Title: Joining the Supergrafx family
Post by: Duo_R on March 08, 2016, 02:41:12 PM
I got a Supergrafx on the way.

It doesnt have power or AV cable, anyone got the power specs handy. Is it standard AV port?

It has the same power specs as a PC Engine/Core Grafx (800mA centre negative) but the tip connector is 6.3 x 3.0 like a Duo or SCD-ROM² (which are centre positive). #-o

Nice, welcome to the club. :)

Yes, the a/v port is the standard 5 pin din.

You guys are killing me I have been pondering getting a supergrafx as well.

At first I was not really interested since it has so few games but the fact that I can use the everdrive to play them is a big plus.  Also it's awesome that it is backwards compatible.

I would probably not mess with adding the super cd to it that just looks wrong.  Like 2 elephants mating haa haa.

The first time I showed my SGX + Super CD 2 attachment on twitch the people that were watching made comments like...

"You could club someone to death with that thing."

"WTF, it's nearly half the size of you!"

"Does that thing even fit on a normal shelf?"

I do think it looks a bit fugly and I really like the black Duo's much much more. But this system mixed with the Arcade Duo card gives me access to every single game in the PCE/TG16 library.

Oh and I use a single power supply adapter.
I grabbed one of these.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Small-Jumper-power-cable-for-Pc-Engine-Super-CD-Rom2-to-Super-Grafx-/111924999405?hash=item1a0f3ff4ed

Then I found this power supply and decided to give it a try and it works great. Although I cannot find it anywhere now.
Hmm, I can't seem to link it..... but the item description is Enercell 12VDC 1.5A AC-to-DC Power Adapter #2730461 Regulated & Filtered from the seller overstockoutletmemphis.

I was really happy to only have to use one power brick and I havn't had any problems with my system.

Nice find.  I found a SuperGrafx in person for the first time last week.  Unfortunately the store that had it knew what they had.  They wanted $550 for it along with a Super CD ROM and they refused to separate.  On the plus side, it was very clean.  Looked brand new.  I ended up making a fair offer on it, but they would not budge.

Bummer.

That's happened to me more than a few times.
Your situation is probably different. Maybe just a backlog at customs.
In this side of the world it's a common occurrence that the custom officials get confused with the customs duty fee assessment. Usually me sending them a copy of the PayPal/whatever invoice is enough to release the item/s.

I am curious about what one of these goes for these days.
$150 ish?

There must be something in the air, because I finally broke down and got a Supergrafx set.

I hadn't bought many games in a while, because prices are through the roof and I have more than enough to play...  but it is tax return tradition to splurge on something nice!

Games just came in today so I didn't get a chance to play yet, the only straggler is Battle Ace which I got from a different seller.

Ok so it arrived. It's a repair unit. Any idea what is missing here?

Anyone got good motherboard pics? I just saw a pic on the internet that also doesn't have anything there. So perhaps nothing is missing.

Here are some pics of mine and nothing is there.

I would check for cracks in the board.

Thanks yeah I haven't powered it yet and just inspecting the board. It's weird because it looks like a 7805 goes there and maybe they had some design changes last minute.

Supergrafx all fixed up! Here is the adapter I made to work with a PC Engine AC adapter.

Congrats on the fix.  My game room is a mess because I have new shelves coming.  As a motivator, I am not going to hook up the Supergrafx until I put the shelves together and clean up the mess.

...my girlfriend said "I start throwing stuff out in one month if you don't get that room in order."  She is crazy enough to do it too, home co-ownership is the best.
