Hi,
I stopped playing PCE/TG-16 10 years ago and had the systems in storage. I want to start playing again but i read all this stuff about capacitors leaking and other problems and Im worried about powering the systems on.
Is there any danger to systems to turning the systems on to see if they work? Is there any specific hardware configuration that is less likely to be damaged if I play on it? If maybe someone could tell me the best configuration to play on with the least risk that would be great. Ideally id like some combination of systems where I could play both US and PCE hucards but just one system to play either type would be ok for now as I just want to play some games.
Also does anyone here do the recommended mods for a fee? Or maybe trade games/systems for doing the mods?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Which systems specifically do you own?

pce+cdrom with the white rectangular case duor duorx supergrafx (maybe have the cd cable not sure) tg-16+cd us duo laseractive with pacs (but dont really want to play on this).
Also Turboexpresses and PCE-GTs but I tried playing on two of the PCE-GTs and one powered with a white hazy light but wouldnt play a game. The other powered and played but no sound. After that I decided I should investigate before I did any damage.

Some turbo systems don't have a cardboard box slot so be careful.

Wow that's quite a collection. I guess the question is what NEC system don't you have?

Nothing is going to blow up or fry itself because of bad caps. They just won't work. The epresses, gt, us duo, and LA pacs definitely need to be recapped. If you don't recap them, the electrolyte could eat into the board to the point they might not be fixable

Ok cool thats a relief. Is there anyone that does these recaps for a fee? Some (actually most) of that stuff looks pretty difficult. I mean I've soldered before but i never use a heatsink or anything.

I can also do recaps.
Here's a photo of my work on a pc engine gt

I take time to clean the pcb properly from the electrolytic fluid, if it has leaked.
Let me know if you need help with anything.
