Title: Photos from MWC this weekend
Post by: Flare65 on April 10, 2016, 04:34:08 AM
Was at the Midwest Gaming Classic yesterday. Met a few of the forum members while I was there....Braap, Chop, Dragon Master Dan, and the guy who came up from North Carolina....sorry I didn't catch your name, but it was great chatting with you!
It was a little early on Saturday when these were taken, but the room filled up in the afternoon.
The photo above is some kind of custom board that allows two Neo Geo Controllers to be used on a Duo/PC Engine. I was told it was assembled the night before the convention.
Braap showed me this repro of Magical Chase while I was there. A lot of love when into designing and creating it - a very high quality repro that anyone would love to have in their collection!
And below is the most expensive game that I saw in the vendor area. (http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk317/jolsonp/SAM_0771_zpszll1aula.jpg) (http://s283.photobucket.com/user/jolsonp/media/SAM_0771_zpszll1aula.jpg.html)
Id say there was a stronger presence of PCE/Turbo games in the vendor area this year as opposed to last year. Some of the games seemed to be priced a bit much... Saw complete in case copies of Splatterhouse and Devils Crush going for $100.00 each. A sealed Neutopia 2 going for $270.00. I was hoping to find a used copy w/instructions while I was there. :( I spent my money on other gaming stuff which I'll put in the recent pickups thread later on today. Overall, I had a great time!

How much was the magical chase repro? And who sells it?

That repro looks better than the original. I would say a million dollar(https://s3.amazonaws.com/tapatalk-emoji/emoji6.png)

I should have taken more photos of when the place was busy and the scores of the Tatsujen (sp?) tournament. They were giving away a sealed PC Engine Air Zonk to the winner. Dunno who won it.
Not sure what the repro of the Magical Chase would sell for or even if they will be offered for sale. I'll let Braap comment on that. The high quality of the case, insert, instructions, and HuCard blew me away. The case looked like it was custom made for the HuCard. The HuCard itself felt much heavier than an normal plastic HuCard. I think it was made out of metal.

Nice pictures of the show Flare.
Also, last I knew Nullity was WAAAAAAAAY ahead in the Tatsujin contest.

That neo-geo to pc-engine adapter was my handy work. Programming for the cpld was completed the night before. I pulled an all-nighter and spent the rest of the time until 5 minutes before my flight to Milwaukee wiring and debugging the adapter. Right now, the switches toggle between 2-button and 6-button modes and are independent for each player. I am currently fielding suggestions as to how it should operate if I put it onto production. I was thinking of changing it to run in 3-button/6-button mode for switch 1 (both players) and switch 2 will toggle between run and select for button III in 3-button mode.

I didn't know that Super Nintendo CD was there, would've liked to check it out. I was with 2 friends who didn't give a shit about video games and I already brought them to Galloping Ghost on the way up, so I got dragged out of MGC too quickly.

I vote 6 button mode for arcade sticks using Neo Geo standards with the extra buttons added. Same pinout that Jammanationx uses. That would be handy. And that would be compatible with Neo still.

MGC this year was great. Some of us remember everything that happened. Some of us only remember some of it. I didn't snap any pics but will have coverage of it on the youtube channel at some point. Found myself hanging out in the Turbo Fest room quite a bit.
I really enjoyed putting faces with usernames and especially enjoyed playing demos of PC Henshin and Catastrophy. Can't wait to get my hands on them when they are finished.

I agree, 6 button would be great just to have. Either way, I'm so glad this is a thing and I really look forward to seeing more progress on it. I got a chance to try it out and it worked great for the short amount of time that it was worked on!

The 6-button feature will be a feature of the adapter no matter which direction it takes. I put in the 6-button feature because I'm a fan of SF2CE and I think it's a technical marvel that it even runs that well. The main decision is to choose between having a 2-button or 3-button mode as the alternate. The I/O on the cpld is maxed out so I can't do a universal 2/3/6-button adapter.

Is there a significant difference in the work required? Considering how 3-button mode works, it's not like there's the potential for it to be incompatible with some games, right? I think the only reason not to have it is if you feel like you'd be making too much work for yourself.

It wouldn't be much more work to get the 3-button functions to work. The only real issue with the 3-button mode is that buttons II and I would map to buttons B and C and for traditional 2-button games, the close proximity to button A could lead to accidental pauses. I'd have to review the code when I get home and see if I can another I/O pin to make a 3 way switch happen.

I didn't get to stick around too long, but it was a great show!
Thanks again to those of you who helped try to fix my new TG-16 CD setup (and sorry, I never did catch your names!) As we thought, a new middle gear was all it needed. It's working great now!

We stopped in his store on the way up. He had insane prices. Everyone here knows my view on prices, so if I call them crazy, you know they are bad. Things like Kid Drac GB loose for $100, or DKC for $30. As my friend put it, if you have a stack of 10 copies of a popular game on the shelf, like DKC, you know you are too high priced. His booth had a loose Bonk NES for $550. A Caltron 6-in-1 for $300+. I don't know if or how he sold anything, because all of his prices were 30% higher than the rest of tent.

Not gonna ask what witchcraft you use to make these but i'm very interested in buying.I've been wanting a pce tatsujin for awhile now, since original copies are so pricey as of late. Also looking at the pictures and video's i've watched of the recent mgc it sure does look like fun.

That's unfortunate. With what they charge for admission, you'd think they could pay for a real convention hall.
To be honest, the cost of that enormous tent, cost to heat it and whatever the hotel is charging for electricity out there was not cheap. MGC might be too big for it's own britches. The only way to make it "comfortable" would be moving the thing to a large arena or sports stadium of some sort.

Maybe they should move it out a few weeks, would probably avoid a lot of the weather issues.
Did you see the diaper dicks (Bad Grafx Gamers) from Cincy? I heard they had the best booth in the vendor tent!

So, one of the vendors at my table fought them hard with the band inside the tent after last years mess. Unfortunately, not enough vendors threw a stink about the band. They did come up with a compromise, in which you could pay more to be further from the band. We paid top dollar to be as far from the band as possible.
Also, apparently, they are saving a ton of money by shoving the vendors in a tent. Last year was wet too. Part of the reason the show is when it is, and is where it is, is because the current cost of the venue is extremely cheap. Given the ridiculously low price of the venue, I think the vendors are stuck with the shit show that is MGC for the long term.

I also heard that MGC locked themselves into that venue with a negotiated rate or something and to compromise the hotel also provides the tent and such. Seems like it will be the same kind of thing for the next several years, if I was a vendor I'd be a bit pissed about it too but it's either that or don't go I guess.
Also, bands can be cool but personally I can't stand live bands unless it's in a venue designed for it. Let me do what I meant to do in peace without music I didn't choose blaring.

Yes, I bought a couple items from them. Unfortunately I also attempted to do something gross for a discount and someone else did something even worse. It's on camera so I'm sure it'll be on their episode for MGC. I talked with them a bit the night before as well.

Totally agree with this. I absolutely hate live music as I have Tinnitus in both ears...more so in my right ear. Even movie theaters seem to be much louder to me than they were 10 years ago. My biggest pet peeve is when I'm with a group of people who go out for dinner or a drink and some shitty live band starts setting up a speaker 10 ft away from me.
....sorry for the rant, but If I was a seller at that end of the vendor hall I'd be pissed. Even the air hockey tables were annoying.

I am going to say I liked the music, I found myself tapping my foot and enjoying the gaming atmosphere more while the bad played and was a bit bummed while they weren't.
I heard a few sellers saying it was a bad year, but I would guess weather, and not the music, was the cause.

Also it would be nice to meet more of you guys in person. Again that was really cool setup you have there. I wonder what that cologne smells like. I hope it causes others to obey.
