Title: MB-128 baterries and longevity?

Ok, so my save memory is getting full on my system and I figure it's time to start using my Memory Base 128 as some of the saves I do not want to lose.

I plan on using some Energizer rechargeable batteries. 1400mah and 1.2v each.

Can anyone that uses a memory base tell me roughly how long batteries last in it? And when you go to swap them out do the save files stay intact or do you lose everything? <- This would kind of defeat the purpose of the MB-128 for me.

I plan on using Emerald Dragon to save games back and forth on the unit. Even if a game has native support I will just use the system memory and transfer it with Emerald Dragon so only one piece of software manages it. I don't want to corrupt anything by mistake by using a different game.

IF you use rechargeables, I'd go for Eneloops. They have a way lower self discharge rate than regular NiMHs, that's why I use them in RC car transmitters, IR remotes, game controllers, etc.

I have had these energizer ones for a couple years now and I was planning on buying more as I use them in my Logitech F710 game controller and various other things in the house. But I only have 8 and using them in the MB128 and needing to replace them once they died I would need more.

Those Eloops look interesting. After doing a bit of research does it really matter what charger I use on them? Something like this looks good to me for having a lot of batteries to recharge at once.

I never really heard of EBL but that charger looks like it would fit my needs and I could move all my smoke alarms and such over to recharge able batteries as well.

The files last long enough for you to swap the batteries. There's a detailed thread about it around here somewhere.

I did not look at that charger. Any NiMH fast charger with delta peak will do for Eneloops. Please don't use recheargeables with life saving devices like smoke alarms, unless stated in the device instructions.

I can't comment on the MB128 battery longevity.  I do use Eneloops in my handhelds like the Turbo Express and they work well. 

Looks like Amazon has a deal of the day today for an Eneloop set: 10AA, 4AAA and a charger for $26.  Not sure how good the included charger is but the bundled kit seems like a decent price...

Edit: seems to be sold out for that price from Amazon now.

Now that's a fair price for the whole bundle. The charger is on the slow side with a charging current of 0.3 Amps for AA-batteries (mine is capable of 2 Amps for up to two AA cells, or 1 Amp for 3-4 AA cells), but at least it has proper delta cutoff circuitry instead of simple low-end trickle charging technology.

I once tried ready-to-use rechargeables by EneReady, because they were so much cheaper than Eneloop. Turned out they were also so much more junk, two cells (from a total of four) went bad within half a year. I got what I paid for.
