does anybody know the exactly piece of games which were released on the japanese market cuts into the different media (Hucard, S-Hucard, CD, SCD, ACD), excluisvely demos (hibaihin, taikenban) and unofficial softs etc.

even i try to count the entire entries on pcecp it is hard to get an exactly result.

not an easy task though
-
As I understand it, you are looking for the raw tallies for each category? Share the numbers you came up with, even if you think they might be wrong, so we have something to reference. :)

-
				Agreed.

-
OK will do it to morrow. unfortunately i can't log into the forum via my pc at home. do someone know why? is there a IP restriction per log in? :?

-
Perhaps your computer at home has the CAPS LOCK perpetually on or something.  I hate it when I check the box that says "Keep me signed in" yet I have to sign in almost every single time, even on the same computer and browser (Firefox).  Something is definitely broken.

-
nope, sorry must be to an other reason

-
There were more than six millions PC Engine (all models) sold in Japan. Cross that with the average number of copies for an average game, let's say 50000... You do the math :)

-
sorry, only want to know the amount of games (soft). as i'm informed, it's somewhere around 1000different titles.

-
I don't have exact numbers, but there were roughly 650-700 officially released titles.  This doesn't include demos, unofficial titles, samples, prototypes, etc.

Anyway, I'd say there's probably 800 or so unique titles if you count those demos and stuff.

If you want a separate breakdown on the number of HuCards, CDs, SCDs, etc, I could go through some of the magazines I have for an accurate count.  Going from memory I think it's something like:
 Hucard: 44%
 CD: 15%
 SCD: 38%
 ACD: 3%

Of course those aren't exact, but I think it's pretty close.  IIRC, there was a list of games on one of the Japanese PCE sites that had the numbers, but I can't find it right now.
-
Here are the breakdown numbers from my personal collection.

 HuCard  ( PCE / SG )     CD  (  CD / SCD / ACD )    Sum
 American         90  (  90 /  - )     51  (  24 /  27 /   - )    141
 Japanese        302  ( 295 /  7 )    437  ( 120 / 303 /  14 )    739

 TOTALS:         392  ( 385 /  7 )    488  ( 144 / 330 /  14 )    880

I do not have a break down of demos, samples and mooks (etc) from within those numbers (and those numbers also do not include bootlegs, beta versions, etc).

There aren't that many demos and bootlegs(also depends on anyone's definition of a bootleg), so that's a very accurate number.

Anyone have any rough numbers of how many games wre released for any other consoles?
-
Thanks a lot for the lists, Akamichi and BT. I don't know if they are exactly correct or not, but that definitely gives a good idea of how many games for each format. I was always curious by this as well. I also always imagined that the SCD format had the most titles.

-
By 1997, the 16-bit Japanese market approximately looked like this:

550 games on the Mega Drive (cart, MCD, 32X)
660 games on the PC Engine (Hu, CD, SCD, ACD)
1400 games on the Super Famicom

Those are round numbers which don't include taikenbans or mooks.

There might be more than you think...

There are the Special HuCards (Gunhed Caravan, Soldier Blade Caravan, BMan 93,  Final Soldier Caravan, Power League Gold, Bonk 3, Youkai Dochuki Gold, Darius Alpha)

and several "commercial demos" (Faceball, FEoE-SCD, Hudson RPG, Psychic Detective 3, Laplace No Ma, Bman 94)

and some store demos (DUO DEMO 1, DUO DEMO 2, PCE 4 game instore demo, Emerald Dragon, Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor-Griffon, Mad Stalker, Mamano Hunter Youko Tooki Yobigoe, Startling Odyssey, World Heroes 2)

And Mook Versions (Emerald Dragon, Anearth Fantasy Story, Kabuki Den, Lodoss Tousenki SCD, Xanadu).

The PCEngine Hyper Catalogs, and PCEngine Fan Specials, and DEVELO starter kits.

And the "unofficial commercial games" (the 3 "Excite Software" discs, the MindRec titles, the Games Express titles, etc).

Those are the ones that I know of -- most are included in those numbers, but not all.

Youkai Dochuki Gold!?!? I never even heard of that, do you have any pics of that? Too awesome!

 :D

just yesterday i had a day off, so i had the chance to watch some tv. by zapping through the channels i found an entertainment guy, he played youkaidouchuuki on the pce in his kind of retro-game show. he needed about one day to beat it :P ! and no it was not a realtime show
-
				Tatsjujin, two things:

1.) Thanks a lot for that link! I really want that gold version of Yokai now!

2.) That show you described sounds radical!
-
1.) that would be a little problem, i guess! :P

2.) will check what kind of tv programm it was. it's not the first time i saw that one!

the funny thing was, the entertainer is not a real game geek, just kind of tv-puplicityidol. so that he could master the game, some time two game-otakus supported him with some real insider hints. they also drawed a complete and detailed map of the whole game to explain the nasty parts of it :LöL:
-
				Haha, that's hilarious.

 Hey bt,
I don't know what you've been smokin' but those numbers are a little skewed.  I'm standing here looking at my collection right now and this is what I've added up:
 HuCard      CD      Sum
 American         33       33        66
 Japanese         19       33        52

 TOTALS:          52       66      118

So there you have it--118 games total.
And by the way, there were only nine ACD games and four SGX releases.
That "1941" game everyone talks about was never actually released...
 *sigh*

Your house must be where Turbo gamers go when they die.
-
completely wrong. there are 5 SGFX games in totla and 2 bastards (darius alpha and darius plus).

could it be, that you mix up 1941 with strider hiryû?

and for the ACD i refer to the other thread where all titles are listed:

Yeah…I know.  I was trying to be funny.  As if I too, had a complete collection and the scope of the PCE universe could be determined from counting my collection.

-
bt, thanks for raw numbers and then listing all of the demos, mooks, etc. that you've encountered.

What are the 3 "Excite Software" titles you referred to? If I had to guess, I'd say they were along the lines of Games Express' offerings...

Similar, only less revealing.  There were basically slide shows of bikini clad women.

 The titles are:

 Bikini Girls
 Hawiian Island Girls
 Local Girls Of Hawaii (The)

Highly unforgettable titles, all the way around.

Well, those numbers do reflect all titles that I own, and not just the commercial releases.

And just for the record, most of the dead gamers here arrived still breathing.

"Where did I leave my axe?"
-
				Haha, those Hawaii girl CDs.

Since I'd never seen any images online, not even any magazine scans of it, I thought that the Gold Youkai Dochuki could've been a myth.

It's really cool to finally get to see it.

At the very least I count the MindRec and the Games Express titles as 'real' games.

Pretty much anything thats a stand alone game and not just a demo or promo of a full game.

Here are the breakdown numbers from my personal collection.

 Japanese        302  ( 295 /  7 )    437  ( 120 / 303 /  14 )    739

small question to you, bt. i counted all jap. entries on the pcecp and received 717pcs. as a result. is this correct? if yes, what are the 22 missing entries to the 739pcs. out of your collection?
-
