Title: Super CDROM2 Sound problem

Just recapped a Super CDROM2 which had no sound at all but now has a very tinny low output.
Any ideas what the problem might be.

I have cleaned the area using isopropyl alcohol.
Is this down to corrosion?
bottom top track problems?

I will remove the caps and re clean.

Re cleaned and reworked around the supply area and the sound now works.

But the cd now does not read CDR's :( stuck in "wait a moment"

Steve somebody has posted that you have a Video on tweaking these.

Try the V102 pot. Usually that helps to get the SUper CDrom2 lens reading better.

I think I need a better way to test this.
just tweaking pots isn't the answer.

As you said cleaning the pcb sorted all the problems.

The great thread below has all the info I need in setting it up.

But by just cleaning it and using it's original settings has brought it back to life.

I had a similar problem with my Super CD-ROM². Others on here recommended putting the board in a dishwasher, but I don't have one so I had to come up with another method.
I removed the capacitors around the power and the audio areas and cleaned with alcohol, I then took a small piece of wire (it could have been the leg from a capacitor) and poked it through all the vias in these areas and removed any residue that came out.
The audio now seems to be working okay with only a very slight distortion when I first switch it on.

Change all the caps.
Clean the whole board with isopropyl alcohol and that includes the piggyback audio board.

Thats what worked in the end.

the way i do it is remove the caps, then run both boards in the dishwasher
then install new caps

What about the salt in dishwashers?

Potentiometers cant be dishwasher safe.

I think I'm sticking with the alcohol and toothbrush.

Small amount of detergent, gentle cycle, no heat dry is what I do.

Then I put it in the oven for 12 hours at minimum temp 200 degrees or whatever.

As a note, at my work where we manufacture super high end circuit boards we use an industrial dishwasher like apparatus to wash boards and then a conveyorized drying apparatus.  Later we use an industrial oven at 235 degrees for two hours to ensure that boards are dry and moisture free.

I think many people would have salt in their dishwashers and that would take some time to be washed out.
Plus some dishwasher tablets also have salt inside.

Plus potentiometers are not dishwasher proof.

I think it's a nice idea but could cause more problems in the future.
