Title: Should I get an Arcade Pro Card?
Post by: Report2Marty on April 21, 2016, 07:32:26 AM
Greetings Everyone!

Just wondering if some of you could chime in on the benefits/awesome games that would come with purchasing an Arcade Pro Card for my cd rom2.  Does having a Neo Geo CDZ kinda make the purchase pointless?

Again and as always, thank you for your time and attention!

Best!

Get one so you can play Sapphire, Kabuki Itouryodan & Madou Monogatari.

Mad Stalker is ok and there's also Strider which sadly is a bad port.

Thanks!!!  These look great!

Yeah, heard from some others that the Strider port was pretty lack luster.

There's only a dozen games that were made specifically for the Arcade Card.  Research 'em on the Brothers Duomazov, the PC Engine Bible, Videogame Den, youtube, etc. and decide for yourself if you want to play them; we don't know what type of games you like, your tolerance for moon runes, or your interest in comparing different ports.

Enjoy the CD-ROM and Super CD-ROM (and do not sleep on HuCards) library first. Do not let the chase for the ACD get in the way of enjoying the other 98% of what is there. Unfortunately for you, the Arcade Card Pro goes for a higher price than the Arcade Card Duo.

I do not play my ACD games much, I only have three. There is so much other games out there that run on CD/SCD that are better. Do you have a Super system Card yet?

The Neo ports are very cool if you care about experiencing games on different consoles and how they turn out. The fighters at least are very cool tech demos and the Fatal Furys push more animation than the Neo Geo versions.

Arcade Cards are cheap compared to buying the games for Neo Geo CD and the ACD games are very cheap as well. If you shop right, you could get an Arcade Card, Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury 2, Fatal Fury Special and World Heroes 2 for PC Engine all for roughly the same price as Art of Fighting for Neo Geo CD.

I concur with Black_Tiger's position: get it if you enjoy comparing different ports of games.

I really enjoyed Mad Stalker since I tend to like beat em ups.  I would not be in a rush to get one since there are so many games you can play with the super system card.

Black Tiger is right shop around and you can get them for a decent price.  My arcade card pro came loose in a lot of other system cards for pretty cheap but it took like a month to get here from Japan.

Sorry, Necro...   I should've put some of this info out first instead of posting so hastily..  I'm interested in just about every genre, but really love shooters, adventure games, and rpgs..   I watched some vids, but in terms of taking the leap to buy, I was hoping to read some suggestions from folks so I could get a sense of their enthusiasm.  Never thought about comparing ports, but that sounds really interesting and might be something new for me to explore!

Thanks for the suggestions!

I'll be sure to post more info next time!

HI majors!  Yeah, Super Card is on its way as we speak!  Thanks for the suggestions!  You're right, I can get too ahead of myself...  I'm really really new to the PCE scene..

Just wondering if some of you could chime in on the benefits/awesome games that would come with purchasing an Arcade Pro Card for my cd rom2.  D

Benefits:

1. You will make your PCE capable of playing a small handful of kickass games.
2. The ladies will flock to you and try to have your babies.

Awesome Games:

1. Neo Ports
2. Sapphire

You forgot another benefit: still can't play Altered Beast :D

I would definitely recommend it.  I like comparing how ACD+SCD versions differ.  3X3 Eyes is at the top of the list on this front.

That complete list is missing at the very least Flash Hiders.

although if you can afford madou monogatari you should just invest in my game company instead

Mad stalker hype!!! It was the first game I played after getting an arcade card and had a blast all the way through. Great control scheme, animation, and theme. Also a good challenge until you figure out the sword mech's down+strong attack.

I think the arcade card is worth it for mad stalker, kabuki fighter, and sapphire alone.

Leave the neo geo ports where they belong

btw you can still get one for a decent price in japan. check lots of sites, I found mine cib for 40$.

Yeah, go ahead and add that to list.  I think I'm one of the very few who still enjoys that game.  It's the only reason I keep my 1.0 card around.

I haven't had a chance to fire up the Neo Geo CD version of Quest of Jongmaster, but I'm pretty sure that the PC Engine version has more content than either Neo Geo version.

IIRC there's a couple of extra sound effects that otherwise only took place in mirror matches?  The manual says something in Japanese about it but my (poor) ability to translate simply says that it takes advantage of it if it's there but isn't required.  There's no Arcade CD logo on the front too.  This makes me wonder if any other games that didn't brag about it on the front cover actually take advantage of the extra space on the Arcade Card

There was an old thread where tomeithous (Bonknuts) mentions stuff like this (games claiming to be SCD, but are just CD, ACD compatible games in hiding).

Terraforming? And one of the Valis games? are billed as SCD, but are only CD (which makes them all the more impressive).

Hmmmm, not sure about Valis....

these as well although I didn't really notice that much improvement on the cut scenes...

Just get it if you see a decent one for a song.

I just want to add that I am certain that Emerald Dragon also support Arcade Card.  I noticed that between the two system cards.  Emerald makes a lot less whirling sound when loading with the Arcade Card.

If the Arcade Card is eliminating certain loads in Emerald Dragon, then the loading it does do should take a lot longer.

I was wondering that... I have popful mail with a super system card, and was wondering what the difference is.

well for a start during the opening intro there is about roughly 7 seconds shaved off during a pause between one scene loading to the next

Here's my logic on this: you already invested into a PCECD unit.. what's a few extra bucks for an arcade card?
