Title: PC-Engine IFU-30: Save games?
Post by: Trenton_net on April 01, 2016, 06:28:29 PM
Hey everyone,

For the IFU-30, how does it retain save games? Does it use a battery or some kind of super capacitor? If the latter, how long will it last before saves games get lost? Is there any modern way to back this information up? I assume as long as the interface unit has power, you won't really need to worry about the loss of save games?

Not sure on the answers to your questions, but get yourself a Tennokoe card and archive any saves you want to retain...

The CD-ROM units use a supercapacitor to keep saves, so the unit needs to be turned on every few weeks, or months at most.

There are no modern solutions for backing up saves, but I've made a semi-oldskool one for doing many things, including backing up / restoring BRAM: http://www.chrismcovell.com/PCEmon/index.html
