Title: FREE GAME: Fighting Street
Post by: Black Tiger on September 07, 2015, 11:56:36 AM
As with my other game giveaways, there aren't any rules* and I'll decide the "winner"/recipient however I choose. Once again, it will most likely just be a raffle including whichever names I choose to include. I won't be listing who is included or excluded, so everyone is free to opt in. I will choose the recipient whenever I feel like it, but it will likely be affected by the point at which entries begin to dwindle.

The game available is Fighting Street. It comes with game disc, manual and tray liner in a jewel case (aka CIC). The disc has some of the worst scratching I've ever seen, but has never given me any problems, which is why it took me so long to get around to replacing it with a more collectible copy.

*I only ask that you only opt in if you are serious about actually trying to play through the game and are not simply looking to fill a hole in a collection. Obviously, that means you do not currently own it and are not planning to just give it to someone else.

Sign me up, I've always wanted to play this having been a huge SFII fan back in the day like every other young impressionable kid. Thanks for offering this up BT.

I actually like playing this game. It's because of the impossible special move input sequences and the roughness of it that many people mock or dislike it, but I don't mind them. Not an issue for me.
That said sign me up, always wanted a legit copy of that game.

edit: I forgot to say that the music is good. Excellent red book renditions of the arcade original soundtrack.

I was actually just planning to burn a totally unauthorized copy so I could see how good or bad Fighting Street actually is. I find that I almost never agree with the harsh criticism certain games (and systems) receive. I joke that my autism doesn't quite match up with the mainstream.

If you attest the super scratched disc won't cause any problems, I'd like to try it out.

I would love to play this game. My Turbo Duo will be back from it's recap, region and component mod very soon and it would be awesome to give this game a try on the upgraded hardware.  it's awesome that you are willing to hook other forum members up like this.

I would love to play this game on the actual Hue card. Have played it on my ED recently and enjoyed it while working on some ISO burning CD sessions for the system.

Ah, damnit... I was really trying to sound like I knew what I was talking about.

Well I do not have a Actual CD game. Only ISOs so it would still be cool to have a actual CD game. and Beat'em ups are always fun.

Oooooh...Fighting Street would be nice. I actually used to play the Arcade version back in the day with the big Punch Pads instead of the regular Jamma Button set up. You'd hit the Pads at certain strength to make the punches or kicks harder or softer...was cool. I actually sprained my wrist playing that game. Takl about getting into a game. Sadly, once Street Fighter II hit, I stopped playing...LOL. "You'll have to do better than that if you're going to beat me, kiddo. Mwuahahahahahahahahaha!"

For years I was unaware that there was a version with the giant buttons. Wasn't as much fun without them.

Nah, the Giant Buttons were boss for the time. Just cool stuff indeed...LOL. I Loved it. I know, the game was hard to control, but it was still cool...very new at the time. Not like there had never been a fighting game before, but something was different about Street Fighter. It reminded me of the old Kung Fu movies as a game, the fireballs and such. Was just a neat idea...then the big buttons was just cool all around...if not somewhat silly at the same time. Like I said, I sprained my wrist! As a Teenager, you know what that did for my Bathroom time? Sheesh...LOL

Killer raffle, good luck to the entrants!

And yea, it's a good game.  It's worth the price ($20+) range for the soundtrack alone!!

If you're ever having issues and are using an Ave6 pad, just switch on the slow mo to make things easier on you.  ;)

I'd love a copy of Fighting Street.  I've spent a good deal of my life playing Street Fighter and various other fighting games in tournaments.  My forum name is even named after the particular way I played Street Fighter 3.

I'm even one of the five authors of this book:

I never got Fighting Street, though.  I saw it in a store when I was younger and didn't realize that it was Street Fighter.  Meanwhile I bought and enjoyed Street Fighter: 2010 on the NES because it was clearly the sequel to Street Fighter (or so I thought at the age of 10 or so).  Some years later I saw it in a used game shop for entirely too much money because "Turbografx stuff is rare."  I scoffed at the price and didn't buy it; that was the only other time I ever encountered it in a store.  I played the arcade Street Fighter enough to where I could beat it on one credit sometimes.  I won a SF2 tournament all the way back in 1992.  I've bought pretty much every version and every re-release of the game across every system imaginable.  And yet I've never picked up Fighting Street.  It's been on my to-buy list for years, and yet I've never bought it.

 When I write all this out the whole thing seems silly.  I figure I'll wait for this giveaway to end and then just buy a copy on ebay; I honestly can't think of any other reason why I don't just buy the game today.  Thanks for the free game offer Black Tiger; you helped me realize that there is a significant whole in my Turbo collection that I hadn't even realized was there.

I just want to emphasize what joshuaTurbo said: the soundtrack really is nice (I'm not even a big Street Fighter fan and I appreciate it).

I was tempted to report this to the moderator...not because it is offensive but because any action is good action and others need to know that.

Please enter me to win.  I have local access to a good CD resurfacer machine, I will be happy to add it to my collection and play it on my Duo that members here helped me fix.

I have a digital camera and photobucket; I would not mind doing a before and after of the resurface process.

Why did Ryu abandon his red hair w/ white streaks hair style?  Does he acknowledge his punk roots nowadays?

He was young in Street Fighter. In the Zero games you see his hair darkening and he looks more mature. In SFII he is even older looking and his hair has darkened further. They actually addressed this with the Alpha/Zero series.

Ken is the one who bleaches/dyes his hair, which is obvious by his thick black eyebrows.

I probably played SFZ2 on Saturn more than any of the others,  I didn't notice the transition happening.  I'll have to check that out.  Besides, doesn't hair usually get lighter as time marches on?  Seems like it was definitely dyed red and washed out later to reveal black hair.

Many redheads turn brown or browner as they grow up.

Most blonde hair turns radically darker. I have lots of both in my family. I'm one of the rare exceptions where my blonde hair didn't get darker or  turn light brown.

Look at the coverart of Zero 2 to see a good transitional piece of artwork. Even within the Zero series Ryu's hair starts out very red and ends up brown.

We are applying genetics and logic to a franchise where a guy is able to stretch his arms across a screen or a giant green dude with neon orange hair electrocutes people on touch.

Congrats to T2K and everybody bow to Le Tigre Noir for doing the giveaway.

The thing is, people did talk about how different Ryu looked in Street Fighter after SFII became a mega hit and they asked "if it's called SFII, does that mean there was a SF 1?" So when they decided to do a prequel instead of SFIII, they filled in lots of blanks and backstories.

Remember, this is an industry that felt the need to change the profession of Jumpman from carpenter to plumber after pipes became involved and actually developed a story for Pac Man.

Also of note was Birdie's appearance.

This...

That's one helluva sickness, Birdie!

Adon, Gen, and Sagat (of course) were also in later games in the series, too.  I always thought it was cool for them to bring back some of the original roster.  I guess for Birdie he decided to bulk up with some creatine after getting his ass handed to him by Ryu!

Edit: Eagle too, who else did I forget?

Yea he is the guy who had complete (or near complete) sets of all of the following systems: GB, GBC, SMS, NES, SNES, N64, GC, 32X and flipped it all for $130,000

In an effort to keep this thread on topic (despite it already being a finished raffle) I setup a thread here to discuss this great guy: https://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?board=27.0
