A friend is asking to buy my Beyond Shadowgate. I always kept my stuff in good condition. I'm the first owner and all manuals and posters are basically untouched. At worst the condition for everything is 8/10 but I'd say it is 9/10 just because it's opened and used. How much do you guys think it is worth? I've seen it listed on eBay for $600 in the past. Thanks for your help!
-
Welcome to the forums. In the real world its a £€50 game. I have 17 spares I stole off an episcopal monk. Would you like one?
-
very funny alt/troll account null. And being the first one to respond is the icing on the cake.
-
Why doesn't your friend just get the Tobias version?
-
I can assure you I'm a different person. Idk how I can prove it though.
-
I plan on selling a copy here as soon as I can take pictures for less than a third of that price. If this person really is a friend, then 'as high as' prices should be irrelevant and you should offer it to him for less than people sell here for, which is less than eBay. If you have to ask what to sell something for, it's definitely not worth too much to you, so you should just be more concerned about doing your friend a favor.
Asking prices and suspicious one-off spikes on eBay aren't an indication of what a game is worth to the average person. The last two plausible sales on eBay went for $255 and $331:

Well he became a friend bc he found me through Craigslist. I already sold him a bunch on stuff for fair prices. I enjoy living vicariously through him as he devotes a huge part of life to going out and collecting these things. He's been asking for this game and a few others I was hanging on to because I warned him these were the last treasures I owned and could not give him good prices on these if I were to ever part with it. What made me decide to part with it was I think I found an alternative way to play them.
-
No, what made me come here was a post on fb for old game collectors. I showed it off and a guy said:
@ ------ I think somebody on pcenginefx has one for sale but it isn't cheap man.
So I came to see how much it went for but I can't find it. Figured I'd just ask.
-
If you want to sell to a guy who you know and refer to as a friend, find a reasonable price and don't worry about what jerks on ebay are asking for. If you want to gauge $600 from an idiot collectard from Craig's List without a care because he isn't really a friend? Fine, see if you can sell out and take him for a ride.
Either way, joining a group with the no intention other than finding out what the most you can hawk your stuff for is rather rude.

The joy of CL Casual Encounters and CD-R. :D
Aw man! You beat me to the punch lol

All I can find on craigslist is women who want my email to send spam to.

Your game is worth $600 (9/10, very good condition)
Your game is worth $900 (8/10, good condition + flan)
The patina actually adds value, especially if the jewel case is encrusted with flan.

Did he ask for a picture of you charging a JO crystal by any chance?

The game still needs to end up on eBay by the end of the day with a BIN of $1200 obo

Worth nothing. Some years ago one local Big Lot store had a batch of NOS games out. 99 cents each. I cleaned out everything they had on TG-16 stuff and still sitting on oh about 40 cases of Beyond Shadowgate. Each case holds a dozen I think.
-
Not CD-R but same ballpark. I was a huge Turbo fan and used to have a decent collection but a trip to Japan about 8 years ago convinced me all the systems and games I had weren't worth as much as I thought. It was so plentiful up there. Dracula X was like 2000 yen used and had multiple copies. There were stacks of used Pc-engine Super CD systems. So when my DUO conked out and I didn't know you could repair it, I started selling the games that had remakes. (For example Dracula X came out on PSP). Games like Beyond Shadowgate, I held onto until I knew I could play it again.

Jokes, brought to you by the dick of DoxPhile, you know who you are :P

Hmmm, another one of the "What's it worth?" threads. There should be some kind of rule that you can't post in the sales section without first posting 50 posts elsewhere first. Might help weed this annoyance out.
How much is my copy of Gunboat worth? it's loose and might not be completely white, but it's been sitting at the bottom of a box in a stinky gym sock making it a one of a kind copy! It's R@R3Z!

Something like that might be a good way to scare them of... :-k
can accounts be locked from creating topics in the buy/sell thread
until user have enough posts :?:
i think i remember seeing something like that on some forums..

You know... I have kind of taken the JO crystal thing and run with it. But ot was HailingTheThings who introduced us to the JO crystal phenomenon, and Galam who associated it with DoxPhile.
Let us take a moment to appreciate the HTT/Galam power couple for bringing this joy to our lives.
If I wouldn't have posted the og cl ad, I'm sure someone else would have eventually. hehe

It doesn't matter if a minimum post count for various sections is added to the rules, since new members never read them.
Too many people make their first post in one of the trade sections with comments like "Hey homos! Anyone kno where I can buy cheep Jap games or download free isos!!!!??"
Most raffles are spammed by new members who can't be bothered to even read the few sentences in the opening post which detail minimum post counts to enter. When told they don't qualify, many act offended and/or state their intention to sidestep the technicality by padding their post count, because of "all the raffles".
-
Yeah, I know all of this too. It's why I stopped with the raffles. I got tired of wading through all the junk. I understand enthusiasm for your, ahem, hobby and allo, but I'd rather the stuff go to long standing members of the community. That's where the heart and soul of any forum and group lies...it is what it is, I suppose. I may have a raffle or two coming here soon though. Only time and circumstance will tell.
Next Beyond Shadowgate raffle I am jumping into though. I miss the game...

I go to Gamedude quite often. The only time I have ever seen a Beyond Shadowgate there was when I worked there over 20 years ago. Just saying. They are only an hour from me, so yeah. Just funny how about 10 years ago, Gamedude was the scourge of the Retro Gaming world due to the silver stickers on the games and the overpricing. Now, because prices are so out of control on evilBay, they are so cool because they are so far below "Markeyt Value"....
Gamedude is cool. If you think the price lists are neat, you really need to see the store. Easily the most awesome game store in Southern California.

He missed my favorite: Post buy/sell stuff in PC-FX section.
I'll give him bonus points for using four different IP addresses thus far.

Cool lucky you get all the ladies! This is the new reason to on craigslist!

Beyond shadowgate huh....does it come with smegma? That is a guaranteed sale if so.

The difference between ebay and "buddy buddy" prices these days is very small. Go to ebay, look up how much these are selling for at highest price. Then list it BUYITNOW for like $1 less of that price. You are not required to sell your games for cheap prices.

You're not required to be a tool either.

Man, no wonder you don't have any buddies.

No shit, right? What a goofball. I guess he isn't required to be a nice guy either...makes sense with a name like "Tool".

Here is tool's very first post!
Hello everyone! I been long time into retro gaming and recently been working on upgrading my US Turbografx collection. Joined this forum to trade, sell and buy turbo stuff and other retro game related stuff as well. Ebay is way overpriced for me, so looking to spend time in For Sale sections in pretty much every Retro Gaming forum online. My Turbo collection is not that big. About 20 games, US console and I also have a Turbo Express which I never play and will be willing to trade if the deal is right. Basically to start, I'm looking to complete the entire US HuCard library. I also collect TOOL records, CD's, cassettes and memorabilia. Big Tool fan. So if you have any of these I'm willing to make some trades happen as well. Anyways to make long story short, glad to be here and hopefully I can buy some stuff I need without having to pay stupid ebay prices.

Yup, because he is a fan of big Tools...REALLY big tools. The kind that make you walk funny after they were used.

I got to go there last year when I was in LA on business. Definitely a cool store.

Yeah. I miss working there. Out of High school it seemed like a great idea until the commute kills you. Driving an hour plus one way just to work in a Video Game store part time ended up being a nightmare. It was fun though. One of the more fun jobs I ever had. I don't know which was better, the Gamedude or the3 Video Store. Too bad Video Stares are a thing of the past now as I'm a perfect fit in those. Yes though, Gamedude is something to see. You can see the price lists and such, but it's nothing until you have stood in the store. People never believe me how big it actually is until they see it, like I'm just making crap up along the way. Still, from when I worked there about 20 years ago or so, there's still two people there that still work there from my time...LOL. Incredible.

You ever been to Japan? I've never been to Game Dude but from what I've seen in pictures and from what you describe sounds like a bunch of stores I've seen in Japan. I used to wonder how they stay in business because it doesn't really seem like retro collecting is big there. Kinda just seems like most people buy old used stuff to actually play it. The stores for collectors were small in Akiba. The store that just had a huge used area were Gigantic all over the place.

Nope, never been to Japan. And no, Retro gaming collecting really isn't that big here, although it is getting bigger, sadly. Most of the people here actu7ally play their games...
As for how Gamedude stays in business? it has it's clientele, not to mention it's reputation. People come in from out of state just to visit the store, as funny as that is. Not to mention you can order stuff through the internet and over the phone. Gamedude also carries DVD and Bluray movies, so there is a whole other secti9on to hit too. The store does very well because they take care of those that they cater to. I always hear people bitch about how rude this person or that person was like they were in a hurry, and it may be the case because the store get's extremely busy at times...like stupid busy. No offense to some of the people that call too, they act stupid when they do, like the clerk will ask what games are you looking for, and the caller won't give a list, they just want the guy to check each game one at a time...don't have time for that. Just give them the list of what you want...it goes quicker.
