Title: Are there TG 16 Controller Overlays?
Post by: bbq90 on December 18, 2015, 09:24:38 AM
Good Afternoon everyone,

This is my first post, since I am new to this forum. Very informative sight, especially for a novice TG-16/PC Engine collector such as myself. But that's beside the point. My question is, as the subject title suggests, are there any TG 16 controller overlays in the vein of the ones for the NES controllers? They don't have to be official ones, because I don't think official ones even exist. But it would be cool to have some custom ones, since the TG 16 controllers have a plastic film over them that seems to degrade with age.

Thanks for the help to anyone willing to reply.

That's like putting a bumper sticker on a Ferrari.

Welcome aboard!

The only one I recall seeing is hoob's custom beeyotch overlay on a Hudson Joycard Sansui NES pad converted to OBEY -

On second thought, I'm going to have to agree with toymachine78; my controller isn't in that bad of shape. But it didn't hurt to ask. Also, thanks for the reference Necromancer.

I don't have any information for you concerning controller overlays, but I can say, "Welcome to Pcenginefx!"

Peel the shipping film off the controller.

I was going to say. That stuff was meant to come off to keep the paint underneath from getting scratched up and such. As long as you keep the controllers in good shape though and take care of them, this shouldn't be a problem. Especially since, over time, it does degrade and leaves a nasty film on the controllers that will damage the paint/silk screening or whatever it was they used on these controllers. I had an Ave 6 Pad that had weird warps in the plastic that wouldn't come off due to the degradation of the film over time, especially around the D-Pad.

It looks like shit day one, looks worse 25 years later, never meant to be kept for any period of time at all. Peel that shit off now or I'll peel it off for you.

THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Noobs love to BUY SHIT more than anything else. This is an attempt to buy a thing to fix a problem that doesn't exist, or rather, it won't exist once that film gets peeled off. For 25 YEARS that controller has had its dumb plastic protector fraying and peeling but never removed to reveal the perfectly shiny and vastly more durable surface underneath. Will it ever see the light of day?

To Be Continued...?

I chuckled as I read this and then looked at the front of my PC - a 2007 HP M8120N and I see that I still have not peeled off the shipping film from the front of it...

(yes, I have been using this PC for 8 years...  8))

Hahahhahahajja.

I just peeled off the film from a Roku that I have been using for years....probably 8-9 years...

In my defense, I didn't even realize the plastic film was on the front face until my son started peeling it off.

Here in Japan just about everything comes with those seals on them.  And yes they are meant to be taken off as soon as the item is purchased, if you wait too long they just get nasty.

I'm doing facade construction and installation, where we get metal sheets with protective film from the factory, as well as put our own cling films on the glass once installed.

If the protective film stays too long, it will disintegrate, leaving a nasty glue on the surface. UV rays from bright sunlight speeds up the process, some products won't last longer than a couple of weeks.
