whatever. We went in the nearest gas station liqueur store, behind the counter was a wall of security camera monitors, showing the exterior of the building facing toward and away the building, and in front of the counter was a what seemed like a inch thick glass partition and a slide out drawer for transactions. The guy behind the counter said  "why are you here?" before we could even ask for directions, and he said get out of there and gave us directions to "a better area". He seemed generally concerned for our safety.

There were other stories from the trip, but that certainly explained to me that there are very nice areas of Detroit, and there are very very bad areas of Detroit.

Edit: Welcome to the forum Grolt, always fun to meet another new-comer! :)

Detroit has changed a lot over the past few years. In the 90s, it was lawless. I could seriously do whatever I wanted. From 1999-2006 I managed a music studio downtown. There would be many times where I would be the only person in site, on a giant city block, surrounded by tall buildings. I felt like it was my personal city.

But now many people have moved back. Tons of new businesses have opened. It is actually really safe. Honestly, it's a bit annoying. I miss my personal city!!

I'll try not to hold that against you. Looking at your cabs of choice, I can see why to go there. But I do like Tron! Don't be afraid to offer up PCB trades, just make sure it's in the "Console Sales & Trades" section :)
