Title: prototype versions of the games you know and love
Post by: thisIsLoneWolf on September 28, 2015, 06:43:38 PM
Recently I came across a picture of a prototype version of bonk, picked up by a fellow forum member. The game is on one of those EPROM boards, but not like others I've seen on the web before.

It got me thinking about how even after all these years, it's so uncommon to see things like this for the turbografx. However, these types of items, seem to be all over the web (in relative abundance), for other similarly aged retro consoles.

Ideally, the shipped version of a game, is the one I want to play. Though, judging from old magazine screen shots, this may not always be true (*cough* Batman *cough*). Either way, I enjoy learning about how one of my favorite games, may have evolved. I realize this type of thing may not be for everyone. I for one, find it interesting, and enjoy hearing about these prototype versions of the games I've been playing for years now.

If anyone owns one, or has come across one, I'm sure some others here would also enjoy hearing about your discovery.

Hucard samples don't pop up often, but CD samples are on ebay on a semi-regular basis.  I suspect most of those are 99% complete games, though, with little differences from the released game.

My only prototype is the protohuey.

In recent years I'm only reminded of Bonkinator, Marble Madness and TV Sports Baseball

There are some clips of PC Genjin (Bonk) at a prototype stage here:

One more later in that video, I think.

Liked Space Fantasy Zone.  I've been a fan of Space Harrier and similar 3D shmups so when I heard about Space Fantasy Zone, I had to get a copy.  My TG-16 didn't like burned CD long ago so I was limited to running via emulator until I got my Duo-r
