Has anyone used either of these? The shuttle controllers look like they might be more comfortable than a regular controller since they have those bat-wing looking things on the side. Regular Duo controllers make my wrists hurt after a couple hours. The 6 button one also looks like it might be easier on the wrists since it's bigger and appears to have more space around the D-pad. Any input would be appreciated it, I'm in desperate need of a better controller since my wrists can't take another 2 hour session.

I thought you were a viking man, GUTS. Get over the pain.

There's a big difference between a battle axe and a badly designed controller fit only for an 8 year old's/Japanese person's hand. Turbo controllers are junk, I hate them. I need something meaty like a Genesis 6 button controller or a Saturn controller for my old school games.
-
The 6 button controller does fit my gigantic American hands a bit better than the normal 2 button one. It's not perfect, but it's decent. I don't think there is a perfect controller available in any form for the system, unfortunately.
-
Post pics of the Shuttle controller as I believe I have never seen one before. Please, if you will.

I love Turbo controllers personally, some of my favorites out of any system. But how is a 6 button Genesis controller possibly "meaty"? It's just as small as a Turbo controller! However if I were to recommend a PCE controller to you, I'd get the Duo RX kind, the grey six button controller. It's shaped nicely and gives the hand a better grip and is bigger than the standard controllers.
-
The Genesis 6 button controller has the d-pad and buttons placed logically where you can get some of your hand on the controller and have your thumbs almost fully extended instead of being right on the very bottom corners like a turbo controller. I have to hold my thumbs at a wierd angle on a turbo controller and it hurts the ol' wrist. I'll try one of those RX controllers though, they look like there's nearly enough space, sucks they're like $30 though.
-
PCE pads can be pricey, unfortunately. I could use another one too since my Avenue Pad 6 is annoying.
-
that pce shuttle is an instrument of the devil, it has no cd port and looks like... well... just look at it :P
Who would buy it instead of a coregrafx? At least I wont do it :P
-
GUTS, I don't think the Shuttle's controller will make a significant difference as far as your comfort is concerned. Of course, I hope I am wrong, but, for me, the Shuttle pad feels like the standard PCE pad.
HOWEVER, I think we have different preferences for pad design (and possibly different methods for holding the damn things). As we have discussed in the past, I much prefer PCE/NES pads over Genny's.
Perhaps modifying a Genny controller for use on the PCE is possible? (I am clueless when it comes to these things.)

Actually I was talking to Runin and he thinks it's just because the Duo R pads are total shit. I have to press so hard to get it to register that I think that's what's hurting my wrists, he said he has a couple japanese pads and they're all like that while his US pad is awesome.
The wierd thing is that I dont remember having this problem a few years ago when I had a US duo, so I think he's totally right. I'm just gonna order a Duo pad from TZD and put the guts inside my white Duo R pad and see if that works better, and maybe order an extension cord too since my boner is longer than the Duo R's controller cord.

Ahhh, that might be the case. I wish I had a Duo-R to compare them myself.
Definitely tell us how the swapping works! :)

I have two USA Turbo Duo controllers, one original PCE controller (no Turbos), Avenue Pad 6, and the RX six button pad. I don't have any experience with a standard Duo R pad or Core Grafx pads, etc... but I like the original PCE controller a lot and it feels just as good to me as the Turbo Duo controllers. I generally use the Turbo Duo controllers though because they have the turbos in them.

I’ve never tried a Shuttle pad but it looks frickin’ sweet.
I've had a couple Avenue 6 pads for a long time and don't like them very much. I like playing SF2 with all 6 buttons on turbo and it sucks only having turbo switches for I and II. It also feels clunky and the switches it does have don't move very smoothly.
With the RX pads being so expensive I picked up two of those Hori Fighting pads on these forums and I'm very happy with them. They're kind of like the poor man's RX pad. The only disadvantage they have compared to the RX is that buttons I and VI share a turbo switch. This isn't a problem because I can't think of any 6-button games where these particular buttons would need different turbo settings.
On the subject of extension cords, have you guys found problems plugging a Duo Tap into an extension cord before running it to the deck? I've tried this with multi-player games and the extension cord mixes the signals from the two or more controllers. This creates problems like one controller moving both of the characters and I have to "fight" for control with the other gamer. Unless there's a way to fix this I guess I need one extension cord for each and every player so I can plug all of the extended controllers into the Tap.
Time to buy some more.

Ahhh, another example of the good ol' TG16 kickin PCE ass. 8)
Seriously though, for all of the name-knocking and bad-cover-art rants the Turbo gets it is cool that it kind of "lived up to it's name"
...or at least the word "Turbo."
I remember when the TG was released Turbo buttons/switches were still a novelty or a feature that only high-end controllers like the NES Advantage and Max pads offered.
When I was ten years old a friend and I were looking at an issue of EGM and I was pointing to the TurboGrafx and excitedly telling him how "all of the controllers have turbo buttons!"
BTW, the NES Max controller is my all-time favorite pad. I beat Life Force, Metal Gear, TMNT 1, Ultima Avatar and most of my other NES games with that thing.
-
Rock on, Vestcoat. I not only choose the Turbo Duo controller over the PCE most of the time for the turbo switches, but for the looks :) . I still think the original PCE controllers looks great and I love to use it when playing on my PCE, but the Turbo Duo one just looks frickin' sweet. I think it even looks cooler than the PCE Duo controllers even though they are pretty similar. TG16 over PCE 4life 8) .

I love my Duo-RX controllers, it has a more ergonomic shape and feels really nice. The D-pad is larger and is sloped inward, the buttons have a much smoother feel to them. I'd say $30 is a very good deal for one of them, considering I paid $45 for my 2nd one (I liked it that much :P). Here's some pics of one of mine:

*sigh*... someone bought this one for almost $60.

That's not the controller I was thinking of, I'm getting the black/blue 6 button controller and the RX pad mixed up. That RX pad looks AWESOME, it looks just like a PCFX controller! I wonder if there's a way to convert a PCFX controller to Duo since they're cheaper? Damn now I want an RX controller bad, I absolutely love the PCFX controller.
-
The only differences between the RX and PC-FX controllers are slight color differences, no PC-FX logo on the RX one, and the RX one has more individual rapid fire switches.
-
Hope you find one GUTS, there's at least 3 or so other ppl on these forums looking for one -- I just happened to find the one I did before them. ;)
-
Man it seems like they would have mass produced those things, it's weird that the best controller is also the hardest to find.
-
I wonder if they only were only bundled with the duo-rx system and not sold separately, that could explain why there seem to be so few, most duo-rx's I see on ebay no longer have them.
-
They were sold seperately also, called "Arcade Pad 6" I believe (like this auction says (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290005540465&category=49230) ) . I've seen them on ebay with their original box before a couple times.

Where are the 3rd party controllers? Seriously. I've only ever seen 3 controllers for the PCE (and none for the turbo) that weren't made by NEC itself. Why? :?
-
Both of my CoregrafxII controllers have pretty stiff dpads.. My Hori fighting commander and my Avenue 3 pad both have "normal" feeling dpads. I love the Hori pad, but it SUCKS having to reach all the way over the slomo switch to hit RUN. For that reason, the Avenue Pad 3 has become my favorite controller. Im still trying to get my hands on an RX pad, but i can think of a few games where i'd pick the Avepad 3 over it. Having the RUN button as button 3 is just so badass :D

I've seen some third party controllers for the Turbo. At least from two different companies, although I can't recall their names now (Beeshu? I think that was one).

I picked up a 3rd party controller called a "Battle Pad" a while ago, it is probably the most comfortable 2 button pad I've ever used (though it sure is ugly).
