Title: Whats a good price for a duo
Post by: Jason_dicarlo85 on October 20, 2015, 12:30:27 AM
Thanks for the add!! New member.. I am Gonna be in the market very soon (got almost 200 saved) for a pc engine duo... What's the best model or type to get? And what Is a good price to pay for one that has been recalled? Region mod would be nice but not a deal breaker because I also intend to keep my tg16.. Thanks guys

I think the most cost effective option is to get a region modded PC Engine Duo.  PC Engine Duos generally go for less than Turbo Duos and if it is region modded you will have access to all the Hu Card and CD games (US & Japan).  You also want to get one with the caps replaced if possible.  I would think it would cost you between $250 - $300 shipped for one.

The Duo R is the best entry point IMO. They are rock solid and play almost everything out of the box. Tbone is right about the regular Duo being cheaper though, but either make sure it has had all the capacitors replaced or plan on getting that done ASAP as they are prone to system killing leakage.

But the black Duo is so sexy! R(X) is an ugly fat younger sister...

If you go down the JP only route (cheaper games), region mod is not super important. Just get them caps replaced.

Should the forum make a rule that new members whose first posts are about prices or other collectard stuff get insta-banned?

I don't think asking what a fair price on a DUO is is that bad.  Now that guy trying to sell repo turbo boxes geez...

Who would buy those?

I bought a couple from Sparky, and I don't feel a bit bad about it.  I'm sure I could've spent that $20 on saving whales or hugging trees, but whatevs.

Can someone tell me what the going rate for  a US TurboDuo controller goes for?

I am one shy of 5 player bomber man bliss and the recent sold on ebay are $70+ each!

I've got a few PCE pads so it's not essential that I get one (of course it isn't) but I don't remember the controllers being that difficult to find, or so dear.

It's getting pretty redic on some of the prices. I would rather pay for some PC Engine controllers and pay the $15 EMS shipping fee on top and still be under $35 for a controller. Well.. maybe....

Broken PCE Duo's and Duo-R's selling for $200-275 is also pretty high. That doesn't include the $65 EMS shipping either. Think there were a few under that but maybe only one or two. Oh and I like the ones that say, tested and works but havn't had the caps replaced. Yet they try to sell for more than $300 when you are going to need to invest $20 - $50 in caps depending on the type you use. I prefer ceramics and a few Electrolytic radials so usually runs me about $45 + $5 for caps.

So no mods, just cap replacement and if the console works with no other issues there is $315 into a console with no compensation for time spent repairing or profit. Entry level will soon be $500'ish just for hardware that works and is really repaired and not just saying ... it tested and works...

Like that new in the box US Duo $12k or whatever... Who cares, the dang thing won't work right. lol It needs caps if it hasn't been eaten alive already by them.

Uhg, sorry, kinda turned into a rant....      my bad....

Seriously. It's been a couple of years since I was cruising ebay for Turbo stuff, but I seem to remember there being a glut of NOS US TurboDuo controllers and DuoTaps  in box for around the 20-30 dollar mark.

Less than $30 on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turbo-Duo-Controller-/221867102216?hash=item33a84f5008:g:gMIAAOSwjVVV4TL-

They're just hard to find the listings of because of the Turbo/Duo naming scheme and the ignorance of the average reseller.

Sometimes a 3 button controller is cheaper. They are just slightly wider than a standard 2 button controller and the 3rd button can be disabled or mapped to select or run button.
