So lately every time I put in a game either I get no jump or I have to switch the a button to turbo and back to normal a couple times for it to work fine. Does this happen a lot or is my controller dying and I have to get a new one
-
Sounds like a bad connection within the controller. I would take it apart and clean the connectors on that button and the turbo switch.
These old controllers tend to get quite dirty, being in the hands of kids and all. Over 20 years, they can start to give problems, so just clean it up.

Just cleaned it and still same problem. I think I'm just going to have to buy anotger tg16 controller.

It could be the connection inside. Looks like black traces that goes over regular PCB traces, they can fail. If you can use ohm meter, try using that and check both end, one at button contact pad and one at the IC chip or switch pads. If you get anything buy 0 ohms and you have the right connection, it could be bad trace.

I wiped and cleaned everything down and took out the connector and plugged it back in. Case close. Everything works great now. Thanks for the help

I having the same problem, Mas. The "right" on the d-pad won't respond, but "up," "down," and "left" will. What did you use to clean your controller? I am a newb to opening electronics up, so any suggestions no matter how "common sense" they are would be appreciated. :-"
