Howdy everyone,
This is my first post here and I hope this is the right forum for it. Let me know (politely!) if this is against any rules or whatever.
I am here to respectfully ask for your help in getting the name of an old TurboGrafx 16 / PC-Engine game:
1 - The game was an action/platformer - medieval-fantasy
2 - It may have been Non-North American (Uncle is Chinese, game might have been Japanese?)
3 - Involved fighting a giant boss that was a rock golem / rock man - I think I defeated him by standing on his shoulder and hitting his head.
4 - There was a level where you could ride on bees / dragon flies / flying insects of some kind, i think you used the stinger of the creature to attack the enemies
I am sorry but that is all that I can remember, its been more than 20 years and it was my Uncle's - he lost it and the console during a move (i think my aunt tossed it for him, helpfully so i'm sure lol)
I have very fond memories of playing this game and would love to find it again. I have searched/googled about for months now and haven't come across anything. I don't even remember if it was on CD or card, though I'm pretty sure he had some CD based games too.
-
Sounds like you are mixing up some elements while remembering Jacki Chan's Action Kung Fu.

Other than riding on bees, it sounds kinda like Shape Shifter (http://www.thebrothersduomazov.com/2009/04/shape-shifter.html).
-
Maybe Shubibinman 3? Isn't the final boss a golem like that? And I believe there is a bug-riding level.
-
thank you all very much! i checked out the suggested titles on youtube and I do not believe nay of them match :(
I am starting to think my memory is corrupted and I am mixing some things up. I was VERY little back then, probably about 3-5 years old. I only really remember that ONE game, or at least I think of it just being a single game.
The closest that I can find is Legendary Axe II but its not exactly what I remember... again, I am grateful for all suggestions still and won't stop looking! lol
its like a quest, except instead of saving the world or curing some ailing relative, i'm going to probably find some grotty old game that i will be embarrassed to say I loved lol
-
Do you remember if it was cartoony like Dynastic Hero or more "realistic" / arcade-like like Radtan Saga?
-
Monster Lair?
-
Monster Lair?
I'm thinking this one as well.
But odds on the OP will say "no" to this as well. And most likely reason being, as Black Tiger alluded to, he is mixing elements from different games and remembering them as one.
-
it was more realistic than cartoony
i do apologize if i have mixed up some details in my memory - i am watching rastan saga 2 right now and while it does look interesting, i kinda doubt it as well - does look kinda similar to what I remember however - just like Legendary Axe II does
i have also checked out monster lair, its not that either unfortunately :(
i will say this however: the golem boss that i remember, I believe it starts out as some rocks and then either assembles or stands up to fight you. i recall the trick to defeating it was to stand on it's shoulder and just bash it's head.

It sure sounds like GranZort, although that was a SuperGrafx game (and no bees)

Tiger Road / Tora e no Michi might be another possibility.
-
Oh my goodness - I'm pretty sure the golem that I remember is from Mado King Granzort
That is a SuperGrafx game too. So at this point I am totally willing to say the search is over mainly because my memory is corrupted. Thank you all again! I have discovered so many "new" games thanks to this thread!

It's nice when you finally figure these things out. There was an arcade have I played when I was five and it took me thirty years to figure out what it was, Rolling Thunder.
-
I had a similar experience with Quartet by Sega. I saw a cabinet down by the beach in Maryland when I was a kid then never again until I figured out what it was thanks to MAME.
-
I've got one of these mystery games I never figured out. When I was in 6th grade there was this arcade game at some after school party dance thing and I never saw it again. I cant remember if the cabinet matched the game.. but It was a street fighter clone, the thing I remember is playing as a black dude in a beret, possibly a yellowish army outfit and he had brass knuckles...
-
On another forum, ProxyCell gave up his search once he realized his memory was completely mixing up everything. The golem (#3 on his list) was from Mado King Granzort, apparently.

No brass knuckles and not a black dude, but Rolento from Street Fighter Zero/Alpha 2 meets some of your criteria:

hehe I remember him as the boss from Final Fight CD, thats close looking I guess.
This must have been 1992-93.
Actually if there was any Street Fighter 2 clone that had a character with brass knuckles Id be interested to see it.
I never saw this in any magazines so I imagined it was some Chinese black market arcade game.

ok no effin way I think I got it lol and a it was released on super cd lol

Yeah, Rolento was originally like the Level 4 (I think) boss from Final Fight. Since you mentioned the Beret and the yellow army outfit, I thought that's who you might be thinking of.

Ah, I forgot Bobby from Martial Champion used brass knuckles! I actually ran into this in the arcade a couple times and loved it. Racheal was my favorite character (I loved her theme music). Even though I also knew it was a shameless SF2 rip-off I couldn't help but be captivated by it at the time.
I once owned the PCE CD version, too. I remember there was an audio glitch or something in one of the tracks, I think the opening cinema track maybe.. I thought my CD was damaged but I might have asked others around the time and it's possible it was a problem in every copy. Can someone confirm?
